I don’t see how this guy is projected as a second round pick to be honest. He came into Kentucky as a 5 star PG and was relegated to an off ball role like many other underutilized guards at Kentucky. He was SEC player of the year and shot 43% from 3pt on over 2 makes a game and 92% from the free throw line. He’s 6’3 with a 6’10 wingspan giving him versatility to guard both guard positions. He’s really a good modern day PG prospect with the length and shooting. He lacks athleticism but doesn’t have any other glaring weaknesses. I’m sure Payne has a good handle on him coaching him for 2 years but Cal has been very vocal about how he was one of his favorite players and compared him to Jamal Murray. Knicks have interviewed with him multiple times and given his shooting and Kentucky connection he seems like a logical bet to end up being drafted here.
Knicks could do worse.
My theory about this draft class has been not to waste the #8 pick on a [misguided, IMO] 'need' PG candidate.
There are many PGs who are interesting in their own ways all the way into the second round. If Quickley is garnering that volume of interest though, use #27 and roll the dice.
A new factor is entering the draft discussion though and that is that the G-League may be toast until a vaccine is found.
The scramble for NBA positions will be vicious. NBA rosters may have to expand to >17 (prudently) just to ensure some of the kids don't get shut out OR maybe the kids play first half of the season (by everyone) and the older players kick in come tournament time.
It's going to get weird before it gets normal.

But FWIW i did watch one Kentucky game this year and i kept thinking this guy knew what he was doing out there playing smart and contributing in the right way

Kira seems to have legit legs as the 8th pick. Seems like Detroit at 7 and Phoenix at 10 both like him too, so he range is probably now 7-14. Knicks have to like him because he can push the pace, play off the ball with his above average catch and shoot ability, particularly with the corner threes. He was getting hot later in the year, which would imply his numbers would have been even better last year if the season wasn't cancelled. If we go with him at 8, then grab a shooter at 27 (Bane, Joe, or Quickley) and go with an athletic big at 38 (Bey, Reed, or Tillman.) We would address 3 big needs with 3 picks. A quality PG prospect who can play on or off the ball, a SG that can really shoot, and a versatile athletic big. None of these players will likely be stars, but we can build up with elite role players and take big steps in the rebuilding process.

If we had Lewis at PG, RJ at SF, Bey at PF, and Mitch at C, i'd love to see us grab an elite shooter like Joe Harris (UFA), Malik Beasley (RFA) or Buddy Hield (via trade) and that would be a very fun team to watch.

Just watched a highlight reel of Quickley. I like that he can play halfcourt BBall. Been a weakness of this team for a while. His release looks a little low for NBA defenses at times. A little more arc would fix that.
Didnt see anything as far as rebounding. Maybe that has something to do with the 2nd round projections.
I think 27 is way too high to pick Quickley. But, if this rumor is true, I'm pretty sure they're targeting him in the second-round.

Good shooter and good on-ball defender, but he has a lot improving to do before he can become a primary ball handler. Plus, his frame kinda limits who he can defend at two-spot. There will be prospects with higher upsides at #27. "Way too high" is probably an overstatement on my part, but I think it's still a bit of reach. Now, that pick wouldn't bother me as much if the Knicks got another second-rounder. That would give them more leeway in terms of gambling on a pick or two.
