Knicks · I'm not a long term buyer of RJ's high level potential/talent (page 20)

Definitely a disappointing season 1/4 of the way in. We all wanted his shot to become more consistent...but not like this! Looks to have regressed defensively, which is especially disappointing as we were touting him to be our primary wing defender after Bullock left. A little better with his layups, but not where he needs to be.

I'm still a believer in his potential (20ppg at 22 years old is not an achievement to balk at), but so far this year feeling better with either IQ or Cam on the floor. I expect him to pick it up as the year goes on...I've also been wrong before.

Thibs overusing RJ has caught up with him. RJ has been among league leaders in minutes last 2 years. He doesn’t look like he has his legs underneath him when he’s shooting from outside.

that is it man.. its Thibs.

RJ wasnt even top 20 in minutes per game last year. Wanker

I think its very possible RJ is not any better than Cam/Grimes/IQ and only gets the minutes because of the franchise commitment (#3) and contract.

At least Q has the excuse of injuries. I think, and I hope I'm wrong, I see more of a Evan Turner with a Jimmy Jackson ceiling. I don't see Jimmy Butler and, just like the Sixers did with Turner, the Knicks might be better off ending this experiment early.

If you rely on getting info here and your fed inaccuracies and parrot it, your amplifying bad info, and thus subject to looking stupid.
The internet machine actually works pretty good which can make you look smart, or at least not look bad.

Here is top 25 in minutes played last year:

https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/nba-mos...

Jules is 9th. Press the MPG tab and it recalibrates that rather than total minutes. he was 14th in total minutes.

Now, if you want to say over the last 5 games his minutes are high at 37min per, thats reasonable. His shooting woes started before but injuries to Grimes and Reddish made us a bit thin at wing.
If you really want to figure out why RJ is not shooting well you can guess like others. But at least be accurate.

You know, I didn't want to agree wit this OP. But damn, I don't understand how RJ can make mistake after mistake after mistake, and still doesn't take a back seat until he can settle into the game, just continues to be a turn-over black hole.

maybe the coach is enabling him. If Obi had five TOs, you'd never see him again

At least once a game, he got blinkers on

RJ can't get by any opponent on the offensive end and everyone blows by him on defense

New sport is "negative isolated videos".

Where did this fella go? He looks slow this year. I agree. Not ready to panic, but dayum!

I'd be totally down to see a Thibs and RJ roommates reality show! Have them go on double dates, amusement parks, pretty much have them do everything Thibs hates doing! LOL!

Martin, I've come around on this thread.
I agree. Especially now that we have our backcourt set, if there is room for improvement, it's replacing the SF. Replace RJ with a superstar SF and this team is a contender.

I don’t know how it’s possible but it seems like RJ is going backwards in some respects. I’m baffled by some of his play

Looking at the monthly splits.

His FT% is down every month. His 3pt % is up each month. His FG% is up too- but still low for what he should be.

He's had some decent games here shooting wise.

He's still young. I wonder what would have happened if we didn't extend him. And if I could trade him, I think I would, depending of course on what is coming back.

I would not trade grimes, mcbride, IQ, Mitch- but RJ, I would for the right package- which would simply be someone that can hit a decent % of shots.

EwingsGlass @ 12/17/2022 8:55 PM
Barrett is an odd case study. Going back to that game winner against Boston last year and the stop again Derozan, he looks like he can find the spark.

I’m curious if you remove Randle (and I don’t mean to make this a trade Randle thread) but if you gave Barrett some outside shooters at PG, SG and PF, leave Robinson at Center and just gave him a spread floor with Robinson on the block to work, would he put his head down and take every shot, or would he use Robinson and the stretched floor more?

The last 6 games show that between Randle and Barrett, Randle is the more dominant figure. Brunson definitely should be initiating, but Randle finds his shot more often. Neither is really getting to their spots as much as I would want for an elite player, and for that reason they are not elite.

But if you could move Randle and IQ for Lauri Markannen, for example, and run Brunson/Grimes/Barrett/Markannen/Robinson, doesn’t Barrett end up playing better? Doesn’t have to be Markannen but he is having a great year. Take Porzingis as an alternative. I am sure there are others.

Team is playing well, so I am trying not to criticize. Just thinking about how Barrett gets better.

RJ stats are questionable flawed from the 35 minute of playing-time he receive each game.
Plus Barret's defense on opposing guards are worst than DSJ !!!
yet he leads the NBA in minutes on the best defensive team in the league. Hows that? Do you even watch?

Barrett has been very good defensively this year.

He has his poor moments but Kemet is being way too harsh.

Harsh No .. Taking Barrett completely out of the guard offense/defense rotation by having Brunson/Grimes/Quickley/and McBride skills in the rotation the last 6 games equal a 6 game win streak.
Having Grimes & Quickley to defend the Indiana Pacers PG Haliburton most of the game, instead of Barrett makes me optimistic on a 7 game win streak !!!
