His best days are behind him but my guess is he would be better here than he was in Boston because he will be healthier and feel more wanted. Boston wasn’t a good fit for him. Not saying it’s the right call but worth consideration. Thoughts ?
Before the injury, I want didn't any parts of Kemba, who was an undersized shoot-first guard that was a liability on the defensive end. Now, Kemba is a shell of himself carrying a max contract who didn't play the 2nd game of back to backs and is still a liability on the defensive end. We already have a guard, in Rose, who is slowed by injuries and will miss games because of past injuries but won't cost nearly as much as Kemba! In the end, that's a NO for me!

Kemba's game is dependent on his athleticism. Not a great 3pt shooter. Injury history and I don't think you can just lightly say that a full offseason will help him.
2 years left for $36M and $37M.
You have to be super solid with getting compensation with that knee and those 2 years left.
For me, that's a deadly anchor situation to be avoided. Why else would Boston get rid of him if they thought his knee was OK?

Only if Boston included significant compensation for taking Kemba off their hands. I've actually always liked Kemba, but at this point in his career we would be doing Boston a favor, so they would have to include picks.

Yeah I’ve always liked him too. This ship has sailed but like I said you have to consider it depending on the picks. Like what if they gave us #16 and we took 16 and 19 to move into the top 10? Not saying that’s a good trade or doable just saying those are the considerations.
yes, if we got picks back too.. Kemba always shined bright a MSG, so if they want to give us stuff to take that awful contract, sure
There have been so many times when we should have taken bad contracts with picks or young players, but I really don’t see any reason why we would do that now. We finally have the core and cap space and now some would fill it with Kemba instead of bringing in as many players as possible who will benefit us in the years to come before extensions for Randle, Mitch and RJ start.
It really doesn’t make any sense, and don’t expect Boston to want to give something really good with him either. Let’s concentrate on us, and let Boston solve its problems elsewhere.

No. First, I don’t think he can truly recover and regain his status. Second, I didn’t really have interest in him as a free agent. He was at best a marginal play that might have been ok at the right price (not $30mm).
Last, he is currently burdening our divisional opponent. I don’t really want to bail them out here.
I have ranted about small guards after age 30 and this was why I stay away from Kemba. CP3 is a marvel and defies logic but mostly these guys are poor investments past a certain age. If they are dependent on a level of athletic ability which makes them special one has to assume it gets challenged. Steph defies to some degree but his range is off the charts too. Kyrie after a certain age is a bad idea. Baron Davis, Nate Archibald, PHil Ford, Brandon Jennings and a long ass list. small guards break down its robs them.
Not to say never ever, or they always break but Kemba had all the signs in charlotte. Boston took a gamble and at the time it made sense given Kyrie walked out and the roster was prime for a two year run. Two years later its not there. Brown, Tatum, Haywood and kemba was fantastic at that moment. Was Horford still there?
If it were one year of money, maybe. But two? Like if we strike out on a FA signing this year, ok. But this would effectively block cap for the next two seasons- and given where things are with our own pending FAs & RFAs, that would likely lock us out of all moves.
In order to take Kemba at this point because of his salary - he would have to be included as a salary dump in part of a deal for another player or a pick.

Look at Jimmy Butler when he went to Miami. You don’t need to have cap space to get the best free agents. Just draft assets. The top free agents will go where they want regardless of who has cap space. Using the space this year essentially just puts us out of the running of the second tier or lower guys in 2022.
I will say this until draft day; unless there’s a big opportunity during the draft to acquire a star, use 19 on the best player available that fits a need and move pick 21 for a future first rounder. Kick the can down the road and keep the pool of assets large. Then use the cap space to get better now. Every year cap space becomes less valuable and draft picks become more valuable. We need to stay in front of that.

Unless you can package the two picks to move up closer to the top 10, your plan works for me.
He’s really bad. Can’t shoot or play D and isn’t really a playmaker.
