That could be a complete economic disaster, especially considering that the government can’t even deliver a stimulus package.
Would be worse if we start getting huge numbers
NY seems to be doing pretty well, even dealing with these “hot spots.”
A total quarantine is impossible anyway. People living check to check and tip to tip will once again be flooding unemployment. Remember how bad it was last time? That was NOT a total lockdown. Not even close. It took some people months to get their first unemployment payments.
And even if that wasn’t an issue, you will still have trouble containing the virus bc emergency workers will still have to work and they can’t quarantine and they, in some way or another, expose themselves to the public. Then when you open up in 2 weeks and the flood gates open and things end up getting worse because social distancing will be impossible at super-markets... and please don’t tell me how getting your food delivered is so much safer than you going yourself because it isn’t.
The only goal is to prevent healthcare system from collapsing as it is going on in Russia, Iran, Brazil, and other countries.
So it is herd immunity long term as it is the case with flu.
Treatments and vaccine will help but it takes years to make somehow effective.
Mostly it comes to personal responsibility.
And yes - rich will be better off as usual. That's why everybody want to be rich. :)

Yeah part echo chamber, part ignorance with a huge helping of stupidity
Stay safe out there people. I know its been a very hard and long road but now is not the time to make mistakes. You never know if you will be one of the people who can't fight this thing off so stay vigilant and stay safe.
We just had a local college here in Western NY go full virtual. 2 kids went to bar and within weeks dorms were overrun with COVID. School sent kids home or put them up in hotels. Stay safe and be smart

VIRUS TOLL: Worst-hit Covid patients’ brains age up to 10 YEARS and suffer fall in IQ, UK study finds
Even people who showed only mild symptoms scored lower on the tests than those who had not got Covid. The research was led by Dr Adam Hampshire and was carried out by researchers from Imperial College, the University of Cambridge, King's College London and the University of Chicago.
Cognitive results of 84,285 participants were analysed from a study called the Great British Intelligence Test, the Daily Mirror reported.
Those worst affected suffered an 8.5 drop to their IQ.
Covid sufferers who had to be placed in intensive care suffered more severe mental issues, the study found.
Those who had coronavirus had relatively low scores in tests on logic, the meaning of words, spatial orientation, attention and processing emotions - even those who had fully recovered from the virus.
The report found there were "chronic cognitive consequences of having Covid-19
I live in an area flooded by Trump supporters so a lower IQ for most people in my area won’t be very noticeable.

Maybe this means Covid has been with us a lot longer than was originally thought

1-2 strategic 14 day lockdowns would be smart. But if not we can each make good decisions to socially distance. Wear masks wash our hands. We had a program up here in Ct where people bought up hotel rooms for the next 4 months for homeless folks—I donated 3 but that matters not. Anything we can do to help each other— we have to do it. It’s not about who’s president et al it’s about human decency.

It really does matter whose president- no point in doing what you can when the president is out there ridiculing people for wearing masks and claiming they don't work and (wink wink) telling them not to wear one, while encouraging people to have big gatherings.

You correct but the nations leader should set the tone and bring the country together to achieve a common goal. That has made this country great in times of adversity. Trump First reaction is that pandemic is ruining his presidency and to “unfair”. You heard it from him time and time again. Then its about the stock market. Not everyone had stocks. Over and over the transactional measurements of “Ratings”, and boisterous ramblings to “Sell” us on what a great job he is doing.
He failed at very core of his first mission which is to install confidence and keep people safe. I do believe he could have survived this had he simply not be a broken human. Fact is this lack of decency is what propelled him to rise to power. He told America what they wanted to hear.

Literally all Trump had to do to both get a hold of the pandemic and ensure re-election was to hand over responsibility to Fauci or the like. 1 decision and then stay out of the way but his baser instincts of grift kicked in; he wanted both the glory and any $$$ he could grab and it failed spectacularly.

I do believe this will be what happens in coordinated areas of the nation, with the substance behind it. Legislation is going to pass post-January and I'd guess states will get money that is tied to mask mandating of some sort.
What some of the states are doing right now is silly, negligent, and criminal.
What's happening in Belgium is fucking scary and parts of the USA are on that precipice
We are not learning
Almost as if we let it happen to suppress voting here in the US.
