RJ stats are questionable flawed from the 35 minute of playing-time he receive each game.
Plus Barret's defense on opposing guards are worst than DSJ !!!
yet he leads the NBA in minutes on the best defensive team in the league. Hows that? Do you even watch?

Barrett has been very good defensively this year.

He has his poor moments but Kemet is being way too harsh.

Harsh No .. Taking Barrett completely out of the guard offense/defense rotation by having Brunson/Grimes/Quickley/and McBride skills in the rotation the last 6 games equal a 6 game win streak.
Having Grimes & Quickley to defend the Indiana Pacers PG Haliburton most of the game, instead of Barrett makes me optimistic on a 7 game win streak !!!

Can you try to make sense?

I laughed at the RJ infographic Martin posted.

RJ has played all-star/max extension level during this winning streak. His numbers have been quite good since December - strong ORating and DRating metrics as well as eFG.

It’s just that time of year. He’s back over 30% from 3 for the season. That’s a big achievement!

martin @ 12/18/2022 10:36 PM
This Indiana game should be a blueprint type game for RJ. Get to rim and use strength and body to score. Get to the line multiple times.

Plus make a 3pt shot or 2.

gradyandrew @ 12/19/2022 3:17 AM
RJs December numbers look real good. 40% from 3 and 50% from 2.

Those numbers look off. Don't think he shot that well from 3.

Makes since to me. I’ll admit, when I first read kemet post it didn’t make since, but I got it.

With the new hot boyz, RJ doesn’t have to guard the 1 or 2 anymore. I don’t think RJ has the foot speed on defense to close up the gap space on these perimeter shooters like deuce and grimes can and have done. So RJ doesn’t have to guard quicker shooting guards now.

Eventhough in the Indy game his man was killing him from deep, and we almost lost because of RJ man hitting tough 3s. If grimes was guarding him, he would miss tough 3s. So I agree, deuce, grimes and IQ in the rotation means RJs defense against guards is not all on him anymore. And he can focus his energy more on playing downhill offense which is RJs strength.

maybe that was in the win streak - b ball reference has him at 357 in December from 3.

What is really weird - is he is shooting 50% from 3 on Saturday and Monday games. It's only 3 & 2 games respectively, but compared to Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday when his % is firmly in the 200s%

Good to hear.

The Pacers game was unquestionably his best floater performance ever. He took six of them in Indiana and made five. One was off a crafty cut, three were during drives and one was on that post-up.

This kind of touch wasn’t present earlier. Even when he went on that hot streak to conclude 2021-22, Barrett’s floater has always been a weakness. Lately, he’s found it.

“I work on it,” Barrett said. “If that’s the shot a team wants to give me, I gotta be able to knock it down.”

Brunson, the pivot extraordinaire, jokes behind the scenes that Barrett is stealing his moves. It’s not like he’s giving Barrett private lessons.

“I’ve been doing that. … I’ve been watching a lot of film, trying to work on new things,” Barrett said. But it’s a little easier to pick up tips from someone whose office is only a few lockers to your left.

“I give him a hard time, but he’s in a rhythm,” Brunson said. “He’s playing well. He’s just being able to read a defense. You see something, you try to attack it. He’s just doing great at it.”

If our athletes can pick up savvy from Brunson, watch out! I think Brunson is a gamer and able to do more with less physicals talents than most of the NBA.

For sure. Feel like all the guards benefit from Jalen.

If RJ didnt get off to such slow starts, Im guessing he would be thought of more highly in the league, by other GMs. Too much of the season is spent playing catch up. If he could start out strong to begin the season, I think RJ would get more All Star consideration.

What a game by RJ, frustrating that it came in a loss. His footwork does look better. Also looks like he's moving his feet faster. Looked more plodding, earlier in the season.

Too much oxtail and peas n rice during the off season. Probably ate too many salt fish fritters too

44 burger last night. Hey let’s dump his contract!

Good stuff

Alpha1971 @ 1/2/2023 8:21 PM
If RJ becomes a dependable, high volumn 3 pt shooter, he becomes unstoppable when he drives and plays mid range as long as he remains a willing passer and plays D. His D hasn't been great but he has been better recently.
