Thought this was a very nice article

Honestly I’m not sure how I feel about. They traded a lot of assets to get cap space and gave a huge part of their cap space for Brunson. Looking at his numbers they really do t jump out at you. I’m not saying numbers are everything but for that price tag you want really good production. Last year was his breakout year and I believe he averaged 16 ppg and maybe 5 apg while playing alongside Luka. I mean those are pretty good numbers but I’m not sure enough to warrant over 100 million. Obviously I hope I’m wrong and I’m not bashing the kind but I guess I sit sort of in the middle got now

I think if things go as expected he stabilizes the franchise and is very Kyle Lowry like. Very good floor general. Very good player. In fact with Brunson at the helm the team's outlook feels a lot like the Lowry Raptors... Very good teams, destined to lose in the 2nd round to teams with elite players/stars who are better at finishing games.

To me that seems like a sound plan considering its the Knicks. Build a good team that can get to the 2nd round at least. Stay deep. Keep your picks. Keep developing guys, hope a player like Kawhi shakes loose and you can make a deal that doesnt decimate your roster. Stay young. Randle/Brunson are the old guys now (Taj is always welcome back tho!)

The roster is VERY young. Folks like to bitch about Thibs not playing rookies but his player development has been very good so far and I love how all our young guys play

agree with bold 100%.

He reminds me a lot of Lowry from those Rockets days, coming off the bench and playing second fiddle to McGrady, Meta and Alston. Brunson is not an Alpha player but, like you mention, he will being stability to a much needed position. The most important position in basketball, in my opinion.

There is always risk. Gotta pay to play, and this was a well researched/analyzed gambit.

IMO, it's better than not having a PG who can get us to the next step. I like Jalen's game, and think being "da man" may bring out the best in him. Biggest stage, biggest role, dude's got game even if he's not a star...he's better than anyone since forevs.

Can't wait to see how IQ adapts his game watching Jalen ball.

I don't really see how Randle still fits...we resigned Mitch, RJ needs room to maneuver on and off ball...but now we have the penetrating playmaker we've lacked. Randle not gonna be initiating the offense anymore, so what's he going to do...all of a sudden develop an off ball game?

He kind of needs the ball in his hands to do his thing...which is slow down our offense and hope he is hitting shots.

I liked Randle in his MIP year, but he gots to go imo.

Watch more bball

Randle played very well off the ball in his Pelican days.

I had doubts Leon would be able to get his guy even with all the connections but kudos to him. Brunson should not stabilize the PG position. He is not a star but there is a lot to like and be excited about. He's 25, keeps getting better, has a clean bill of health and has no character issues. Not expecting him to be an All-Star but just be a guy the opposing team needs to worry about and make your teammates better. Be a leader, lead by example and get RJ the rock. Oh and ignore #30.

Brunson will be an all star. Why isn’t he? Because he don’t jump out the gym? Because he’s averaging 16 points on 12.8 shot attempts a game? Because his game isn’t loud? I think we are just so used to paying for guys over their prime and haven’t picked up anyone that was on the upside that we forgot how that feels.

Brunson has amazing percentages 3 feet from the rim and so on. Steve Nash wasn’t athletic neither was Stockton but they were crafty just like Brunson. Brunson is so creative with the ball and has amazing footwork. Great shot mechanics and very consistent shooting the ball. He also led in scoring in one spot on the court (see chart) Seen some great passing by him as well and still puts effort on defense and although 6’1” solid build that won’t let other guards just post up and push him around. I’ll go on to say that after this season no one will be complaining about the contract.

Brunson gonna have the same climb that Brogdon did when he went from bucks to pacers. Just praying he stays healthy man.
doomed @ 7/1/2022 3:43 PM
We stole Brunson from Dallas.

Mark my words this is a great day in Knicks lore. We finally got our floor leader.

Laughable that some are worried or lamenting that we had to move some second (lol ok) round picks! Second round picks!!!!

“Knicks had to move so many assets to get Brunson oh noooo” —- you have to be kidding me with that.

Multiple unprotected first rounders would equate to many assets. Second round picks are like those rubber bands you keep on the doorknob at home. They come in handy sure. And you can find more rubber bands for little to no coat, or do some of you forget that rose was the guy who helped accrue all those second round picks to begin with!

Get the hell over it already. If the Knicks couldn’t sign a guy like Brunson with this kind of deal then when the hell were we ever gonna land that pg??? When and how???

doomed @ 7/1/2022 3:47 PM
And please for the love of everything holy let’s not expect or demand more than what Brunson can provide simply because of his contract and we like to act like assholes in this town. No one will work harder and he’s gonna be fine here as a solid, dependable and consistent PG. just shut the hell up now. He’s not magic Johnson or Tim hardaway circa 1990. But he’s all ours. And he CHOSE the Knicks.

For one minute just stop and smell the roses and be happy a in his prime talent chose the Knicks in FA.

Naw, dude. Anything less than 20, 8 and 5 is below his potential.

I think you really nail the question...

Do you want to pay a PG who clearly takes the team the the next level NOW
Or
Do you want to continue to wait for a player who appears a more title caliber level and spend when we find that

I mean I get the latter... and I do NOT think the KNicks are player away or close. But I do think we can win games and start building some chemistry here. We have a good young squad, lots of picks and good pieces to move around if something doesnt work/fit and a FO that appears able to do things
