We have to make it happen. I say through the 5 position and randles back up minutes. If we go big we can go through the 3 but I’d rather small ball

On one topic you complain about the defense, and on the other you invoke more Obi instead of Mitch...interesting.
we have to get more easy baskets, more baskets in the paint.
Obi can help - he's athletic, he's fast. He's a dunker. I hate watching him just camp out at the three point line. We should be running him in the pick & roll more as well as trying him posting up.
Hopefully they find a way to use him more.
It all depends on match up's and how well Obi is playing. He's still a little too inconsistent defensively to warrant big minutes imo. And right now our biggest priority needs to be to get back to playing elite defense. But next game in Milwaukee might be the type of game we should go small with Randle and Obi since Lopez is out and they don't play bigs besides Portis.

Obi deserves more minutes— we need to find a way to get there. Defense is 5 guys playing hard and smart —really that’s it.
Trade Randle for a package of draft picks

Wave the magic fan wand and say it so.......
If the team falters, "Told you". You ask a but none of us really have the answer.
I can't possibly listen to Macri every day, but he why not tap into the podcast and see what suggestions make sense.
You have a staff on board thinking 24/7 how to make the team better and we not privy to what the thoughts are. THey practice, break down film. We Whine "do better!"
When second unit builds or holds a lead, obi plays longer. Obviously teams have figured some of our shit out and we have not countered with execution.
Pacers ran redundant plays but we could not stop them. They executed. We call time out, coaches explain, they could not stop. Pacers executed well. Its called getting defeated. Some think its "losing" Somtimes thats true too.
Yesterday we got close, but we don't have that extra gear. Evident by blown leads vs Toronto. And yesterday we could pull close but not pass.
Carlisle is not stupid, and they are healthier then preseason.
ITs why many predicted they'd be in the hunt for playoff spot.
For that you want to satisfy that "Obi deserves more minutes"? He has gotten them. What is apparent is if we lose, he deserves more. If we win, its just right.
Im thrilled he is playing more and better.

Yeah, I hear KP is available and we'd get all the rest of Dallas's useless #1's to swallow that contract.

Maybe if he could manage more blocks per game than Taj Gibson.

The move was to do that at the end of last season to try to move up in the draft. Even though I support your idea, think that ship has sailed until his contract is up.
Not sure why we can't run 10 guys (2 five man squads) more often as depth appears to be one of our strengths. Play the starters (Kemba, Fournier, RJ, Randle, Mitch) 32 and give the reserves 16 (Rose, IG/Grimes, Burks, Obi, Noel). We should play harder with more defensive intensity, allow for development/growth and be less likely to wear out come playoff time, etc
Obi Toppin is absolutely HORRENDOUS on Defense.
He doesn't deserve anything more than 20 minutes per game because his Defense is DREADFUL.

Thats simply not true. Go look at his 36 min stats he has a lot of potential as a dfender
Obi looks more confident on offense and brings a dangerous fast break weapon, but he still can’t guard anyone and gets burned more often than not. I don’t see where the minutes come from. A Thibs team need a defensive anchor at center and Randle will always play 36+ mpg. Obi isn’t playing SF and may play a stretch here and there alongside Randle when there’s injuries to the centers but it doesn’t seem like something more than just situational. I still don’t see him being here long term simply because I don’t see where we will ever be able to best utilize him.

Seems like Randle is the new melo around here.

Looking at Obi's per 100 on basketball reference, he as good as randle on defense.
I know, I know - stats vs. the actual eye test, sample size - I get all that.
But everyone on this thread saying but you can't play toppin still haven't addressed where or how we're going to improve a team that looks worse than it's record and could be and doesn't get easy points unless we're on a roll from outside shooting threes at over 50% which is not sustainable.
Toppin and Mitch can get you dunks either in transition or the half court.
We seem to struggle with creating good looks for them.

Hes got much more offensive versatility than Mitch--not close. Mitch looks real slow right now too.

Mitch can't guard the perimeter, that's clearly in the scouting report, so what would it hurt to give OBI 23 minutes, because he has more value on the court than mitch.
Forget about transition buckets, he's the last guy down court 90% of the time

And it is not just minutes it is who he is paired with. Against Indiana there was some flow with Obi, Noel and Rose. Obi scored on a pick n roll which is the first one I have seen with him since Boston/Orlando. Noel hit him on a nice dish. The second unit seems to move the ball better but we just don’t stick with it long enough. I would like to see Rose, Walker, RJ, Obi and Noel for a 4 minute rotation and see what we can get from that

I know Mitch is coming off an injury and put on weight (some muscle), but I'm wondering if he is dealing with an undiagnosed medical issue that might explain how much he has slowed down from when he first came into the league.
