RJ is considered “clutch” cause he finally hit a FT and now we’re comparing him to Scottie Pippen?!
Both he and Randle shot 6-22. RAndle had one more turnover than Barrett did and was 4+ to Barrett’s 4-.

Lol. Yeah, the Scottie Pippen comparison is a bit much but RJ is proving to be a keeper. He just has to continue to work on his shooting and free throws.
Regarding the free throw line, it’s true that I don’t trust him to be a consistent free throw shooter during games, but I am comfortable with him at the line in clutch situations. It feels different which is good.
I like his attitude on defense at the end of the game. Want him guarding the ball on the last play of the game.
Reminds me of a young Tracy McGrady - less dunking though. As he improves that 3 and his passing, he has tremendous ability to lead a team.
Randle is still the best player on the team for now, but Barrett will surpass him at some point. I hope we can keep both long term and add a real third player to complement them.
RJ has that Eli/Jeter DNA. He's a keeper.
Starting in December, he upped his usage to 28-29%. It's clear he has grown as a player this year. Him taking control of the offense with Rose injured and Randle struggling has been a huge bonus.
I don't see him as Scottie or TMac.The guy he reminds me of is Kobe. I don't think Kobe was blessed with other worldly athleticism or shooting- he just worked his ass off and never shyed from the moment.I'm not saying that RJ will or is Kobe, but it just seems like that is more his style.
I don't think Barrett will ever be a star player. Not talented enough offensivly. Good teams would never let him shoot this much. His offensive production is because the Knicks force him into a scorers role.

Kobe did have the quick lose athletic prowess that RJ has yet to demonstrate. At 21 he is very strong and his powers thru to implement the fundamentals he works hard at. Kobe could fly out of highshool. He was wilding out of the gate!
At 21 I can’t say he is a star or not. Has a bit of MCgrady in him but still has at least one more level to get to physically.

Did you think Booker would be talented enough? Cause he had similar stats over his first 3 years and shot it even more.

I get what your saying but lots of NBA players can score 20 a night if they get a green light to shoot 20 shots. Barrett gets that chance because he was the 3rd pick in the draft.

Year 2 - Show several glimpses why you were picked 3rd
Year 3 - Take a step offensively and defensively
Year 4 - Improve offensive efficiency and defensive consistency

Not too much different from every other top 3 pick. And they are top picks cause of the potential.
It's up to RJ to improve his shooting but it's not like he is just hoisting shots up and doing nothing else to be deserving of playing time and the shots he is taking.
I think he plays pretty good defense, hustles, passes to Mitch, etc... but he really does need to improve his offensive efficiency if he wants to separate himself and become a focal point of this franchise. You can't have many 6 for 22 shooting nights and be looked at as a real offensive threat. I think he'll get there but just don't think the Randle/RJ combo brings out the best in one another. They're both similar in they can look great offensively at times, and looks clueless on other nights. But RJ is 21 and hustles more so let's hope we can find a taker for Randle this offseason (in addition to finding a PG, keeping Mitch, etc)...

As someone pointed out, getting his FTs up to 80% is the key.

I suspect that either RJ or Randle goes in a trade this summer. While I'm 100% behind Randle going - if they try to swing for a Donovan Mitchell deal - I think it's RJ who goes. I would offer Randle and 14 1st round picks but the Jazz would probably want RJ and 3 1st rounders. I could accept that b/c Donovan is terrific but only if it meant they were also dealing Randle in a separate deal.
If not focusing on a Mitchell trade - we'll probably go for a Brunson deal which would likely keep RJ and Randle out of any trades...
It seems to me that people ignore that RJ is 21 years old. It may not be a given, but trading him now is likely selling low. Of course that is the Knicks (and fans) way.
