Vassell is the obvious and consensus choice for a reason. Supposedly he worked out for the Knicks last week. Both Vassell and the Knicks said the workout went well and he wants to come here
Nesmith I like too. His shooting was off the charts last year hopefully it’s not an aberration
I must say, this is one of the most exciting drafts that I can remember. There are so many options at #8 that would make me very happy. In no particular order:
- Vassel
- Nesmith
- Killian Hayes
- Deni Avdija (yes, the hype has finally gotten to me, so I am flip flopping)
- Tyrese Halliburton
- Obi Toppin
- Anthony Edwards (yeah, right!)
I would also be somewhat intrigued by Onyeka Okongwu.
I am not too hot on point guards like Maxey, Lewis or Cole Anthony, because I want the Knicks to have a size advantage over other teams at the PG spot. And I definitely want no part of Lamelo Ball or Wiseman. I am not thrilled about Okoro, he is a great young man and may have a very productive NBA career. But I have serious doubts about his scoring ability, and his strong points - physical strength and defense at the shooting guard spot - are not what our team most desperately needs. We do not need a younger Justise Winslow. I think having both RJ and Okoro on the same team is superfluous, and RJ will evolve into a better and more multidimensional player than Isaac.

I have Maxey over Kira. I'm all over the place with Terry. I really wish we had an NCAA tournament. As for Okoro, he has the requisite physical package and athleticism to be an impact player. His outside shot needs work, but I'm not convinced it's as broken as some would have you believe. I think he just needs reps and improved focus. The Knicks aren't at a point where they can draft completely off of fit. I like RJ a lot, but I'm still not convinced he can be the best player on a contending team. The team needs talent and athleticism.

Why would we draft for fit? You have mentioned several times before that we do not have much on this team. So why would we use a draft pick to try to fit pieces that are yet to be proven or may not be here long term. The only teams that draft for fit are established contenders that are looking for pieces to fit their solid base. Ie. Golden State, Lakers etc. We need talent. No matter what position it is. Nor the fit they may have with our current roster.

If trading down can we get another 1st for next year? They are valued higher but if a team needs a “Now” move or we are taking back salary I want to stack up and take a player to stash next year.

Giannis likely signs his extension but understanding he will ask out if they can’t get over the hump. Mil will need value. They won’t get the best player in return but thats not our problem.

Okoro reminds me of last year's defensive star, Nassar Little. Great athletic talent, but under developed offense. Not what we need from the 8th pick.

I think if you have two guys who are rated similarly, I think you go with fit. If you have one guy who is clearly rated over the guys who is the better fit, you go with the guy who is more talented. It goes back to the Jordan/Sam Bowie debate the Trailblazers probably had. They should've picked Jordan, even though they already had Drexler. In the Knicks case, they have no one of Drexler's caliber on the roster. They need players. Best case scenario, the pick pops and you can trade that player for pieces that do pick.

Until proven otherwise, I think that we have to believe that the Knicks have assembled the best development and drafting team that we've ever had. Hopefully this new group can turn our pig's ears into silk purses and also draft the best players at 50 paces. Unless something drastic happens, they're all we've got.
With the 8th pick, barring trades and availability, i'm picking Vassell, the projected best 3 and D player in this draft.

Isaac is way better offensively and defensively than Little was at UNC. Justise Winslow is probably a better floor for Okoro. If Okoro's shot even gets to Winslow's level tho, about mid 30's on low volume, he becomes a higher tier starter.

I’m concerned the warriors take Vassell at 2. They like him and know how good he is and don’t care what people will say

Agree completely. And there’s absolutely no reason to trade down. Just take BPA at 8 which is going to be a 3 and D
