please package him in a deal to get a SG
Why bother with this ? He’s 20 and is up and down as you would expect. He’s been the second best player (and best overall defender) on a surprising team. Stop with the game by game hot takes. We don’t beat Minnesota without him.
You'll calm down by tommorow and see things differently but I understand your frustration with him tonight. When he is bad he is BAD.
Yeah, youth is useless. Trade him, Obi and Quick for Beal and anyone else over 30. That’s the recipe for success.
Win now, baby! Because we are going places! (Just not at or above .500)

Agreed sometimes he doesn’t look like he is even capable on offense. Other times he looks like he can find 20 points in his sleep. All par for the course.

clutch moment we had Rose Payton Barrett Randle Gibson on the court thats awful nos spacing whatsoever

Have to go with the vets. Who wants Obi or Quick messing us up, even if Obi has just hit a big 3 and Quick is “one of the best shooters in the league.”

Yeah I never ever want to see that Rose Payton pairing again but Quick wasn't helping his case. I need Rose to sit him down and tell him to never second guess himself. Like does he not understand that 95% of fans trusts his shot the most on this team? I don't care if he hits the backboard, if he has an opening he shouldn't hesitate. Hesitation is how you end up like Frank and Knox and we don't need that right now.

Agreed. His main issue right now is that he dosen't really excel at anything and those types of players are prone to having the games that he has.

It was an odd pairing and this is where Franks defense is missed. But Thibs needs the kid to hit his shots and Frank has not played in two months. The pick that sprang curry free made rose look foolish chasing him.
I’m not second guessing Thibs. He got us to the brink of .500 with this team. Further than expected.
Barret isn't useless. He's in his second year. What he really needs is someone like Cade Cunningham who can direct an offense and take the pressure off.

I think he just needs shooters around he and Randle. Randle directs an offense fine but they need floor spacers.
Barrett is still young. And, therefore, inconsistent. The next Kobe he ain't, but could very well end up being a hell of a player, just not the dominant main star on a championship team.

Knicks have he greatest fans in the world...
He's up and down- had some great stretches and some stinker stretches, such is the life of an nab player. Good luck in finding a SG that doesn't have bad games!
How about we ran like 5 plays where there was off the ball movement against GS. We had zero cuts to the basket on the baseline, which is not unusual for us. If Barrett did not have to isolate 90% of the time he would look way different. He is knocking the 3 down at an improved rate when spotting up.
No, Barrett is certainly not useless. The problem is that he is not surrounded by compatible teammates. RJ is not a shooter, it is clear to everyone, but then he needs to be surrounded by shooters so that he has room to attack the rim.
The problem is partly in the fact that a lot of attacks go through Randle, which is understandable considering his form, but neither two of them are very compatible. When you add Robinson (or any other center) to that, it's clear that the remaining two players should be really above-average shooters ... and for us starter is Payton and replacement is Rose.
I suppose its really not in the realm of reality to suggest or credit GS for playing a good game?

Golden state is one of the best defensive teams in the league and had their full team (minus klay of course.) they locked up Barrett and quickley. Randle and to a lesser extent rose are really the only ones who got their’s. This is one of those games the young guys are apt to struggle.

Well then no one would be upset if he's part of a trade for a ALL star. I do think he has the ability to be an all star, just don't know if that happens here if doesn't start playing more consistent

I believe he ends up like a Middleton type where he's not really a star, but a high level starter that will be an all-star a couple times in the right situation. And i don't want to give up on that type of player. His improvement this year are very obvious, even with the duds.

1) Seems like he is more comfortable with the ball in his hands. A willing passer, but unclear what he is doing when off the ball, who’s is a lot as he is at best the 3rd ball handler on the floor at any given time. Not seeing a ton of off the ball movement. Feels like the Knicks have generally gotten a bit stagnant without the ball.
2) Feel like he has been letting the defense off the hook with softer shots that don’t draw contact and are bouncing off the rim. Could just be a function of tired legs. But the Barrett that makes me excited is getting deeper into the paint and finishing through contact. Seems like most of our guards are shying away from contact these days. Not just Barrett.
3) The interesting thing about the above is that I do not see him taking a moment off on defense. With the exception of the occasional miscue, he has been locked in on the ball and giving as much effort as I would ever want on defense. So, while I may be pointing out that I don’t see a ton of off the ball movement on offense, I see all the hustle on the defensive side. Notably, this is pretty much in line for all the starters.
I can’t promise Barrett will perfect his 3 or will stop having games where he is 1/9. But I think he is just showing signs of fatigue and is leaving that fatigue on the offense instead of defense. As he gets older and stronger, develops more stamina, he will be a forceful two way player. Someone mentioned Middleton above.
