We are gonna have 2 nice picks in the middle or higher of the first round this next draft. And I think we gots 2 in the 2nd as well? Oh boy, assets.
If KP stays healthy, I wouldn't be shocked to see Dallas trade him at the deadline for a better fit next to Luka. Though, he should be fine with Luka you would think.
In other news, let's see what DSJ gots because, as crazy as it sounds, he can either be a trade asset or do some PG'ing here. (If not you take your loss.) But these short rotations are gonna bite us.
KP is going to be hard to move now. He already signed the max extension. It's going to be hard to get equal value in return.
A soft extremely injury prone prima donna PF/C with an idiot Fredo Corleone agent/brother and 4 years $100 million left guaranteed on his contract
GMs are tripping over eachother for this!
That pick lookin' mighty fine!

. Agreed. Still early and Their schedule I think gets easier But so far that pick looks good

Porzingis because he is so slow kills their ability to press on offense and he’s not the shot blocker he was here a couple years ago
So my take on the Porzingis trade was that it always was a big risk, with what we’re seeing now was also the most likely result.
The Mavs traded 3 1st round draft picks to build a core of Luka and KP and took on significant salary from the Knicks as well. When the deal happened it was set up. I had always thought it was based on the Mavs limit in their ability to build around their core until after the first pick conveyed, and the belief that the Knicks weren’t sending the Knicks good players. There was also a mutual understanding that by 2023 the Mavs will likely be a good team (which is why a top 10 stipulation isn’t a big deal)
It was a trap trade and if anything the Mavs over performed last year.
That’s where Donnie Nelson and the Mavs in my opinion messed up. They had a good system in spite the fact they were limited in draft picks and cap space, and he let it go to chase after Giannis and concerns about defense. That to me is the biggest mistake.
Donnie should of taken a Pat Riley approach and continued to add pieces that fit around KP and Luka and not gone star chasing. Regardless I expect them to give us a lottery pick this year. They are not good and they can only win if Luka carries them to wins. They very much remind me of the 2015 Knicks and I expect a 8-12 lottery pick from this year. Which hopefully moves up for once in the Knicks rotten existence.
Watching the Mavs underperform. Luka and KP not making the expected impact. Might be because KP (and his skill set) could be better served with a traditional PG running the point.
The player Doncic most closely resembles is Lebron. A forward who can run the point as well as a traditional PG, but who also is an elite scorer.
Looking at LBJ's championship teams (until LA) "Robin" was an elite, All-Star, backcourt, player. Dont believe KP is the same kind of threat in the paint as AD.
If I were the Mavs GM, I would try to trade KP/Timmy for an All-Star wing, like Bradley Beal. Thats the kind of "Robin" Luka needs.

KP/Timmy ain’t getting them Beal. They are stuck being bad.
They can’t even really trade their 2025 pick because if they are bad then (like they look now) the Knicks pick would get pushed back to 2024 and then that 2025 pick gets pushed all the way back to 2026 or 2027. That lottery protection actually hurts them.....
Hell I don’t think they could afford Lonzo he just went off against the bucks for two 27 point games.
Today is the two year anniversary of the trade, interestingly.

AD was just as injury prone if not more, kawhi is the definition of load management, PG13, cp3, westbrook, kD, Kyrie. i really can't think of any player not Name LBJ that have had their fair share of injuries.
It's just part of the game, all of this players are brittle
KP is in a different class of brittle and if you can't see the difference, you are willfully blind
Dude you know I called that out months before he was traded...and you tried to bash me then
I question if he even deserve a max because I personally didn't think so...
I never ever thought he was a franchise player, but would be a solid part of a core.
When I get some time i can go back and bring up all of the KP threads right up until he requested a trade, and how drastically you guys opinion change of him, a complete 180.
His brother, his injuries, his low rebound #s, his fatigue issues, skipping out on meetings, none of that sht matter to you guys...KP was the Man around here, In fact some of you were ready to fire phil on the spot for even considering trading him.
Now you bash him every chance you get..

Yeah you can tell he took a lot of pride in being able to say “I told you so”. 😂. Honestly many of us knew that things between KP and the Knicks wasnt good so it wasn’t surprising. The only thing surprising was how fast it transpired

I myself make no apology for wanting to believe in Unicorns!
PHil told us as such and perhaps knew the best value might be thru trade. Add diva to the anemic fatigue and physiology that was a high probability of injury vs. marketability its easy in hindsight to see the potential.
KP was too good to be true. We bathed in teh delight that OK4 was not as good and D’angelo Russell was immature.
The more time goes by the more I feel we dodged a bullet not giving KP a big contract. Him demanding a trade turned out to be a blessing. Sure our original goal was to sign two big FA in 2019 but Randle has turned into a bigtime player This year, we have flexibility we wouldn’t have had if KP was here, and we have two extra first rounders. Plus KP is too brittle to depend on for a full season. I don’t hate the kid but I was disappointed in him. I felt he bought into his own hype and also listened to his brother’s nonsense

Without rehashing everything I'll just say can you imagine if he had been maxed by the Knicks and we were looking at a dive into the lottery while he bounced off and on the court with diminishing returns? There would definitely be a wolfpack....

This prospect scared me at the time. If we maxed him, we would be strung by his and THJr's salary for a couple of years without any shot at a decent FA. Turns out: it made no difference, we still could not land a top FA. On the other hand, a core of KP, RJ and THJr would have hardly fared much better than we actually have in the last two years.
Fate. No matter what road you take, things turn out the way they are destined to turn out one way or another.
As bad as it is for Dallas they have a generational talent in Luca and we are still basking in an uncertain future.
KP has 10 games under his belt and it would be expected to still have rust.
As I said many times I’m more concerned about our success then any Lose—Lose contrast.
But......For now let the pick gain value if they are not to succeed!
For once it's nice to know we can benefit in a draft without having to tank ourselves!!! Refreshing to actually root for another team to lose games!
The fact that it's involving the broken Unicorn also lifts the innumerable "Look what we traded away!!!" threads from existence.
Now we just have to root for DSJ to kill it in the G-league bubble and come back a new, reborn player!
Go Knicks!
Keep on sucking, Mavs!

... and re-sign back with the Mavs this coming offseason.
As much as I like Randle, his worth ethic, even manner, and how he carries himself some things about his game are I’m not a fan.
I don’t love him bringing the ball and I don’t love Iso ball. We do a lot of it. Its what we grew tired of with Melo and he was great at it. I’m not here to bash either player. ITs a necessary component to a team to have players with that ability.
If Randle can still evolve as a player what is the next level to reach at age 26? Can he find a big contract on another team that will use him similarly? Is he a steppping stone type player?
Of course, how does OBI develope. 25 games in we are a bit nervous.
