It would have to be a shorted season (like the lock out) at some point.
If your entertaining starting the 2020/21 season in dec, you mind as well cut the season by 15 to 20 games

No. That's not what is being put out. The change might include a tournament of some sort. The issue is starting the season as they did the end of October puts them smack in the NFL season and the ratings don't pick up until Christmas. What happens in July-August in pro sports? Nothing. NBA would own it.
