There was hesitation when asked if he'd talked to Kemba about it. I got the impression that talk may not have gone so well...

Hopefully Kemba takes this like a professional.

20 games in, so maybe that was a benchmark along with Burks play last game?
Knixkik @ 11/29/2021 1:54 PM
That 3 guard issue off the bench is why I thought Quickley was the ideal starter given his defensive abilities. Obviously Thibs saw the solution to the issue as simply removing Kemba from the rotation altogether.

LOL the paddles just make it

I don’t think it was so much that as the team looking completely different against Atlanta. They looked more like last year’s team plus Fournier which is a weapon they were sorely missing. We can say whatever we want about this year’s team vs expectations but with all returning players minus Bullock and Payton, and Fournier with an improved Quickley and Toppin, this is a much better team if you don’t factor Kemba into the mix at all. The Knicks brought in Fournier to be a 15-20 point shot creating player they lacked last year and he seems able to do that more often than not when given the freedom.

Perhaps playing IQ with the young bench guys a bit more to gain and build familiarity also a good thing.

There is a big leap between playing off bench and starting. And once you start a guy - with certain players - pulling them back and forth to bench not a good thing.

IQ will develop and own that starter position. Same rules with Obi

So this means Thibs is going to push the three guard lineup with the second unit or is Kemba out. Burks off the bench offers flexibility at three positions. That's a big loss. I wonder if IQ made more sense for the promotion just for overall balance. *Edit: Nevermind, I see that Kemba is out of the rotation.

See? In Thibs we trust. Dude is so classy and said it the way it needed to be said. You know they looked at the tape and was like "this guy isnt doing it"

on a side note I feel bad for Kemba. Really wanted to see him succeed here and maybe we see him later at some point but seems to be the right move.

Same....Feel for Kemba. It didn't help that we pushed that 'coming home' narrative. With that said, it was clear that he needed to be removed from the lineup. Glad to see Thibs do this now as opposed to letting it linger like he did with Payton before benching him in the playoffs.

Also, does this mean Grimes is now a part of the 2nd unit?! I hope so....
Nalod @ 11/29/2021 2:41 PM
We suprised by this move but not. I started the season with tempered expectations with him and argued the enthusiasm by fans not considering Charlotte let him walk, and boston dumped him, and THEN he got bought out!
Im more suprised that Burkes is the starter than Kemba demoted. Not that I thought Rose was next up. I thought IQ would.
I can’t see Burks lasting the season starting either by injury or for another guard via trade in a few weeks.

Kemba got 20 games to show the team what he can do. He did.

That or RJ is gonna see time as a bridge between both units.

we went something like 25-11 with him as our starter.

Thibs said he was planning to tighten the rotation. So more than likely he will stick with 9 unless someone gets in foul trouble. I’m guessing it’s Rose, Quickley, Toppin and Noel off the bench and Grimes becomes situational for defensive purposes.

He said the same rotation he used against ATL, but he also said he want's to tighten up the rotation so that can mean going from 10 to a 9 man rotation

BRIGGS @ 11/29/2021 3:14 PM
I love kemba but it’s a no brainer
Well use kemba from time to time or get him traded for a number 1 pick

It’s a good team that needed an injection. I kept saying Derrick Rose ain’t coming to safe us this year but Alec Burks will

SergioNYK @ 11/29/2021 3:19 PM
I feel bad for Kemba. I really wanted it to work out for him here being a hometown guy. Thibs gave the SL 20 games (-15.7 net rating) which was enough. It's not 100% Kemba's fault but he is the PG. I also think Kemba deciding to sit out against Atlanta knowing Rose would be out did not sit well with Thibs.
smackeddog @ 11/29/2021 3:19 PM
Wow, big balls move by Thibs. Who’d of thought Kemba would be this years Austin Rivers? Feel really sad for him, but I think he could end up in a better fit situation. I presume we’ll love to trade him/buy him out once December 15th hits?
