Knicks · NY Post and Berman writing "member's only" articles?!?!?! (page 1)

fishmike @ 9/16/2021 2:39 PM
After all the insight he's offered Knick fans over the years that subscription rate must be really generating the Post some big $$$$$
KnickDanger @ 9/16/2021 3:02 PM
This move will go right up there with Noel turning down that big contract.
HofstraBBall @ 9/16/2021 3:16 PM
I would pay money not to see anything he writes.

Guess Post is underwater with Berman. Crate full of Donuts are not cheap.

I would think the ad revenue would be enough to cover it.
ESPN has a + service but I feel I get enough sports. I don’t see much out of season from Time which I do subscribe to.
Newsday has a limit then blocks out if you not paying.
Blogs that use articles as sources are tainted but might be the source unless you want to pay.
We all know BLogs are chock full of opinions and is not “news” or “Reports” or a bonafide rumor.
IM reminded of a few of you that make claims from blogs as facts or a legit rumor, (Make shit up) then see it pop up by another posters on the UK who did not understand what it was. This is how bad news gets made. ITs not just sports.

Like you, he has a decidedly negative tilt on most items. At his best, I really enjoy his writing. He is a talented writer. But his propensity to see the worst in the Knicks can often be a self fulfilling prophecy. The “sheep” repeat his writings about the Knicks and it becomes the general attitude where I think things could be framed more positively.

He is a serial pessimist. Examples are headlines like “Knicks nearly blow lead” — that’s a headline for a win. A Yankee beat writer would frame that as “Yanks win in a nailbiter” or something positive. Berman frames the good as bad. It’s what makes the Post more of a Tabloid than News source — that they contextualize the news for the reader to create the outcome they want.

Berman seems to be still punishing the Knicks for their media policies without accepting any blame for the damage to that relationship. He will cite to the last time Leon Rose spoke to the media in a completely unrelated article to remind the reader that the Knicks management are not open sources.

For that reason, I prefer guys that are more fanboy writers because they are more in tune with my feelings about the Knicks. When he writes something good about the Knicks it’s among the best reads out there for the Knicks. But the Knick-hate pieces really come easier to him.

I don’t think the Celts have a beat writer that is as harsh on them as Berman is on the Knicks. Even when the Celts are self destructing they seem to find the silver lining. This is my issue with Berman. He can’t find the positive unless it’s stabbing him in the eye.

Honestly it felt like he was the most plugged in recently. He called both Grimes and McBride. No other writer has a clue about the Knicks behind the scenes really.

Nalod @ 9/16/2021 6:40 PM
Beat writers are really have not been on the “beat” for a while. HE does a lot of Phantom “Scouts” these days.
The rumor mills are frequent but writers in bars, on the plane with team, traveling, in locker room is not happening.
Watch the games and see what happens!

This is a spot on take to my mind. My instinct is he's still getting back at Phil. Not to mention Dolan. But overriding and overbearing negativity has been the nature of Knicks coverage for years now, to the point of criticizing and the rampant clowning of moves that actually turned out very well for the team (see "Porzingis"). It doesn't serve me as a fan any more than mindless puff coverage.

Was very amusing to hear Thibs and the players call out Berman on his BS this past season.

Your just one of those fans that hate to here criticism about their teams...you know the kind that say, were not trash were just rebuilding, or give frank another 20 yrs he'll be good, or Fizdale needs more time, or Mills is being patient..200 loses later, your still saying the same sht

I actually like Berman (especially after KNICKFANTV interviewed him live) he always tells it like it is, he doesn't write homer puff puff articles. He knows that most presidents and GMs around the league speak to the fans and media unlike NYK. I don't think ESPN has some vandetta against the knicks or the daily news

I actually don't like the FANSIDE articles because they're just fans (with wish upon star theories) retarded trade scenarios that never ever come to fruition, and they piggy back off of beat writers stories.

I'm not negative I just have a very low tolerance for losing and BS, I am so competitive in every thing i do with who ever i do it with.

I have watch poster on this site Bash Amare, Bash KP, Bash Melo, bash JR, bash MDA, and turn around and praise frank and Mitch who have never done a damn thing to help this franchise win..

You have me pegged incorrectly. I have no issue with fair criticism. I enjoy unemotional debate on the merits and accept faults for what they are - even calling them out. I've been vocal in my criticism of contract valuation and floor spacing. I certainly hope at the beginning of each season that this is our year.

That said, the negativity I see is overboard and unhealthy. If my wife talked to me the way Berman describes the Knicks we would be divorced. I want to see the upside in situations -- the upside can be realistic - but it exists. Frank's upside was always his length vs his position. He never put it together and for that reason you won't find me posting much about him being wasted. Maybe something when he covered for Elf for 3 games and played well.

Facts are when your sold a savior and not much becomes of it it gets negative. Frank (whom you can’t seem to write a paragraph without his name) and Mitch represented hope or opportunity to develop.
You are very competitive which paints you ass someone who’d rather win an argument then be accurate. Your doing better by not making up as much shit as you used to.

As for Berman and ESPN and fans thinking there is a vendetta I’d agree with you that its more factual to be critical as the team has not earned the benefit of the doubt. Im glad you finally came around to understand and not use blogs as “reports” and can see the content as opinions.

Berman knows what he is doing. He writes to collect viewership and that pays the bills.

Time does create accuracy of events. The KP trade was unfortunate but the cap space used to sign Randle proved to be fortunate. Competitive as you are, you can’t bring your self to give Mills credit. As bad as things were, its ok to give props to some decisons that were made. Nobody regrets Phil getting fired or Mills, but to not at least recognize specific contributions makes you as bad as any homer. There are many gray areas.

Philc1 @ 9/17/2021 8:56 AM
Berman and Isola both suck
jrodmc @ 9/17/2021 9:26 AM
If you clear your cache, you can ready the Daily News Sport for free. For a while, anyway. I cannot imagine actually paying to read any of these rags.

Berman is what he is. Homerism only pays with the Yankees and Giants (I don't read anything about hockey or soccer, so I don't really know (or care, personally) about those . Knicks homerism isn't and never has been trendy, even when we win a division or make the playoffs. Or win in the playoffs. During the Ewing years, he was viewed mostly as a glowering presence who should have dunked instead of missing a finger roll, and then an overpaid injured superstar who couldn't get us over the hump to a ring and wasn't getting his way. H20, Spree and LJ were whined at for any number of reasons, justifiable or not, even during the improbable last run to the Finals. Love him or hate him, Melo got what he got.

This is the best place in the world to play and the worst place in the world to play. We are both the scum and glory of the basketball universe.

That's pretty funny, and so is Berman's negative comments at times.

From the words of the legendary group Public Enemy "Don't Don't Don't believe the hype" Sucker liars give me a shovel.

Your only suppose to believe half the stuff the media reports. If you look at it like that you'll find the lies and exaggerations hilarious and entertaining

We aren't talking about "believing" we are talking about "enjoying."

well you should enjoy a good laugh.

But in all honesty, Berman has his puff pieces as well..

Guess Post is underwater with Berman. Crate full of Donuts are not cheap.

why don't you like Berman, He's no different than every other beat writer..

I don't like any short fat smug condescending idiots that speak on subjects they have zero experience with. Especially when they act like experts and demean those that have worked their asses off and are. Nor do I respect anyone that reads a sham of a paper called the NY Post (ie. National Enquirer) let alone someone that writes for them. Except for breaking Knicks news.

And Berman is nothing like other beat writers. Just ask his enormous cholesterol level. Guy eats more burgers than all the other beat writers combined.

Just where were all the puff pieces on the Knicks the past several years? I sure as hell didn't see them.
