Knicks · How Would You Feel About Russell Westbrook As A New York Knick? (page 10)

What if we got Robert Covington aswell but basically gave up no picks?

Westbrook and RJ would be a bad fit next to each other- gives you a backcourt that can't shoot, and takes the ball out of RJ's hands (and you thought Randle was bad in that regard!)

So far Rose looks patient. Isiah would have traded all of our draft picks for Kemba Walker by now

OKC talking to Phoenix reeks of them trying to get Rose to offer RJ or Mitch

Ha
Phil and Mills were 10X worst than Isiah...

They had Cap space and High picks and still produce the worst record in the history of the franchise.

Thats like having a fridge full of good food and dying from starvation

Hahn was on a podcast with Strick.land that was interesting. the details that Macri describes is basically Hahn's phish.https://www.thestrick.land/podcasts/zsj5...

I actually think Hahn makes good argument for trading for Westbrook. However, Randle and a pick for Westbrook, IMO, is a bad deal because it relies so heavily on soaking up every iota of cap space.

I prefer Randle, Ellington, Payton, DSJ (instead of a pick - Knox even), or something along those lines. That way Houston isn't saddled with long obligations but the Knicks clear out the roster a bit.

smackeddog @ 11/13/2020 3:08 PM
Urrrgh, I bet this happens

It’s like we saw the ‘worst 5 contracts in the NBA’ and picked one of them. Only ones worse are Tobias Harris and John Wall’s

You don't need league sources to see the writing on the wall.

I do hope we are trading out as much as we are "absorbing" so that there's room to fill out the team.

Well, we'd be absorbing Westbrook's salary (and his awesomeness), and all of the players we signed last year with 2nd year options (Payton, Ellington, Portis, Bullock) are actually extremely good value role players, albeit on teams much farther along on the contender ladder.

I said this about 20 pages back on this thread - I think Westbrook is a franchise game changer and will get us back to the playoffs... and hey, that's progress. With Thibs in place, he's basically Derrick Rose on steroids - 2 way player, proven better all around player. (Westbrook was actually the #4 pick in the draft Rose was picked #1) I'm certain Thibs would find a way to be successful with him.

The only issue with these older veterans (he turned 32 yesterday) is the limited shelf-life. You can expect some level of decline over time, but hey, he's been pretty durable over his career, all things considered. But putting him on a roster with a bunch of young players will hopefully allow those young guys to pick up the slack a year or two down the road, and we can gracefully reduce Westbrook's role.

The way I've been looking at it is we'll still have 1 more year to add another near max contract before we need to deal with Mitchell Robinson's next contract.

jskinny35 @ 11/13/2020 7:12 PM
Totally against Westbrick at this stage in his career. He checks all the boxes that we had all hoped was left in the past (eg overpaid, injury history, over 30, etc). I would rather agree to a bad trade with OKC and get Paul - at least he passes and can shoot somewhat.

As a long-time Knick fan, will have to take deep breaths and reframe this deal so I can walk with some sense of pride as the cycle of violence begins once again...

Could this be Leon Rose's end game? Will a line up of

Mitch,RJ,Hayward,Westbrook

Be a contender for multiple years to come? Will this line up be a team knicks fans can cheer wildly for? What ever moves the front office makes, personally if it makes the Knicks relevant again for the next decade Il be a happy knick fan. Im starting to come to grips with the idea of loosing our young core in this rebuild as long as it brings the knicks back to relevancy for the next 10 years.

Mitch, draft pick?, Hayward, RJ, Westbrook.

Do they Knicks have the juice to even pull that off? It'd be fun

I think the idea is the knicks will piggy back on the Celtic-Nola trade as a facilitator of some sorts and come out with Hayward.not so sure if it's possible but they are looking at it i guess

Would you feel comfortable starting Gordon at the 4, while retaining Taj? A pick like Isaiah Washington at #27 would make more sense in that scenario.

If we get lucky Toppin drops to 8 and we still have the 8th pick the line up could be:

Mitch, Toppin, Hayward, RJ and Westbrook

Because of his age, Toppin is said to be ready to contribute in day 1. Im intrigued by this line up, 2 all-stars and 3 potential future all-stars in the starting line up. If we can do well in the next 2 drafts and select a very good SF and PG to eventually take over Hayward and Westbrook after 5 years we will be in a very good position for the next 10 years or so.

Yeah, that could happen, but it seems unlikely...at least now. The team will probably need to be creative at the four with small, hustle ball lineups.

The team might finally being smart about it, reports say they are interested in Westbrook only on the cheap aka if its a salary dump. Im totally on board with this, that will give the knicks assets to swing a trade for another star like Hayward. It seems like a long shot as of now but the next 3 weeks will be fast and wild, lets see how the knicks roster shakes up when the dust settles. But a Toppin, Hayward and Westbrook in the line up come December 22 excites me!

Go look up the 23 win season. LOok at the cap. Look how we were 40% more then the Trailblazers 2nd that year in salary. Then consider we did not have our pick that year in the lottery. Then take your head out of your ass and think how bad that is. While 23 wins are better then 17, and its not your money so you don’t care, but the picks were.
Then consider he was found guilty of sexual harassment. Don’t forget he fires Chaney, Fratello tells him to fuck off, then hires Wilkins to quell his embarrassment.
Wait he hires Larry brown, and pays him 23 million to coach one season with epic embarrassment by banishing him to do pressers on the side of the road.

10 times worse? Not quite.

I hope it is true. Westbrook is an incredible talent, but I would not want the Knicks to acquire him except in a true firesale. We are providing a service to Houston by taking his salary off their books, so that should be value enough for the Rockets. I.e. no valuable assets in return: no picks, no promising young players. Randle should be it, maybe we also toss in DSJr to give the guy a chance for a fresh start in a small city, where he'd feel more comfortable. But I really doubt Houston would do such a deal. Didn't they mortgage their house and their barn for Westbrook?
