He’s a low-maintenance player who seems to defend adequately, moves the ball quick, and makes open threes. He’s sort of like what I hope Afflalo would be here a few years ago. Burks feels like a player that actually compliments Barrett in the lineup, which are few and far between here. If Burks continues to bring it and eventually Toppin finds his way into the lineup in place of Randle or Noel, there’s probably enough shooting in the lineup even with Payton starting, and definitely enough offense.
First chance to see him as a Knick. If we can get more dribble penetration from the point. Burks could be an X factor offensively. We really need his 3pters.
Yea afflalo's head got big when he got here and stopped doing the things he doid well before.
Burks is a good 7th man off the bench for a contending team. Him and noel are low maintenance guys that rarely commit mistakes or won't hurt the flow of the game. I can see why thibs likes both of them over Robinson and knox
Burks looks like an order of magnitude more skilled than Ellington/Bullock, Dotson. Brings much more to the table at this point. (You might say Dot's upside might be a Burks-type player)

Dot never had Burks upside since he had no real playmaking skill. Burks is a quality starting nba wing who fits the modern game.
Burks has produced pretty well throughout his career. His main issue has been staying healthy
Well, let's not overreact to one pre-season game. Bullock and Ellington had their moments too.
Burks is already one of my favorites...The ball doesn't stick; he will either shoot or pass on the catch. He's in constant motion and has a nice touch on his shot. He's the type of player that can fit any roster. Hope we keep him past this season.

But he's a much better player than both of them. He's proven it in his career.
I think he would be a really good candidate to build up and then trade to a contender for a young player buried on the bench.
Like Romeo Langford on the Celtics or RJ Hampton on Denver. They have talent but are buried so deep on their rosters a contributor like Burks or Rivers has more value

Maybe but at some point we have to keep players that fit. Burks is the one supporting cast piece who feels like a fit. The reality is only Barrett and Toppin are players we know the front office is committed to. I really want to believe they will come around on Mitch too. Quickley is a potentially good complimentary player, as is Rivers. But Burks is really the only sure thing in terms of a player who can be plugged in without issue around this core group and be an impact player. Eventually we have to keep some of these players instead of just ship them out and rinse and repeat.

You have a valid point, but I worry we aren’t even sure these are the youth who will be the core. Look at Philly they had MCW and Noel and had to keep failing to get to Simmons and Embiid. Burks plays well around what we have, but I am not sure what we have is worth building around.
If you trade him for a young underutilized player, maybe they develop into a core piece instead.

Why would you give up a quality player for a young player who's trash.
Is your goal to stock pile below avg young players. We haven't done jack with our own young players

Its not his goal. He is having a discussion with adults. Its an opinion.
This is where someone asks why have we not done jack with our own young players........

Thank you!
Also every year some players become better. In theory the whole purpose of this year is to get the youth better. It’s been about a week of training camp and two preseason games. Maybe this year we do see some development. I mean say what you will at least the kids were playing better defense out there. It takes time but you got to add to it.
Also Burks is literally a 1 year contract. He’s a FA next year and can leave regardless. Better to flip him to a young piece and try again.
Yes, he might actually be a better fit than say Buddy Heild. Alec is a pretty good defender. He shoots almost nearly as well and cost a mere fraction of that contact. I am on the Alec Burks train!!If , hypothetically, if RJ is a small forward, very hypothetically, then Alec is actually our best SG since...
Wait a second..why am I drawing blanks. Don't say Afflalo or whatever, he was cooked when he got here. Same with Francis, cooked. For a young team trying to find an identity with RJ as the main dog, would I rather have him than for example Jamal Crawford ? I think so! He doesn't need the ball to be effective which compliments RJ perfectly.
Legit question now I am not playing, who was our best SG prior to him that still had some threads in his tires?
JR Smith. Brrrrrrrrr.
Lol, how about who was the best SG before Alec Burks for an actual rebuild?

Burks should of got a 2 year deal for early bird rights

Seriously we have enough bad young players

Exactly. We have 3 young players (RJ, Obi, and Mitch ) who really have the opportunity to turn into something and I’d rather keep the players who actually fit around them and can help them progress. Burks and Quickley to me can do that.
In my opinion we have 5 keepers so far, guys to invest in:
Core: Barrett, Toppin, Robinson
Supporting cast: Burks and Quickley
So basically 5 out of 10 long-term rotation pieces I feel good about today.
Usually we talk into championship windows when we have a bunch of early 20-somethings and ~30 year olds (Burks is 29). How long will it take for the young guys to get their sh*t together and become a playoff team. With so many players still yet to prove themselves... it's hard to see Burks as a true keeper at this stage. And heck, he's only 2 pre-season games into his tenure with the team. We have yet to see the warts in his game.
For now... he'll do most things better than any SG on the roster (unless you count RJ as a SG).
IMHO the last legit SG the Knicks had on their roster was Tim Hardaway Jr.
He didn't really cut it as a 1st/2nd option offensively... but as a 3rd or 4th best player on a good team, THJr would be very solid.

Because he is trade bait, and players don’t give the Knicks team options unless you promise them 1 Million guaranteed.
He’s trade bait for a contender with too much depth and probably came here knowing that.
