Solid defensively and he's been somewhat respectable on D despite average explosiveness. Not much of scorer, but think the team needs a manager more than a scorer from the PG position. Also, he'll be relatively cheap

Absolutely I think it’s a good backup plan which will suddenly become plan A

This sounds like a subliminal aimed at Kyrie.

Is it even subliminal?

Tyus Jones Reportedly Considered Requesting Trade from Timberwolves

Tyus Jones "considered" requesting a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves following the playoffs, according to Sporting News' Sean Deveney.

However, Jones reportedly didn't follow through after his concerns about playing time were assuaged by head coach Tom Thibodeau:

"Sources told Sporting News that Jones met with team management after the playoffs, and Thibodeau reasserted his support of Jones and his development. Even if the Wolves re-sign [Derrick] Rose, Jones was assured his minutes and opportunities would increase because [Jamal] Crawford is not expected to return to the team."

The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski reported last month that the Timberwolves are interested in re-signing Rose, but even still, Jones has a case for a heavier workload.

The Duke product averaged 5.1 points, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 17.9 minutes per game, and he finished the year ranked second among all point guards in ESPN's real defensive plus/minus.

Plus, the Timberwolves outscored opponents by 6.1 points per 100 possessions when he was on the floor, according to NBA.com's lineup data. Minnesota's only rotational regular with a superior figure was Jimmy Butler (8.3).

By comparison, Rose ranked 87th among point guards in DRPM (-1.77) and the Timberwolves posted a positive point differential (0.7 points per 100 possessions) when he was on the bench.

Never change Thibs, never change...

However, it was our newly hired consultant who didn't bother keeping him:

Wolves don't match Grizzlies' offer sheet to Tyus Jones

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves are declining to match an offer sheet to guard Tyus Jones, clearing the way for him to join the Memphis Grizzlies.

Timberwolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas issued a statement late Tuesday saying, “We sincerely thank Tyus for his contributions on the court and Tyus and the entire Jones family for their genuine impact on the Twin Cities community.” Rosas adds, “We wish them nothing but the best in Memphis.”

So I'd say there is not a hope in hell he wants to sign with us, or our front office would pursue him

Sounds like a pattern with Thibs. Young player at the end of the rotation have few opportunities to prove themselves. Even when they play its in garbage time and very sporadically. How can you expect anyone to play well with that few minutes. However, Thibs supporters will say that player sucks until that player gets on another team with more consistent and quality minutes and plays well. This is why I think we need to move on from him before he kills more developmental years and ruin our franchise even more.

We have a lot more Burks/Kemba/Quick at PG in our future.
Chandler @ 2/16/2022 2:18 PM
regarding brunson (and jones) is he really worth all that $$$ being suggested. I'm fairly excited to see McBride. ANd as frustrating as it is to see him in G-league we all know there's a good chance that's for the best. There are some highly drafted players struggling to get/earn any minutes so hopefully this contributes to his development

Deuce can get in the opponents face on D and also hit the open shot.

It'll be interesting to see if he can redeem himself in the playoffs, or whether he'll pull a Randle. Do hope he can, he's quietly worked his backside off the past few seasons with no hype and no drama.

Nalod @ 2/18/2022 8:14 AM
Deuce going to GLeague. IF he was not going to play vs Nets, he got a game in.
Knicks are bring him up and down is not a bad thing. Perhaps this gets him on the court more but greater than that he has to do well in the big show.

Yeah but Pinson was out only to choreograph new dance moves so that's actually beneficial.

How does one tell? Pinson is the real life Potsie of the NBA -- for those of us old enough to remember the TV show Happy Days
