Rokas needs to dominate in summer league based on his professional experience

Depends, Deuce holds more value. Say hypothetically your able to pull of a Deuce for Kessler type of deal as an example. Kessler and sliding Rokus on to the roster could be a better combination than just trading Rokus for future draft capital. Which is all I could see him go for at this moment with no real NBA game data for teams to go off of.

Should be interesting for sure. Depends on what his coaches ask him to do. We know his game is good a the highest level in euro league. If we have a role in mind they might ask him to fill that. Control pace? Penetrate? Etc.

Summerleague is tricky as its a tryout for some and a last gasp at staying in the league. You got rooks with contracts and the undrafted trying to make their mark.
Then there is the money available and how it fits the cap situation. For him, not get buried on the bench if he makes it could matter. Having a path back to Europe does too. He has an NBA out in his contract.
Weird how his Lithuania did not qualify opening up his chance to hit summer league. Was this always a prerequisite to him moving to the NBA? If so, that would be interesting to know.

And is he going to start?
PG Kolek
SG McCullar (he still needs to sign)
SF Dadiet
PF Toppin
C Hukporti

I’ll be honest, I have posted in this thread and the draft thread, how does Rokas compare to Kolek as a prospect? I was curious before the Knicks drafted kolek. Well now most likely we get to see both on the same SL team which is awesome.

Now that you posted our probable lineup I am excited to see the chemistry build between Kolek, Dadiet and Toppin.

I'm not sure if that is fallback plan, or he sees the writing on the wall with this team. Anyway, the roster has too much going on for me to care anymore.

I still stand by this skepticism. I'll be Happy to be proven wrong.

Well at the least he helped us fill a few thread pages.

Timing could not be any worse for Rokas. We have no space for him to get time. So it might be best for him to go to them. If Tyler ends up playing well it gets even worse for Rokas
Nalod @ 7/12/2024 5:08 PM
I think SL is a bit over rated. more important might be the workouts where players are tasked with certain things.
Im not sure what knicks are looking at. But, if if Kolek and Rokas look good, Deuce could be part of a bigger trade potential.
Same for Kolek I suppose!
Nothing bad can come out of this if all play well. Rokas might be playing for a spot on another team.

IMO, If the kid was as good as some dreamt he was, there would be a spot. This will be the first year we don’t have a solidified backup PG with IQ no longer here.

IQ best qualities were not as a PG and it was best for him to move on. He got better and he needs those skills. The best of the best have many tools. Im still blown away by his contract. I Think most of us argued was to be 18mm-25mm? His 35mm per is quite the boost.
WE kind of winced a tiny bit at RJ's 25mm per.
We thought Brunson's 104mm might be an overpay. Until one gets a year or two in it can't be judged fairly.
My point is Rokas is unknown, and Deuce can still get better at playmaking. PG's need to be good outside shooters and then penetrators. Deuce is good at these. Thus I think he'll be fine in any back court scenario.
Rokas? Euros are tricky to scout. Since the style of game is different they don't always translate accurately until they are thrown in to the fray. SL is not optimal but its a start in the right direction to find out.
One has to wonder was Rokas olympic commitment the determining factor to his NBA Future? Qualify and his NBA path closed? WE drafted Kolek and paid him nice is a commitment and a bit of a qualifier we see him as a piece going forward. If so, is Rokas not blocked here?

We'll find out. Always been more likely Stash guys like Rokas are destined to stay in Europe. If he can really show up perhaps as said he is a trade chip and we should move him to where he can get playing time if not here.

Only mentioned IQ when speaking of current opportunity without him slated as back up PG.

Watching 10 minutes of Kolek, has prompted me to request that this thread be locked. There will be no more mention of Rokas.

If he is as proficient at that as he is at basketball, highly doubt it.
Maybe the G League of moms. Ie. yours? (You went there)!
I kid I kid.

But seriously, watching the game last night, Rokas showed little ability to separate. Which is an attribute smaller PGs need. Kolek did. Rokas did not have the court vision that Kolek had.
It’s clear FO moved on from him with Kolek pick. Better player and one with no Euro entanglements.
