We sent a 1st round pick for him despite Thibs reportedly not being a fan. Have heard comments he thinks he's better than he actually is so ego could be an issue. Bottom line - will he play next season or is he headed out the door this off-season already?
I have not seen enough of his play but am intrigued by his skill-set. I hope he gets a shot to earn some minutes next year but curious what others see from him and what they think will happen to him in NY or elsewhere. Kinda weird if he gets moved when we could have just kept the 1st round pick if we didn't want to give him some time...
Thoughts?
He's giving me Anthony Randolph/Mario Hezonja vibes. I hope he proves me wrong, but if I had to guess, he'll be suiting up elsewhere after next season. Heck, it might even during next season. They were rumored to be shopping him around after trading for him.
i think that pick reverts to a 2nd rounder after a couple of years so the knicks might have been trying to capture 1st round talent for it while they could
It's a contract year for Reddish and he has got a ton to prove, couldn't be better for the Knicks
Reddish needs to improve his physical body (as he will probably play alot of small ball 4 for us). He is long and has decent athleticism, but he has to be able to rebound and finish at the rim. He needs a little more toughness to his game. I am not sold on him. I doubt we resign him unless it is for cheap.
This is the prove it season for him. The Knicks did not give up that much for him. If he progresses great. If not you write it off. Decent gamble.
All the podcast seem to think he'll be traded this offseason (think Berman did too), which is a shame as we need a player like him.
everyone talks about how much we gave up for him- but it wasn't really much - the Charlotte pick could have conveyed this year, but didn't- may simply end up as 2nd rounders.
And Kevin Knox. And it was really us trying to get more time on the asset that Knox was. Will Knox be in the league next year?
My question about Reddish is where and how does he find minutes?
I like him. He's got a great physical presence, has some natural abilities- but also has problems with how he shoots, how he lines up or doesn't for his shot.
Assuming we don't make any significant moves and based on how we finished the year- and please correct me if I miss anyone:
PG: D Rose, IQ, Burks, McBride
SG: Fournier, Grimes
SF: RJ
PF: Randle, Obi
C: M Rob, Simms, Taj, Noel
So- minutes maybe at SF? Maybe we get RJ back at SG in some line ups.

'But we're getting a cheap look at a lotto pick'
Wiggins came to the leaguue with great expectations. Cam, less so.
Wiggins is not a full grown man and while over paid, a valuable role player who accepted his position on the team.
cam can be a solid 15pt, 8 rebs kind of guy. Still not fully grown with his man strenght he is all of 22.
As for knicks view, I’ll guess one has to compare him to a late to mid round 1st pick at his age and can he still be an NBA quality player. That Cam has the ego and perhaps immaturity is not a bad thing. If he accepts a path and works on his game he can become what he desires. He was not thriving in ATL and perhaps was not trade to the best situation here but then he got hurt when his chance presented.
In college he was the third banana on a very talented team and when Zion sat with his injury he did pick it up. He was very Inconsistant and this continues. He has the athletic twitch to do some great things and good length.
And its entirly possible that CHL pick as said does not convey so its not a bonafide 1st round pick, and if so, its not a high one.
ALso, Cam was reasonbly coveted which makes him a trade chip. We have a lot of them.
Does a path open up for him here? Or is he traded? Stay tuned.

and when I have imagined trades, I've totally slept on him.
So decent trade from us going out could be:
Obi
Cam
Dallas 1st Round pick
Is that enough to move from 11 to 4 in this draft, including our pick at 11, perhaps some 2nd rounders, our Euro stash?
His game needs to be trimmed back. He can hit FTs and he’s long which suggests he can at least be 3&D but his other shooting percentages are a mess which hints at poor shot selection. Trying to do too much.
I see potential but also see what others have noted re A.Randolph and hezonja vibes
If I were in charge of knicks I would hire one or two sports psychologists. One for current roster and one for drafts and trades

To be fair, I don’t have a realistic view on Obi. Is see the enormous potential and athletic ability/energy he brings. If he is all that then for sure you move on from Randle and go with it. Maybe one more season gets it done. So what is that trade value really mean and for at team like sac that needs to get on with it asap. I like that trade idea but I think Harrison barnes salary comes back. He is a sort of Randle type player but we’d be tough as nails.
In my rah rah world I’d like to see Randle return to form but Obi really push the team to make a choice. That means one or the other has best trade value and we get much in return. To see Obi fly with cam, and perhaps Ivy pushing it would be a fun type of ball. Not very “Thibian” is it? Oh, if Jonnie goes to jazz we bring on MDA as assistant? LOL…………….
Back to reality, Thats a decent haul for Sac for the 4th pick in draft.

Nice! This makes me excited. There just has to be a way for him to get playing time.

Last season Burks played a third of his minutes each at PG SG and SF. The season before 3/4's at SF. I think it's safe to say Thibs sees him primarily as a SF who had to step in for Kemba and Rose last season.

Can the league still drug test a player while they're on a, um,...hiatus?
Reddish got added without moving a rotation player. Thibs said that and he’s right. Reddish isn’t playing over Burks or grimes. His future here is based on who else is on the roster in October.

That’s a shame because I love his potential as a perimeter defender
Maybe we package Burks and another expiring contract for a veteran pg
If we keep this team and Randle even has a slightly more intelligent season then Reddish might not see any day-light. Forget it if Grimes and Obi take steps forward.
