He's a short shooting guard. A homeless mans Donovan Mitchell. Trier is the same player with less over dribbling. I think he's worth a flyer... I'm not gonna give up anything good for him though. At the same time, Maybe I would if it meant getting back someone else if value to us. It's all about the team

One thing to remember is that his first 2 offseason in the league he was injured so couldn't work on his game, maybe there's some untapped potential in there, but you'd need an elite player development system in place- we don't have anything like one!

so nice highlight video - but did I miss it, or were all of his buckets basically in the paint or ft line?

I would swap DSjr for him because I don't see him working out.

But I like Dotson better if were looking to develop a SG, especially if it's a backup because that is where you have RJ slotted in.

No, you didn't miss anything. He's not a good shooter. I checked out Hornets Reddit and someone mentioned he was a rhythm shooter. But in order to be given the freedom to launch, you need to hit shots. We have a couple of guards in the G-League I'd like to try out. Plus, I don't think this guy is better than Trier. I won't give this guy a hard pass, but there are probably other undervalued
guys out there who fit better.

Yes! Love this idea - Another worthless guard who cant shoot, doesn't pass and wont play defense. Keep 'em coming, because this time it will be different. LOL

Chandler wrote:i keep Frank. Worst case is Frank is our flavor of Marcus Smart. Each play winning basketball but are extremely frustrating with their non-existent or inconsistent offense. I also hold out hope that Frank will find some offense

DSJ is another story. I would trade him almost as a favor to him to get him out of NY glare and back home; he is struggling mentally and mightily

Also i have to imagine things are only going to get worse because this offseason we have to be thinking of drafting or otherwise getting a pg who can actually shoot: we have 3 pg and not one can be counted on to hit an open shot -- can't make this up

Having said all of that, Monk?

this is a great compare. Somehow "believing in Frank" is being spun as "Frank is a future star."
I think Frank has elite potential as a passer. He makes his own passing lanes with those arms.
Obviously he's got elite defensive chops.
I dont think his shot or offense is broken. A few more years of maturity and muscle and I expect him to at least be able to exploit when defenses dont respect him.

I also dont see bench/6th guy like a Marcus Smart caliber player as a whiff here, Donovan Mitchell aside. Frank has to play better basketball, but I do think he can and will and at least have another year to find out

The difference between smart and frank is smart is away better offensive player then frank he can least average 10 points game for season. Frank offensive game can't be counted on, we all thought including me after first dallas game of the season that would be turning point of frank career but it was fools gold and turn back to old frank. Franks aggressiveness doesn't look natural it like he forcing shots like last night the dude was jacking up shots it something he not comfortable doing. I firmly believe frank wants to focus on defense more then offensive game but his defense has been sliping of late.

being up here in boston i disagree. Smart is dumb enough to shoot you out of a game all by himself. He is however a very effective interior passer and on (rare) occasion hot

But smart can go on stretches of games where can score over 10 plus points i haven't seen frank do that go on a stretch scoring 10 plus points 4 or 5 games in row. If frank stays how money do the knicks think about giving him in 2 years from know i know marcus smart got 4 year 48 million dollar contract from the celtics last year. I don't think knicks want to give frank over 50 million dollars that is a over payment for his stats.

Smart is the defensive spirit for that team. Frank isn't there yet, but hopefully with some good leadership from the coaches and players he can take a more prominent role in that regard

Fizz had Frank second guessing everything and forgetting that his biggest contributions are on D

Frank has to improve. My main beef is there are a lot of posts here who shit on Frank because he's not an allstar. WHo shit on KK because he's not KD etc.

take a look around the league (e.g., Giannis and buck) many of the best teams are full of contributors but only a small number of stars (maybe 1 -- see Bucks, Raptors, Heat, maybe Celts)

of course we want stars but that doesn't mean our non-stars aren't key contributors

Smart is playing on a winning team in a winning environment and his role has been establish.

Frank is playing on a loosing team in a dysfunctional environment with no clear cut role.

Perhaps if we had a kemba or a Kyrie his offense wouldn't be needed as much, if we had bigs that could create their own shot or better perimeter players, then I can see where frank would be good.

He plays losing basketball on this team because the other pieces don't compliment his style of play

He does not play losing basketball. Fairly consistently, the team plays better with him on the floor even if his stats suck

He's a keeper and a contributor along with a good attitude. We need more talent.

Frank is not excluded form the losing culture, none of the players are

And how can you say we need more talent in the same sentence as franks a keeper.

That would suggest he's one of the best players in the league at this position.

I would think (as a knick fan)you would be more interested in upgrading the position right?

Nalod @ 1/24/2020 4:01 PM
Good takes. Fans can argue all day long but we can't solve this knick puzzle. Despite my geographical proximity I Don't watch Hornets basketball.
Utah would not trade DSjr, Frank and Monk for Mitchell! What a draft!
Trier a victim of bad development or is he to blame for his lack of progress? Knicks bought him in, gave him the opportunity to demonstrate his NBA offense ability, gave him a 2 year deal. What is it about the coaching that failed him? Or did he fail to respond?
Mudiay changed his trajectory here. Why didn't we keep him? Good questions. He is on a better team so he naturally will look better. I think we did a very good job with him. He took it even one step further to earn his opportunity on UTAH.
Mitch? A second rounder and raw. A season and a Half he is really developing fantastic given his rawness.
Dennis? Awful. Seems everything is going wrong. He'll have another chance.
Frank Vs Marcus Smart. Smart come in the league at age 20. At 18 he'd likely have looked worse than Frank.

Defending Frank:
Frank was not really physically ready for the NBA. Can't blame him for coming and drafted top ten. Did knicks know they'd have to be patient with him?
Fans don't understand patience. Its never been asked of NY. I suppose we can blame Knicks for drafting him but he was a compelling prospect. At age 21, he still is.
That mean we give up on him? Some fans think so.

If we suck in the present tense of development then its now season three with Mills and the Princeton Cabal. If frustrated take on another 20 years if you must.

I always thought he would be perfect under these broadway lights. Hes been like this in college. Usually have his sports of great games amd average games. Reminds me of john starks. Plays bigger than his size and at times, he can take over games.

One thing to question the moves Perry made as Knicks GM. Pinning Perry for what happened on teams where he was an AGM is a big reach.

Nothing to do with the fact that if you paid an ounce of attention to the team building Perry has done in his career both here and on other franchises that his TYPE of player and his way of building a team are not conducive to winning basketball.
