So when this happens I wonder who the Knicks don’t flag for the expansion draft? It’s basically the equivalent of a amnesty if you have a bad contract.

I think last expansion you could protect 8 players.

only amnesty if the other team picks.
I'm guessing that the two new teams start in 2025 - allowing for them to get their front offices together and allow Lebron to retire.

Announce plans for Seattle / Vegas in Preseason 2022.
Bids for teams in offseason 2023 (Homage to Jordan).
Announce new ownerships Preseason/ASG 2024.
Expansion draft offseason 2024 - two weeks after the finals ends, and two weeks before the draft.
Start new teams Fall 2025 season.
Gives Lebron 2 more years to play with the Lakers (complete his extension terms), and maybe one year to play with his son in Vegas.

The way it works is you offer the expansion team an asset(s) and/or picks to take on a bad contract. We could offer a couple firsts if the expansion team takes Randle. More realistically we can dump EF with one 1st and a 2nd

I’d protect sims. He’s a useful player on a cheap contract

It's high time the NBA did some expansion, they probably should have done it 10 years ago. 15 team conferences are just clunky. With 16 team conferences you could pretty easily start a single eliminations tournament. The biggest issue with expansion is if quality of play will go down with expansion but two long term trends greatly decrease the probability.
The first is the global expansion of both the game and international scouting. The second is advances in player's health that not only brings guys back from formerly career ending surgeries but also keeps them playing much longer in their careers.
I still think there are competitive issues with the draft and also a soft cap. The league is moving away from true free agency, mostly because it's still advantageous to work on sign and trades rather than to just sign players out right. The Kyle Lowry situation last summer was particularly troublesome- Toronto didn't want to resign him, the Pelicans opened up cap space to make him an offer, but Miami was able to swing in for a bigger deal.
The KD to Brooklyn trade was similarly problematic. Despite losing KD, GSW was able to reset for another dynasty using the asset train that began with that deal.
I'm not sure if there's an easy fix for the sign and trade situation, player's like it because it increases salaries and team's like it because they can get assets for a player on his way out. The losers are the less easily defined free agency in general and competitive balance. Maybe teams could have a biannual sign and trade exemption; they could only participate in one every two years.
In regards to the draft, the flattened odds are new enough that I don't think they need any tweaking. The draft in general is fluky enough that luck will always play a part even with "can't miss" prospects like Okafor, Zion, and Holmgren.
Buyouts are also an issue. When guys go on the waiver wire, there should be a silent bidding process for the remainder of their contract rather than than having to pick up the whole thing. It seems the marquee buyout guys always go to contenders which again affects balance.

I just counted in the past 43 years (since I have been born) only 13 teams have won the championship in the NBA.
By comparison NFL has had 13 champions in the past 16 years.

After a summer of trade talks involving our young players I wanted to drop highlights of some of their best games. All negative comments about them please keep to yourself. This is just an appreciation post of our young talent.

EF contract has club option that year. More ignorant non math stuff from you. Simms will be 27 and unrestricted FA. I would think by the fall of 2025 he is either on a longer term deal or playing in another part of the world. Protect an UFA? Pure genius.
two thirds of this team will not be rostered in three years here for many reasons.

Wrong again skippy. Sims has a team option in 2024 and will likely be extended to a team friendly deal by then anyway. Fournier would actually be more valuable in the last year of his deal since he’s an expiring contract and a at least somewhat desirable player. We may be able to get a pick or asset back for him. I was speaking more in general about getting rid of EF now anyway but you lack reading comprehension skills. How’s Elf doing on his new team?

Seriously, you really doing that Elf thing? What is that anyway? How can you say Im wrong with assumptive at beat that the team will extend Simms prior and do "Skippy"?
In the fall of 2025 EF will be an unresticted Free agent. I lack reading comprehension skills? You just admitted you were "speaking more in general" about ridding EF now. This is what you said:

your right, basically my comprehension skills are not good when reading content from a daft moron. Last time I checked Elf be going to the playoffs. After all, its a team game.

I am a sucker for a good redemption arc. If he comes back with a positive demeanor, plays with effort and plays team ball I will back him.

^^^ we should all remember Julius was all NBA. Donovan didn't get that high
whether to keep him or trade him we all should be pulling for him to regain some form. Personally (I know others may differ) but i hope the home fans support him and all the other knicks through thick and thin. Take the high road
similarly hoping Julius takes the same road and stays focused

Yeah, PFs, Centers and guards The only one on that list who would useful is Iggy and he's washed. I guess Tristan Thompson would keep the writers at Page 6 happy.
