Knicks · Iq needs to pass more (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 2/24/2021 3:52 PM
He’s on scouting reports now. He has shot the rock poorly in the last 3-4 games. He needs to have more assists — drive abs kick instead of drive and force

What IQ needs are set plays where he can be a threat to pass even if he gets doubled after the PnR. In the Warriors game Rose passed to Taj in the paint like 5 times after being doubled. That's what IQ needs to work on, hopefully Obi being on the receiving end instead of Taj.

He's should know when to pass and when to shoot, and sometimes he doesn't..But he'll learn

Yeah, but it's a lot different when you have to do it at NBA game speed. I agree, he'll learn.

Enjoy the process. IQ and RJ looked terrible last night. Rookies and 20 year old sophomores take lumps. I thought RJ outplayed Edwards the other day and certainly hung with him from an athletics standpoint. IQ is a scorer who hasnt played PG since high school.

Yeah, drive and kick to likely non shooters.
BRIGGS @ 2/25/2021 9:20 AM
Of course he needs to pass more--you do other things to contribute when your shot is off--especially from the playmaking position. 2 assists in his last 3 games while going 3/22 is going to get him bench time. If he doesnt incorporate a passing game---teams are gonna have a an easy time throwing him off.

I don't see IQ's passing as a big issue. Yes, he has to improve in that area, as in all areas, but he is the second unit PG. He is supposed score more than pass, as long as he is making smart basketball plays, it is all good. I think the bigger issue is he needs to pick up his defensive intensity, which is decent but not as high as I think he can take it. He also needs to quit taking the Lillard/Curry type 3s. He is not at that level yet. He also needs to learn to take mid-level jumpshots rather than 17 foot floaters. A 17 foot floater is not a good shot, no matter how good you are at it. Limit the floaters to situations when he is driving to the hole and is within 5-8 ft of the rim. There is just a bunch of stuff IQ needs to work on, but the foundation for a great pg is there.

He isn’t a pg he is a shooting guard. He does seem to have tunnel vision. But the coach like an aggressive player and that is what IQ is aggressive.
