Payton played well.
Besides Obi, I was most impressed with Knox. He looked more fluid
NYKBocker wrote:Yeah. I like it. Frank, DSjr, Knox, Obi, Mitch lineup was good. RJ settled down. Noel is a good center. Randle and Payton needs to go.
Watching Noel is giving me perspective on what we have with Mitch. He might just be middle of the road center.

I still believe we needed a 3 point marksman—- time will tell
The lack of shooting is alarming. How did we amass all of these lottery players without getting one guy that can hit a 3 off a screen.
Short training camp for full team and Thibs for the most part emphasized all defense. Don’t think the offensive concepts were ironed out and it showed. The defense which was emphasized def showed. And I can see improvement in skill level among the young players individually.

Hayes looks awful other then size he looks like a second round pick who belongs in the g league. Elf and smith made him look bad .
Obi is the man I would like to see him start over randle. But I agree we need more shooters, I was surprised IQ rode the bench all game.
Allanfan20 wrote:ramtour420 wrote:Allanfan20 wrote:Randle = $hit.
He will muscle his way to a 20/10 line tho
He will absolutely have that line and everyone will call him our best player. Meanwhile, everytime he touches the ball, he looks like he’ll turn it over.
We gotta ship Randle's azz outta here pronto, before he starts teaching Obi all them master spinster moves of his, and ruins such a promising kid for us.
Don’t draw any conclusions on first preseason game especially after just one week of team practice.
I caught the fist half. Might finish later.
Had to laugh at franks first shot, a 3pt and it was good.
Obi’s speed in the open court was exciting. teams don’t do much forward scouting for a first preseason game. There is none to see.
Blake Griff looked pretty good. Excellent passer!
What does Noel starting over Mitch say to “a young player”? Grow up!!!! It will take care of itself in due time!
I’m thinking some players will sit and other play next game. Nothing to read into yet.
RJ and others had not played in an arena in 9 months. MIght be them getting their bearings in the big house!
Sloppy turnover fist game. Even with a full camp and preseason the first 10 games can be ugly.
Like last year Payton is there to have his job taken from him.
When you get down on Frank missing a shot take notice of him helping on defense reaching over and then getting back on his man. Thats a team defensive type thing players with reach and a motor can do. On ball pressure even by off ball defender creates deflections. Its not a stat. Its an eyeball thing.
Griff went right thru Obi like one of those bad videos of him on defense. He’ll have to work on his footwork. Looks like he is not ready. If this was an issue in college (I can’t say other than video compilation of all his bad stops)then the speed and power at this level will be worse. Don’t look for one season to be fixed.
But, this was the national player of the year and he carried his team enough to be recognized for it. If he can blow by defenders, he can learn to defend. Just not gonna happen right away.
Dennis still looks like he is thinking too much. I had said this before, he had his ACL torn his senior year in high school and really did not play. He has has that extra tendon so the 9th month miracle recovery bought him back. Rusty as hell he did not find his stride until the last 10 college games. My Son is an NC State grad and this our adapted team. Then on to Dallas were he was inconsistent but thats OK for a rook with few games under his belt at a high level. Then they mindphuck of Luka and the trade. He does not have the physical dominance or has not demonstrated it yet. I compare him to Baron Davis as they are both built strong. Baron was a rock star having a good time. Dennis does not have the joy of playing. IN high school he was projected to have that Steve Francis freaky ability. A bit of Derek rose, Baron Davis type bulldog. Rose has the length. Dennis simply just might not have “it” despite early flashes. He no doubt gets opportunity because of this potential but at 23 we have to see it. GM’s will have to see it if they are to assign a value on a contract. I’m not even sure he is an NBA player. HE needs to string 20 or so games together that defines who and what he is.
Frank is an NBA player. His defense is top notch. He has one elite skill. The question is the rest of his game. If not a knick he’d be a great back up on a contending team and perhaps in five years when he is still just 27 he might be then fully developed and ready for prime time. If not a knick he can look forward perhaps to a better career elsewhere.
^ Frank looked good last night. His on ball and help defense is elite. If someone can't see this then they are blind or Frank did something personal to them.
I totally agree with your assessment from last night.

Think Burks, Rivers and Bullock are good three point shooters? Quickly is allegedly one as well. Still think we will trade for another shooter.

Thibs is the 4th coach that does not see Frank as a starting PG? Why? Even worse, if the first game is any indication, he does not think he is even a PG. Why?

All the reports about his conditioning seem to be true. He looks faster and had added some muscle.

Because our current starting lineup has Elfrid Payton (20% 3-point shooter and Randle (29% 3-point shooter) and DSJ in the rotation (29% 3-point shooter

When Frank was in the game in the 3rd quarter that was when the Knicks started to pull away.
I'm so sick of Elf. Frank is a Steph Curry from behind the 3-pt line compared to Payton.

Rivers and Bullock are average. Quckley was 43% from 3 in college and is probably the best 3 pt shooter on the roster.

And he's the third coach in a row who thinks Randle should start at PF - even ahead of Obi this time.
Give it time, he will eventually realize Frank is the best +/- player on the roster besides Mitch
Obi looked a lot quicker, longer and thinner than I was expecting- has he lost weight since college?
Obi is very quick off the floor -- sure there are other comps but i recall antonio mcdyess (in college and denver) being off the floor and way in the air while opponents were just launching
AND the biggest thing about Obi is he didn't suck ass on defense.
fingers crossed

Thought he looked good as well given his role. Looked faster and more comfortable than we have seen him. Missed the 3 he made but the pull up jumper off the dribble was picture perfect form with full confidence of a ton of reps behind it. The defense doesn’t need to be talked about. But on offense there were times when he was calling the ball carrier to swing the ball to Knox as he was gonna set a pick for him to break free. Dude is a pure team player to the core. Had 7 pts on 2 attempts with 3 ft attempts before missing 3 put backs to push him to 2-5. He even tried to organize a play at the top of the key calling his own number but ended up tripping and falling down. He also split the defense between 3 defenders and almost had a beautiful ally oop to Mitch but miss timed the pass. But how he split the defense is something we’ve never seen Frank do to get inside he teeth of a defense. Still has work to do but this is a game worth him building on. He did fall on the ground like 2 times though along with miss timed passes. Gotta clean that up.

Saw all those. Dude just know how to run an offense

Randle was our best player last year. So yeah makes sense to start him. As much as I hate him handling the ball still feel that is the right move. Obi may be, but one game vs Detroit does not erase Randle's proven production. As for Frank, I hope so. Just getting to the point the whole "Just wat and see" rant is getting old. Frank and Dennis have to step up and become above average PG's that have more impact or else its time to try someone else at PG. Frank can always be a solid bench role player.

The problem with making Randle your featured player on offense is he's a losing player. He can't shoot 3's, dribbles way too much and you even saw last night the spin move turnover stuff everyone keeps complaining about.
That doesn't mean Randle can't have a role on a competitive team but more likely that role should be coming off the bench as an energy guy. I don't hate Randle like a lot of knicks fans do. He fills a stat box, is a good low post scorer and is a decent mid-range shooter but Obi needs to start I think we have something special in him and if he gets starter minutes this year he could be in competition for ROY
