Get him to verbally agree on a contract in the 4 year 80 mil range and move Burks and Noel to a team that can absorb their contracts with the Dallas pick attached, or give the same package to Dallas so they don’t lose him for nothing. It’s really that simple. Brunson is 25 years old. We missed on VanVleet 2 years ago. Brunson is a more efficient offensive version of him with less defense. Can’t make the same mistake again. Here’s the answer to the long-standing PG issue without losing significant assets. it would do wonders for Barrett’s development too. He’s a PG who can improve the flow of the offense without completely taking the ball out of his hands.

Didn't you already post this prior in the thread?

Essentially you are proposing to trade Burks, Noel and a 1st for Brunson based on 17 games leading the point for Dallas without Luka. You will also willing to pay Brunson $20M per season. I'm not a Brunson hater - but I would question if he would be a good fit for this team under Thibs. You appear to be only looking at the offensive side of the ball in terms of what Brunson might bring, however we have a defensive minded coach who for the most part trusts players get after it on D (perhaps with the exception of Randle). If the Knicks do bring in Brunson - it tells me that the FO and HC are still not working in sync.

The cost of acquiring Brunson is gonna be way higher than many people think here. Brogdon is a better defender bigger and no way Indiana is keeping him.

I went with Keep RJ non-Max (20mm is fine, imo). I picked Trade Mitch Robinson over Max Robinson. I probably would have accepted "re-sign Mitch Robinson". I think people keep using the "extend Robinson" cap of approximately 4 years $56MM which is not the case here ("The player’s salary in the first year of the extension may be up to the greater of: (i) 120% of the player’s salary in the last year of the original contract, and (ii) 120% of the estimated average player salary in the year the extension is signed. Salary may increase (or decrease) in the extended term by up to 8% (instead of 5%) of the salary in the first year of the extension." I understand that this is a new contract a player with 0-7 years of service can sign a maximum contract of 25% of the salary cap. I would give him between 10 and 14mm per year, knowing that Dallas will likely be offering the MLE of 9.7mm or so.

Trade Randle for me is "if Randle wants to be traded". Guy probably should take a deep breath and try and re-find that joy of playing. Running away is not likely to make him happy. Something needs to change. His attitude, his shot selection. He can be a great player, but he has to figure out how to get back to that All NBA player he was last year.

Correct they just traded for Halliburton

I think Brogdon (29 y/o) can work for a few seasons, but if there's an option to move Randle and somehow land a PG that fits our youth timeline - that would be much preferred IMO.

Brogdon about as reliable a player injury-wise as Kemba or DRose, but yeah, let's trade for him

Get rid of every player not on a rookie deal. This season was an unmitigated disaster. We finished with the worst possible record you could have. The best team to miss the playoffs when 2/3 of the league make it. It was like every game I watched was a complete waste of time. Last off-season was one of the worst in the history of the franchise. When we win 30 games next season everyone will be fired and we will start all over again.

Here, I think you need this.

Disappointing season, sure. PG play killed us and it's looking like last year Randle was a fluke.

Meanwhile, our worst off season in the history in the franchise is resulting in expiring contracts next year for Burks, Noel, Rose, and Kemba.

I'm sure we wouldn't make all the same moves if we could do it over, but the moves we made were made responsibly. We didn't give Jerome James a 5 year contract.

Still set up pretty good with youth, picks, and contract flexibility.

This is actually a refreshingly rosey outlook for you given what you usually post about the Knicks on this forum.
