I am a bit iffy on this for the hawks. It has Steve Francis/Marbury vibes.

That 2023 CHA pick is the Mavs-Knicks-CHA pick in the Reddish trade isn’t it

Yes it is, but that is a throw in compared to what Atlanta gave up of their own draft capital.

Yep, the one that when we had everyone said it was ‘heavily protected’ and “likely wouldn’t get conveyed”, but here we are it suddenly has valued- thankfully we just landed 3 more of these supposedly useless first rounders!

I didn’t understand us pursuing him after probably landing Brunson, they just wouldn’t have fitted together. Likely we offered the three 1sts we just got in the draft under the idea we’d later trade him with our own firsts for D-Mitch or someone further down the road.

BigDaddyG @ 6/29/2022 5:37 PM
Gallo only counts $5M toward the cap after his option is declined. We could've sent them Cam and it would've been pretty much the same deal.
smackeddog @ 6/29/2022 5:38 PM
Do Trae Young and Murray work together? I’m not convinced
smackeddog @ 6/29/2022 5:42 PM

Unprotected- oof! No thanks, would have been furious if we’d offered that!

EwingsGlass @ 6/29/2022 5:43 PM
Welp. There goes the better move. For me it was Murray in lieu of Brunson. I like the move for the Hawks and hate it for us.

Brunson and Murray head to head. Nothing much to talk about but always fun. Towards the end of the matchups (at the bottom) you see where Brunson was getting real minutes vs Murray

I'm not sure. It gives them another creator and makes it harder to blitz the Trae PnR.

Ahhhh, that was the hangup on our end.

In fairness, it didn't convey. For me it was Murray or Brunson not Murray and Brunson.

we must have come to the conclusion that he was an awkward fit for us, or that his stats benefitted from playing on a bad team and that he wasn't worth 3 picks because we definitely could have beaten that offer.

I think Murray takes the harder defensive assignment of the guards. Trae loses a little bit of floor spacing with Murray on the floor, but otherwise, you have two crafty ballhandlers.

Yeah, I don't think I could have been happy with no protections.

The Tale of 2 trades:

SPURS

Spurs traded

Dejuante Murray (25, $16M & $17M left on contract, all star injury sub)

Spurs receive

Gallo
2023 CHA 1st (protected for selections 1-16 in 2023, 1-14 in 2024 and 1-14 in 2025; 2 seconds)
2025 ATL 1st unprotected
2026 ATL pick sway options
2027 ATL 1st unprotected

KNICKS

Knicks trade

2022 #11
Kemba
4 second round picks

Knicks receive

2023 Detroit 1st (protected 1-18 until 2024, protected 1-13 in 2025, protected 1-11 in 2026, protected 1-9 in 2027)
2023 Washington 1st (protected 1-14 in 2023, protected 1-12 in 2024, protected 1-10 in 2025, protected 1-8 in 2026)
2025 first-round pick via Milwaukee (protected 1-4)
Cap space to leverage Dallas

I don't even know how to judge where Atlanta will be as a team in 3-4 years, or any other for that matter, but these 2 trades - and especially the Spurs receive side of things - just don't add up for me. Could be I just don't understand the value of Dujuante, thought he could have gotten more?

MS @ 6/29/2022 5:50 PM
Honestly, are you getting a 25 year old All Star for 3 firsts?

That’s literally nothing to have your pg position set.

We couldn’t have given them Burks / Noel, the picks from OKC and our first next year and Dallas pick.

I’m confused.
