Knicks · Kemba. Tgis years Derrick Rose? (page 1)
Thibs got it wrong. He’s NOT a starter he’s a Lou Williams spark bench player and a good 1.
By moving to unit 2 it takes time and need away from the team consistency— meaning he yields less pt minutes and if he needs a day break he gets it without killing chemistry in unit 1.
He’s a spark plug. I think we need him and ge can help us. 16-22 min unit 2. Even if we play 3 guards. Who brings more kemba or the 5s?
foosballnick wrote:Kemba can still play O, no doubt about it. But his D is suspect and that's likely why he has been benched. For instance how many open 3 looks did Pritchard get last night?
He’s not going to be perfect n D but I have confidence he can rectify his loose D play. He Shouod be able to play net positive on unit 2.most teams don’t have kemba coming in. He can still go for 14-16 points in 20 min. As long as he’s not forcing he’s a willing passer and will satisfy on d. He could either be an asset for this team or increase his trade value for another. But he’s to good to be benched

Remove the COVID protocols and pretend Knicks have all their guys.
What's your rotation? Who starts and who comes off the bench to make Kemba off the bench work?

Thibs said Kemba will not come off the bench, he’s a starter. So either Kemba told thibs I’m not coming off the bench or Thibs is showing Kemba respect by not sending him to the 2nd unit.
Either way, he’s either starting, not playing or traded.
And I agree. Kemba has the talent to start or come off the bench. Unfortunately this isn’t nba2k. There was a discussion between thibs and Kemba that we don’t have insight to. All we can do is guess. And too me, thibs wants Kemba to play on the second unit but Kemba probably doesn’t want to go from starter to bench. And I don’t blame him. It’s better if Kemba goes to a team he can start or doesn’t mind coming off the bench to backup a vet and not a rookie.
That’s why I said before, moving Kemba would not be my first move. Too much politics and media attention. EF doesn’t have the same NY connection. So for EF to play off the bench would’ve been a win win for both. All Kemba needs is the same treatment iverson or curry gets. They both had a defensive guard to play with. Curry and iverson would guard the weaker guard while snow for Philly or klay for GS would guard the best guard.
I think Kemba and burk can play this roll. Start Kemba and move EF to the bench. All thibs has to say is, we are losing so nobody’s job is safe. Players will be moved in and out of the lineup. But thibs seat is getting warm now. It started when he said Kemba is out of the rotation. Now he has to justify why he took someone out that can score 30 in his sleep vs simply moving him to the 2nd unit. Good luck dancing around that Thibs.

I think for the immediate future you give Rose time to heal his ankle. You give kemba those minutes and start Mcbride. When Rose is 100% you evaluate what u have

You side stepped all of the hard parts that Thibs has to deal with and the reality of the situation.
blkexec pretty much laid out the situation

Whoever isn’t in covid protocol

Maybe I am missing something, but I've only seen Kemba say that he will do whatever is best for the team. Never read or heard a quote from him where he said he only wants to start or he doesn't want to play at all. In fact, Thibs was the one that said he only views Kemba as a starter. And we've seen Thibs remove a starter completely from the rotation when elf went from starter to collecting DNP's.

That’s just my guess….Reading between the lines. Kemba is well liked so he’s not a locker room cancer. Thibs talked highly about him since he arrived. Assuming its purely a basketball issue for his removal from the team. I would think the way Kemba played shows everybody he can still take over games with offense alone. And if Kemba really wanted to play, I’m sure thibs would not say no Kemba, a veteran nba player from NYC, I have too much respect for u to come off the bench. So no you can’t play. There’s more to this story.
Sounds like we are missing some details, that the media doesn’t even know. Either way, thibs and the FO needs to handle this situation carefully. Im just eating popcorn enjoying the show. Bench or start doesn’t matter to me. I just want a consistent organization that sticks to a plan. 1. Are we developing yoots? 2. Are we trying to win a chip right now? 3. Are we trying to make the playoffs? I would assume we are trying to do both 1 and 3. Make the playoffs and develop the yoots. Then trade Kemba and move grimes and McBride up the roster chart.
I did not see the game, but isn’t the goal “winning”. Glad he played well. Not glad we lost.
Kemba is not the problem, but he is not the solution.
Knixkik wrote:The best option was always to try IQ at PG as he brings more defense and use Rose and Walker together off the bench. But the second half of the Rockets game indicates that Thibs is dead set in Quickley as the bench spark when he went with McBride after Rose didn’t return as starter for the second half. It’s clear that Kemba has no real future on this team. Covid has made depth more important than ever, However eventually the Knicks need to consolidate talent. Randle, Fournier, Barrett, Noel, Burks plus Rose, Quickley, Robinson, Grimes, McBride, Walker, Toppin. You can’t play 7 guys off the bench. Eventually Grimes will be out of the rotation again and Toppin will be stuck at 12 mpg and people will be calling for more minutes for them, while still saying Kemba deserves his 15-20 mins. There simply isn’t enough time for everyone that people are calling to play more unless Thibs just plays everyone 15 mpg like it’s a 6th grade team. You see the way he treats Walker vs someone like Fournier who has struggled too but Thibs is calling him tough and not even considers changing his role or benching him. But I will say again, eventually the Knicks need to consolidate talent and upgrade.
Really its more about weeding out the older players and building a young core who can stay together. Kemba is not that but hes a short term bench booster.
Our line up
C Robinson Noel Gibson Sims Certainly overstocked. To me its time to say goodbye to Gibson and put Noel on the trade market
PF Randle Toppin Probably the easiest position to figure. Randle plays big minutes UNLESS he stinks. Toppin needs the rest plus intangible minutes from 5 and 3 both are Knicks even with randle having downward year)
SF R J Barrett Burkcks Knox Knox is the only guy with natural 3 size(whatever that means) Burcks is better as the undersized 3 man off the bench Barrett an undersized 3. Barrett's our guy but he has to be on watch for being consistently inconsistent (possibly everyone for sale here0
Sg Fournier Grimes Quickley Need to see more of grimes Quickley had a great game last game but has also been grossly inconsistent(although more of a tolerable inconsistency) still evaluating everyone)
PG McbRide Rose Walker Toughest position Rose and walker are or should be back ups Both are shoot first PGs I put Mcbride first because thats the value here. Obviously a miniscule sample size but possibly the most well rounded two way player on the team. Still question marks about his PG play but he QB a great game on his first try. Quickley can also play 1 but hes more of a 2 At soem point Rose or walker will have to go. Most likely walker with a much easier contract and I think we saw what he can still do
So this is an evaluation year as we try to win. Consolidating positions for our real assets will be hard. What would u want if youre another team and are we GOOD enough to try deals like that.

I'm wondering if we should put RJ back at the SG position- that is where he's played before and had success- the question being, is he having an off year because of the different competition he is going after.
I still like going with a small line up with him technically at the 4.
Good thing Selden got some burn, or Kemba would still have the worst D rating on the team. That Thibs, he's always looking out for his guys.
