Knicks · 2021 trade deadline is fast approaching, who do you want the Knicks to try to get? (page 4)

Let’s be honest FA sucks, and a lot of these trade scenarios are ignoring that we would be competing with teams like the Nets when it comes to raw talent.

Knicks need to think outside the box

Wash hasn't won jack with Beal + Wall and a bunch of decent players around them. And the Knicks won't win jack with Beal + RJ. Plus I remember at some point Beal had to be placed under a permanent minutes restriction for being injury prone. What's the point of giving up assets for him? If a trade is not part of a plan to bring us to real contention, the Knicks should pass.

You have a win now coaching staff

No, you have a coaching staff that is bringing people back to the basics of playing the game of basketball. Gradually, starting with defense. You give people too much to learn at once, they will learn nothing. Must stay patient. Tough to do given decades of futility, but need to start somewhere. You cannot undo two decades of binge eating without staying on a strict disciplined diet for a couple of years.

Not sold on Randle as the main guy but do think the players you mentioned have the necessary outside shooting to help Randle if he is more of the focus offensively.

Has Booker been to the playoffs yet? He had some decent people on his Phoenix teams, more than the current Knicks have. What makes you think that he will lead us to the trophy?

I was all for trading for Lauri this summer, since he fit our roster a lot better than Randle. But with Randle finding some range, and us drafting Obi, I think Lauri is no longer relevant.
I doubt the Bulls will do this trade, since they are giving up their best player essentially for a protected first. Obi for Lauri is a wash. The other Knicks players are essentially regarded as empty filler by the league.

And a team of Mitch, Randle, Lauri, RJ, LaVine and IQ would hardly qualify as elite, plus will have structural deficiencies.

Agreed

Gotta trade for guys like Lauri before they break out. He is improved.
So is Randle.
Etc.
Think about how great a player is here AFTER you trade away talent.
Payton is a bargain and while we want better IQ is not quite there yet. Payton defense matters.
Truth I’ll hold out hope one more time Frank can show us what he got. Time a ticking. I understand.

Exactly, Randle getting nice makes all our prior roster scenarios mute. We need Really good shooting from the back court, and there are that many options

Not yet but if you watched them last season they were 8-0 in the bubble and are currently 4th in the West right now. He's improved a lot over the past year - which has coincided with first Rubio and now C.Paul helping a bunch. He hits big shots, doesn't rely on his athleticism and cut down on his turnovers. I've watched him play in person each of the past 3 seasons and he doesn't get rattled easily. Can't think of another 2 guard at his age with his skill set - IMO he's the ideal guy although he's probably unattainable unless he forces his way out of Phx. Beal has bad knee/injuries and is older. McCollum is very good but a little undersized and more of a 2nd or 3rd best talent.

I think Randle is a keeper. We finally found a player to make us forget about porzingis. For me our new untouchables are RJ, mitch, IQ, and Randle. I think it might be a better option to hold off on any blockbuster trade and just try to get stopgap shooter and look to see if we can improve the PG somehow.

The knicks are showing noticable progress. They are starting to become a competent organization that will slowly attract free agents. I remember what Austin said about being attracted to the idea of going to New York and being one of the reasons to making the team great.this will thrust any star into the limelight who ever can make that happen. The lebrons, Dames,KDs these are the current generation superstars with a closing window(5 year max). It would be nice if we can now attact the next generation superstars.

Hold off on big trades, if the knicks sustain this very good players on player options might want to opt out and try to be a part of turing things around for the knicks and creating their own legacy.

Any stars on a player option for next year's free agency?

Hard to say. Has Thibs given up on Frank and Dennis? Will there be a fire sale, so to speak? If they're more or less history, would like to see a trade for another veteran PG. Not so much due to the play of the PGs we have in the rotation, but as insurance in case one of them gets hurt. Still believe in the importance of a playoff push to attract FAs. We have lots of draft picks already.

Same thing applies to the frontcourt. Would like to see the FO add another defensive minded big. As insurance. Not relying too much on the ones we have. A deeper bench would give us a better shot of making the playoffs.

I think we should go all in to making the playoffs, show the free agents that the knicks is finally a destination option. I think Taj is the bigman insurance. Point guard and wing/shooting depth i think is something that needs to be addressed. Im hoping Frank can be that guy at point but who knows what are the plans of the FO.

Im fine with them getting a Vet PG to start with shooting as a stopgap and a better shooter at the 2.

If we are going short term, I'd like us to get a solid wing ala luol deng to fix our depth

Harrison Barnes- Knox, Bullock, DSJ and 2nd round pick

Otto porter Jr in FA.

Harrison Barnes isn’t a bad player but I feel very iffy throwing Knox in that deal.

Frank N to San Antonio for Rudy Gay( absorb gays salary)

2 2 Nd rounders to Houston for boogie cousins

But why would either of those teams want those deals? Doesn’t make sense from their perspective

Nemanja Bjelica is being offered by the Kings. He's a shooter, although it seems he's streaky, and can play spot minutes all over the frontline. Center might be stretch unless you're going small. Maybe DSJ gets it done? Probably need throw in a second.

Nemanja looks pretty okay -- has a good career record from the three so a big man who could do that would be something we don't currently have. No idea on his defensive ability. Anyway, I just don't see who would give up anything of value for DSJ right now.

He used to play for Thibs with the Twolves, remember there were rumors Thibs wanted to trade Rubio to us for Rose bt Phil wanted Bjelica as well so the trade broke down.

I believe we have 2 needs. A Legit sized SF that can shoot and provide defense. Jerami Grant would of fit perfectly, we passed on Mikal Bridges, Otto Porter is out there in 2021 FA. People seem to want to force Barrett to SF which I believe is a mistake. Teams can't deal with his size at the 2. The other need is an elite PG. Not giving away assets unless its for a true PG

He's 32, had a great year last year from outside (3pt @ .419!) - would he be a great pick up? Sure - would we have to include our Piston's second rounder? Maybe. And the way we spotted talent with IQ - I don't know that I want to give up any picks!
