Dude opted out of 44 mil. You knew he was still going to get paid, but damn! Hope they win a chip out of this because otherwise that context for 40 year old CP is going to STING!

Feel like it was only a month ago where there was some chatter about CP3 opting out to sign a 3 year $60M deal or something

He's an impact player on D and covers up a lot of mistakes by others

but, he's also a liability on offense. You can't count on him to catch a lob or even a basic pass

i suspect i'll come around to it, but even if mitch signed for the same number you're talking 20+ from the center position collectively -- with limited offensive skills.

i suspect team chemistry and loyalty played into it, which is cool, but we do have some pressing priorities

Bill Simmons made a good point. Teams seem to instantly regret it when they sign these centers on multi-year deals. Also, they instantly set the market for Mitch next season.

i'll assume this is smart strategy, hedging bets. If Robinson returns, is a force, and stays healthy they can flip Noel. And if Robinson doesn't, then Noel is our starting center.

if we can add one of oubre and fornier at 3, and R. Jackson at pg we would still improve dramatically

DeRozen going to the Bulls.

Knicks failing out of the Playoffs as we speak.

Lonzo at $21 was the steal we needed at the position we needed.

Agree with the Simmons point above. Noel is a great defender, but one dimensional centers on $10MM deals over three is aggressive.

I know you might have heard otherwise, but money does buy happiness.

How many of those years do you think he will not play cause of a hamstring?

NYKMentality @ 8/2/2021 7:00 PM
I hope to GOD we don't sign "Evan Fournier".

At this point I rather just save as much as our cap space as possible and head into 2022's offseason fully loaded x2.

Burks contract is very good.

Hard to be mad at Noel’s contract when he was severely underpaid last season, stepped up brilliantly as a starter and earned every bit of his new contract. Is it great value now? No but if he is gonna thrive on a team, it’s on us.

Now, we do need a PG and this start doesn’t seem promising in that regard. I wanted us to sign Lonzo, but so be it.

Can we land a PG now? Payton earned nothing so don’t bring him back at all!

Somehow the Bulls don't strike me as a well run franchise. Everyone has their opinion but by midseason we'll see if the Bulls improved via FA (the way Atl did this year) or if they're still a mess

imagine Lauri is now out.

the way i heard it is: money doesn't buy you happiness, but at least you get to choose your miseries

What are we up to?

Whatever it is, we're not going to find out tonight.

Lonzo and Derozan is a good haul. Hard to think that team doesn’t move above us right now.

We need a starting PG and a starting SF before we can say we improved.

with derozen gone from SAS and SAS having money i suspect we are battling with them for Oubre and/or Fornier.

I know others on this board (whose opinions i respect) have different views, but i hope we sign R. Jackson and he does not seem like an out of the gate signing. He's not worth some blow him out of the water offer, but we're also going to need to go over 10 to get him away form the Clips -- who I recall are limited to that amount for some reason or another.

and based on nothing but conjecture i hope the knicks get a shot at Rose where he can feel out the market some and gives us something akin to a right of first refusal.

martin @ 8/2/2021 7:11 PM
I'm glad to see him gone from Brooklyn, he always killed the Knicks

Chandler @ 8/2/2021 7:14 PM

just a thought: but with Noel now getting starter money, i wouldn't be stunned if they package Mitch's very valuable cheap money contract in a trade. E.g., would Mitch and the Hornet's pick net Terry Rozier at this point? they're stacked at guard

Not disappointed

Knicks South: KP, THJ, Try Burkes, Bullock

at some point Luka throws a nuttie.

Unless we have a SF ready to go - we will miss Bullock more than we think. And going to Dallas of all teams stings a bit. While not super excited about either - wonder if Fournier or Oubre are now still in play.
