Knicks · PLAY KNICKS GM - 2022 OFFSEASON - what to do? (page 1)

MaTT4281 @ 3/29/2022 12:53 PM
Wait, I'm team "Pay the Man", but our only option to keep Mitch is to max him out?

Last year a max extension was 4 year, $48M (yes, sign me up!), but he's unrestricted this year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a $40M/yr contract? Pretty sure we've got some middle ground to explore...

Robinson is currently eligible for an extension worth up to $55.6 million over four years. Since the Knicks exercised his team option for this season, he will become an unrestricted free agent in 2022. This could incentivize them to extend him before the end of the season.

If he takes $55 over 4 years, you make that deal.

I mean, I think that hand has already been played. We've got 6 games left, less than 2 weeks to the season. What incentive does Mitch have to accept an offer before the offseason? He's already gone this far in terms of taking on risk, playing without a contract secured. See what offers you can field.

Within that context though, yes, I would sign Mitch to a 4 year $56M contract; $14M/year - but at this point, it's going to be left to the market to determine a price.

franco12 @ 3/29/2022 1:36 PM
where is fire Thibs?

I'm going with keeping Mitch, RJ on less than a max - if possible, and move Randle if it's a decent value deal back. I like him as a player, but a bit worried about his sour personality affecting the other players.

I'm paying Adam off to give us the top pick, but otherwise taking BPA with a heavy lean on a PG.

Next year is the first year of a three year plan to make the play offs and make progress in advanceing. I don't see the talent to win a championship, so unless we're looking to Hinkie/process things, that is my goal - a nice 45-50 win team for 2-5 years.

I'm not going to throw big money after a player like a Brunson unless I am moving in return a player like Randle or Fournier.

I'm also going to sample Alec Burks DNA, and inject into the rest of my players.

which is probably 4 years @ $80m, so we're probably 5 years $100m - which for a player like Mitch at his peak athletic years is a pretty good deal.

My plan is very simple.

-Draft BPA
- package Burks and Noel together to a team with cap space and attach the Dallas pick next year (lottery protected)
- Sign Jalen Brunson for his going rate
- Hold mitch using his caphold until signing Brunson with the promise of a 4 year 50 mil contract
- Extend RJ. Keep Randle.

C Mitch
PF Randle
SF Barrett
SG Fournier
PG Brunson
Bench: Rose, Quickley, Grimes, Reddish, Toppin, Sims, Gibson, McBride, Drafted players

BRIGGS @ 3/29/2022 3:46 PM
Re sign Mitch Robinson
draft Tari Eason
2nd rd draft a center
re motivate Julius Ranbdle Rehab Nerlens Noel and Derrick Rose
Look at the cost of Malcolm Brogdon(value 1 draft pick in 2023 + Rose contract etc.. I like the player at right cost.

You're keeping Mitch, Noel and Sims.
Why are we drafting another center?

KnickDanger @ 3/29/2022 4:22 PM
"Do whatever it takes" to get Westbrook. And maybe AD and Lebron. And then with no cap room or draft picks enjoy another decade of pissing and moaning.

Tgis will be a good year for a center but of course if a guy falls into rd 2 I’d look at any bpa. If Aldones Williams slips to 40-41 Id take him probably without hesitation over a C

But I think keep it simple and see the cost of brogdon to replace rose.

I do not like the idea of keeping Mitch, Noel and Sims. We need at least one center than can occassionally hit a shot from beyond 4 feet of the basket. I would only re-sign Mitch if the price is right. To me, a multiyear deal at $20m per year is NOT the right price. I would only go for $12-14m, higher than that, let someone else have him. A big long-term contract for a non-shooting center really crippled a lot of teams. The utility of such guys to championship contenders drops off quite a bit beyond their first several years in the league. Just look at Deandre, Drummond, Hassan Whiteside or even Dwight Howard.

who wants to ditch RJ??
Caseloads @ 3/29/2022 4:47 PM
I was in camp: Keep RJ (non-Max), Max Mitch, Trade Randle

You just can't. Smart teams NEVER do this. You do not trade viable players WITH a draft pick. It's the death of teams.

bud.. its very simple but also a non reality based pipe dream

package Burks and Noel together to a team with cap space and attach the Dallas pick next year (lottery protected)
throw a team out there... any team. This is NOT feasible or reality based in any way shape or form. Go look up teams with cap space next year and pick one. The only might be Detroit who have shown interest in Mitch as an UFA they can sigh outright

Hold mitch using his caphold until signing Brunson with the promise of a 4 year 50 mil contract
Mitch already turned that down. He's also worth more.

SG Fournier
PG Brunson
might be the worst defensive backcourt in the NBA

We got guys 10 minutes away from being better than Brunson. Bring in Isaiah Thomas if that's your fancy. He'll be much cheaper.

I agree with drafting the BPA! I also think a Burks/Noel package has value. Package those 2 and pick 12 to Portland for Bledsoe and picks 7+9.

No need to max RJ and Mitch, 5 years $100 mil gets the job done for both

Send Burks, Noel and a future 2nd to Dallas for Dinwiddie. Draft Kennedy Chandler at 10. If we fix the PG position we are a playoff team next year
