Knicks · Controversial take? If I could only keep one SG, I'd go Grimes over RJ (page 3)

Not controversial at all.

Although I would like to see them on the Knicks together, I would move RJ TOMORROW for an upgrade at the PG position.

I'm dangling Barrett and/or Robinson in front of the Thunder and see if they will bite on them for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Imma wait until year 2 but loving what I’m seeing from him now.

RJ since January 1st when he got healthy has been looking great. Better right hand finish to the rim, in traffic dunks, and pull up midrange jumper. HIs rise coincides with randles meltdown and as I have said many times the Chemistry issues that came up.
My opinion is RJ still has another level he can get to. He has reached this a few times with 30plus pt games. The rise to this level is inconsistant, he is 21.
Its subective, some think he should be there by now. Reasonable. I see a kid who seems to be adding tools layer upon layer.
He gets blocked in traffic but that is a development thing. He has been going under defenders in this stretch and sometimes does not get it right.
Thibs is developing him and it costs us sometimes.

I love that grimes is starting and looking good. Good glue guy with a sweet stroke. What a great draft pick at the 25 spot!!!!

I don’t have to pick or figure out next seasons team. Not my job. Glad we have both players.

One more note on this. We never want a Knicks player to be just mediocre, that's playoff doom or not even getting to playoffs no less doing well in playoffs.

High usage and mediocre is still bad.

I was being a bit facetious. My hope is the RJ will become a plus level finisher. He gets to the rim, just messes up the shots.

The bottom line is we HAVE to play Randle at C when Mitch is on the bench AND stop playing Kemba- it frees up the mins for Obi and/or Can at PF, and allows us to try out more dynamic lineups to complement RJ, Grimes and co. and frees up PT to give McBride chance to develop. But Thibs won't entertain the idea because... because nothing must change!
