Knicks · Knicks are most aggressive Collin Sexton suitor according to Shams (page 1)

Via the athletic.

There’s no other details. Just that Cleveland can take their time because of his contract.

We expected this right ? Ideal Thibs guard with his aggressive attacking ability and plan of continuing to run offense thru Randle. This is a former Leon Rose client, so the advanced knowledge of him is there. He’s 22 and the idea that he can be a breakout star in a different environment is probably the idea. He can play the 1 or 2 so it doesn’t change pursuits of Ball, etc.

Does it include taking Loves Contract? IF so it eats cap space. We giving them picks as trade fodder for them to move up?

Love does not bother me. Thibs won’t play him unless he is pulling his weight.
Curious to what Clev is doing that they use Sexton as trade to get there. Move up? To get Mobley?
They keeping Allen? AT least for year or two? or does Mitch go in this trade and we land Allen?

Allen resigned (we get his bird rights), sexton and Love is a lot of cap to eat. Sexton is due a new contract soon.

IM cool as long as Barrett is not moved. Obi and IQ would be in play here. I have a hard time placing value on Mitch.

Lonzo and picks for Simmons might not be a bad deal for philly. Bens trade value is Likley higher than one might think and perhaps Philly uses assets to still make other deals. Simmons can create room for Ingram.
Or is Ingram the center piece for philly? Nola has picks to burn. Three teams might be needed.

What about a fair market contract to Lonzo that Nola would match, but instead we send them the 21st pick as sign and trade?
Burning a pick to not screw up our cap could be a worthwhile trade. This is providing Lonzo is not looking for biggest contract but a balance of a good payday and solid situation. (LOL< knicks a “Solid” team???)
Could we do better with the 21st pick if we drafted?
Naturally this is in the event we are not using to pick to trade up.

Mitch
Randle
RJ
Lonzo
Sexton

I bring back bullock and Rose. Not Burks. Not sure IQ and Obi stick as they could be trade fodder. I bring back Frank just to piss off Triple and keep his threads coming! Frank as divorced women, Frank as a gold digger, frank as a mouth breathing under developed diva? Etc.
This might have Kevin Love as back up 4/5.

This staring core is intriguing.

This makes the most sense to me. Toppin, Knox, 19 and either 32 or a future pick for Sexton. And it would be a steal.

The backcourt of Ball and Sexton is really intriguing. They really balance each other out. Mitch, Randle, RJ, Lonzo, and Sexton with IQ and Rose off of the bench is loaded with young talent. This team can be good now and for the next 8-10 years.

Interesting dynamic Brock Aller involved with any trade with Cleveland. Was rumored Aller was really liked by Gilbert (was his personal assistant before promotions) and if Coby Altman was fired Aller would be fist to be wooed back.

The Knicks aren't the only team pursuing Lonzo. If the Knicks want, they can't screw around with the offer sheet. As for compensation, I think a 2023 second will be enough.

If Sexton will be the knicks 1st big move of the offseason and Kahwi becomes available and was able to sign with the knicks what can this starting line up do?

Sexton, RJ, Kahwi, Randle and Mitch.

Can this line up work?

It can absolutely work. I just don't see Kawhi as realistic. If we are being most realistic, Josh Hart is a realistic (slight) upgrade over Bullock that is likely under consideration. He's a RFA as well, but New Orleans won't try too hard to retain him. He's a defensive wing, only 26 years old, and is CAA.

C Robinson/ Gibson
PF Randle/ Love or Nance (in Sexton trade)
SF Barrett/ Bullock
SG Hart/ Quickley
PG Sexton/ Rose

I think this is a realistic rotation we are looking at when it's all said and done.

Its about money and where Lonzo wants to be. Nola can match. Lonzo controls part A, NOla Part B.
One would think NOla could have traded him this past season for a low deferred pick at the very least. Nola it would seem either wanted to get a new coach in and see if Lonzo wants to stay, or extract more value out. Maybe both?
I’m no expect here so I won’t argue this out.

I love, love, love Toppin but sign me the eff up

How much better were the Knicks with an attack oriented PG (Rose)? I’m not sold Sexton is a PG but he would be a massive upgrade in our court

True, but a team like Chicago can conceivably step in and just blow Lonzo away with a deal that's too hard to pass and is too much for NO to match. In that case, the Bulls would be simply doing NO favor if they did a sign and trade. I'm sure NO did try and trade Lonzo in season. But what incentive would a partnering team have to do that. Why give up an asset for Lonzo without a deal in place? You'd still end up in the same place anyway.
gradyandrew @ 7/13/2021 1:41 PM
On a per minute basis Quickley is just as good and with a much more team friendly contract.
Chandler @ 7/13/2021 1:47 PM
i was wary of Sexton, seeing him as another ball dominant, ball hog. Might still be true???

that said, his 3pt% and ft% are higher than i thought and i may be coming around

I think it’s fair For both sides. They don’t want him.

They're kinda close scoring wise per minute, but Sexton is still better. When you factor points and field goal percentage in the paint, it's not close. And they're three point percentage was about the same. Now is Sexton worth the max he's going to ask for? I'm not really sure, but my gut says no.

xblvdels3 @ 7/13/2021 1:51 PM
Bottom line is we need a 1 2 or 3 that can get 20 points if we are going to win a playoff series…

But… not sure I like giving him that kinda contract.
