Knicks · Kemba and Rose are killing our aeasom (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 1/18/2022 12:23 AM
Its almost ridiculous that we signed two injury prone pg.

Most knicks fans were thinking 82 games was not happening for either one, but for both to be out at the same time for some 20+ games that is tough to over come.

Noel is another missing piece that's killing us.

We don't make the playoffs last season without Noel and Rose

Our depth is the only reason we're still floating.

With no pg on the market, what do we do?

WOODMANnYk @ 1/18/2022 12:28 AM
This is the chance you take and it doesnt mean it will go well. Kemba and Rose are injury prone but Knicks will take that into consideration during the off season. One good note, Kemba and Rose do not have massively huge contracts so we can manuever and get creative with their affordable short term contracts.
Knixkik @ 1/18/2022 7:38 AM
PG is a big problem. Could make a deal for LeVert who brings the Burks size but with more PG qualities like playmaking and dribbling penetration.

But more than likely get Kemba back and hope he doesn’t break down again until Rose can come back around after the allstar break I’m guessing.

Brunson is a more likely option in the offseason, but he’s probably the target if we can’t land Fox.

What’s clear is thibs and Kemba haven’t been on the same page. Even now, thibs has put the ball in Kembas court basically saying he’s cleared to play but will come back when he feels ready.

I'm not a fan of trying to convert SG's into PG's. We need a natural, instinctive PG to run the show. Seems like we've been looking for a franchise PG since we shipped out Mark Jackson.

Fixed it. I will say Derek Harper wasn't that bad, but he was like 66 when the Knicks got him.

Keep on keeping on. We .500. Kemba cameand his words were also spoken that he’d play back to back. He can’t. If we make playoffs he can’t likely survive a long series.

What to do? DeuceMania lasted a game. HE can light up the Gleague, but not the NBA.
The depth you speak of that keeps us buoyant is not to be taken for granted.
LIke most years and teams, one balances salvaging a season but at what cost?

What to do? “Be Cool!”

Unless there is a palpable trade for Brunson, why would the Knicks do anything?

Both Rose and Kemba will be back shortly.

IQ needs more PG minutes. McBride could use some scrap minutes too.

What is there really to complain about? I mean, besides the obvious?

MS @ 1/18/2022 10:16 AM
This is why you make Lonzo Ball you’re priority in the offseason and add a taller point guard that can defend and shoot the three at a high percentage and is on your teams timeline.

They had the worst offseason of anyone to date. 4 signings and 3 of them missing most of the season with injuries.

I was begging for Lonzo Ball. He was by far my favorite offseason Free Agent.

But unfortunately Ball had other plans. He never wanted New York. He always wanted Chicago; which is why he signed with Chicago immediately. And it felt as if a deal was already in place before Free Agency ever even began (that's how fast he was signed by Chicago).

I'm hopeful NY can stay in the hunt for the playoffs and just make sure to have both Kemba Walker and especially Derrick Rose 100% healthy, fresh and rejuvenated for postseason play. Postseason play is where we need both Kemba/Rose healthy and ready to fight.

100%

Lonzo was a RFA, so both side of NOP and CHI knew beforehand what was going down. Knicks just didn't have the outgoing players to work with

martin @ 1/18/2022 10:52 AM
I don't watch Lonzo and only look at his stats.

The one thing he does not do is break down a defense and get into the mid range or rim as much as other PGs out there. He shoots a ton of 3s and I'd say he is below average at getting/taking shots at rim and has zero midrange game.

His team makes up for it with DeRozan and Zach LaVine but I don't think it works on the Knicks.

The Knicks NEED a breakdown, team organizer who can also see the lob.

I agree but the pace we play at is ridiculous, and the only way that can change is the person bringing the ball up court.

2 fast break points yesterday and we were down double digits most of the game, something has to give because we won't even win half of our remaining games playing like this

Charlotte game aside, why do you care about pace? Pace does not neccesarily mean wins. Pace should be dictated by the type of roster you have and what your team strengths are.

The Knicks do not have any wing players or good enough passers to have a quick pace, so why would they strive for that?

They are a defensive team that also should out rebound their opponents.

Did anyone care that the 90s Knicks were not doing MDA style shot clock management? Nope, quite the obvious for obvious reasons: it didn't play to their strengths.

MS @ 1/18/2022 11:16 AM
The Knicks could have done the same deal they did for Reddish and locked Lonzo in ahead of time. Which seems to be the only way to get people here.

It’s literally mind blowing how many easy shots, lobs and opportunities we miss every night because of over dribbling and not whipping the ball around.

The Knicks are in a very rough spot moving forward. Not better than three non playoff teams for the foreseeable future in Charlotte, Cleveland and Chicago, not as good as Philly, Miami, Milwaukee and NJ. Even ish with Boston. Better but not as talented as ATL.

Unless something happens injury wise the Knicks are pissing into the wind in mediocrity.

Lonzo isn't the type of player Thibs wants at point guard. We've gone through four coaches who took Lonzo off the ball during his career. He's a good player, but he becomes Quentin Grimes in the halfcourt. I'm not sure the Knicks become that much better if they sign him, especially on his current deal. I'm hopeful RJ becomes the type of playmaker on the wing where a guy like Lonzo does make sense.

The knicks grab a rebound, walk the ball up court, wait until the opposing teams defense is set, then go into their play, which is why we have the 4th worst FG% in the entire NBA, 3rd slowest pace, 2nd worst in assist, dead last in fast break points.

we have 7 rotational players shooting 41% or below from the floor, why because we get no easy baskets

Had it not been for Mitch's Dunks we would be the worst shooting team in the NBA, on the flip side because he's always station in the paint, we take too many mid range jumper, contested shots, off balance floaters.

SergioNYK @ 1/18/2022 11:57 AM
Age and injury were the huge risks with Rose and Kemba and nobody should be surprised they have been in and out all season. I think Burks and IQ have done a decent job as of late considering the circumstances but we desperately need a starting caliber PG who is reliable. But those guys are super hard to find and obtain and we'll probably have to overpay severely for someone like Fox or even Brunson. I think we should stay on course and go with what we have this season unless we can get a fair deal. No sense in selling the farm for someone we are unsure of. We can probably acquire another 'Rose' or 'Kemba' for a lesser price to add more depth there.
