CAA client and played with kemba. Makes sense. I know they don’t play the same position but this isn’t a good sign for Vildoza.
Magic fans do not sound heartbroken.
Good size wing 6'6" 220, That said he looks like a scorer mostly - and inefficient from the field. But another guy with Steve Clifford connections. Not sure if he plays D- if we were gonna sign another guy I was hoping it was gonna be a defensive oriented guy.

Not sure if roster spots are still up for grabs, but then play different positions.
Magic were trying to win for the first half of last season so Bacon starting at least means he's a good defender, that's what Clifford mainly cares about.
It's a good deal whenever you can get a starter as your 15th man.

We need a combo forward that can defend. Someone that can at least bother some of the better forwards in the league

Some possible targets:
Patrick Paterson - UK guy, can shoot the rock - has a lot of playoff experience.
I also like Paul Milsap and Ed Davis, though they're more PF/C's.
If we're looking for upside - I like Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (26) if we're looking for some athletic energy primarily for defense and junkyard dog-like enthusiasm - tho I'm blown away that from a player dev standpoint he really can't shoot after all these years. He'll probably be available for league min. One of our faves "next Pippen" Stanley Johnson is available yet again. Amazingly, he's only 25.

Vildoza’s spot is definitely still up for grabs. He’s non guaranteed and hasn’t shown anything in SL. We have kemba, Drose, IQ and McBride plus Burks and Fournier all can play PG or handle playmaking duties. I don’t see a role for Vildoza unless he absolutely balls out the remainder of the way. Bacon is the same age and is a proven wing who has been a rotation player for a few years. Who do we have right now that’s a true wing? Barrett, Fournier, Burks and Grimes. That’s it. Bacon is probably more valuable for this team as a SG/SF than Vildoza who looks like the 5th option at PG when you consider IQ is being developed as a part time PG at least.

There was a moment or two where I thought that Stanley Johnson had a chance to be a decent player. Had a rather funky jumper, if I remember correctly, and it's obvious he has never mastered the art of shooting from distance.
With that said, Bacon has been worse from 3 than Johnson.
I hope Bacon can play D...if he can't, you have to wonder why we picked him up.
Is his contract guaranteed?

I wonder who we’ll sign tomorrow?
is O J Mayo still in the league?
We could use a side of Darvin Ham on the bench
End of the bench at best. But we can start a new game -- "6 degrees of Dwayne Bacon...."

I was wondering, is he really related to Kevin Bacon?

I think you are getting your Bacons mixed up
Wanted to sign or trade an established 3/4 as it looks like Knox won’t cut it here.
Seems like a camp invite or a favor to someone, why wouldn't the details of the contract made available.

Knox not at SL and then you bring in Bacon does not bode well for him. Granted, we don’t know what his contract is or guaranteed. Vildoza contractually we don’t have a commitment on. Obviously the hype from his signing is dwindled by the fans. HE got paid by us last season and I would have a hard time thinking we won’t screw him over but he should have plan B in Europe in his back pocket or does another team covet him still?
I tried watching his season high game vs. the Lakers last season but it was so boring I could only scout the first 10 minutes before I started to fall asleep.
He seems like a good team defender,he rotates to the right places and is able to see the geometry of the defense and recognize where the play is going. As a wing he primarily covered guys in the corner but was able to rotate out without leaving his guy open. Orlando defense overall was weak but you could see him being part of a good defensive unit.
On offense he lacks a go to move or skill set. It was mentioned he was the 5the worst in Fg% for qualified players. His shots were prayers. He didn't seem to be able to use size or speed to get an advantage.
His best season offensively was Kemba last in Charlotte 2018-19 when he went 38/87 for 44% on 3s. In other seasons he shot less than 30%. All Last season he was in a much more prominent role in Orlando, his minutes and field goals roughly equal to his 3 previous seasons combined. The big standout was his FT. After 89 makes in 3 seasons he went 145/176 82% last season.
Those shooting numbers suggest a guy who can shoot well with his feet set. Knicks have a lot of good ball handlers so hopefully he can find some success as a 3 and D wing.

If you take a quick look at Vildozas game logs you will see inconsistent minutes and shots. He was not a star in Europe so I'm not holding my breath that he can do much here. At 25 there's doubtful upside. He needs to show off some in Summer League. As of now Bacon and Ntilikina are far more accomplished players, just by dint of having significant NBA experience. We know they won't immediately be played off the floor. With Vildoza it's a question mark.
Steve Clifford coached him his rookie year in Charlotte and then brought him back to Orlando when he coached there. So if one is to believe the close Clifford-Thibs connection had something to do with Fournier and even Kemba, then you can throw out the same theory re: Bacon. Makes me believe there is some defensive effort to him and with his size on the wing he has the chance to be effective. That the magic just waived him after he played so many games/minutes leads me to believe he was the coach's pet to some degree. He also played at FSU for Leonard Hamilton and most of those guys come out of that program having a good reputation for playing D.
Huge missed opportunity with the thread title.
