Knicks · evan Fournier----whats the plan? (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 7/1/2022 9:25 AM
keep and start keep and off bench or try to remove?
fishmike @ 7/1/2022 9:45 AM
we dont run the kind offense that makes his eff% outweigh his defensive woes. He's good, but he needs to be a situation where he's allowed to volume shoot for his value to really show.

If I could get draft assets back I would move him for Bledsoe's buy out or something like that and go with Grimes/Reddish there. We can also play some small ball with Brunson/IQ/RJ type line ups

BigDaddyG @ 7/1/2022 9:50 AM
Yeah, if Thibs doesn't start taking advantage of Evan as a secondary or third playmaker than he should probably come off the bench. Evan can do a few things on offensive other than bombing threes. I hope Thibs can incorporate that.
Chandler @ 7/1/2022 9:53 AM
i was wondering if Phx would be interested

That’s the kind of move the ‘next front office’ makes. We are stuck with him until his contract is trade-able or we can use him in a larger deal. No way the FO admits he’s a bad fit this soon. They are going to run him out the in the SL with Brunson and RJ just like last year until it fails…. And then probably 40 games after that

Knixkik @ 7/1/2022 10:03 AM
I’d like to keep him and come off the bench if they feel Grimes is ready. I like Grimes as a compliment to Barrett and Brunson, and I still believe Fournier is very useful.
wargames @ 7/1/2022 10:05 AM

Trade him, our 2023 pick, and maybe two of the draft pick haul we got for #11 to the raptors and grab OG. Fournier is better than Hart, and the three picks is an overpay, but its a mix of potential and the pain of trading him to a team in the same division.

Brunson/IQ/Rose
RJ/Grimes
OG/Reddish
Randle/Obi
Mitch/Hart/Sims

Then my dream is grab Dante Divencenzo with the Room exception

Brunson/IQ/Rose
RJ/Dante/Grimes
OG/Reddish
Randle/Obi
Mitch/Hart/Sims

and then force Thibs to you know coach.... Not just Hockey substitutions, but you know sub guys in and out based on matchups and how they are performing in game. Maybe he can avoid running the starters into the ground this year too with actual NBA talent at every position.

The opponents back court is going off... Put Dante and Grimes on them. Facing a team with very strong wings put RJ and OG on them, facing a team with slow bigs put Randle and Hart on them, play a team with no bench.... Let Rose, IQ, and Reddish shread them. I think the FO can get the roster to the point Thibs will need to actually do work to avoid being seen as the weak link.

VDesai @ 7/1/2022 10:08 AM
I could see him+Taj going to Dallas if we end up doing a sign and trade. We might have to throw in a pick.

like they didnt admit to Kemba, Burks and Noel being bad fits as they used draft picks to get rid of 3 of the guys they signed last year? They are not stuck with anything except Randle/Brunson for the time being and if Randle is a salty bitch he will be gone during the season

Yeah, once it came out they didn't do exit interviews it was pretty much sealed most the vets are gone, and Fournier was a mistake. An overreaction to Bullocks lack of offense in the playoffs. They need a 2-way player in the starting lineup next to RJ and Randle not a volume shooter. Now that they got Brunson, adding another defender to the starting lineup makes sense, and they can't promote Grimes there without completely bombing Fournier's value.

absolutely not. Not trading anything 2023 unless its for an all star. Thats the double draft with 15 HS kids predicted to go in round 1. We win 45-48 games next year AND have a chance to draft some high ceiling talent

I thought that too but was corrected the double draft doesn't seem to exist anymore. I think it was the leagues attempt to pressure the NCAA into paying players. Now that the kids are being paid (and the NBA created Ignite) you don't hear about the double draft anymore. Its a good draft, but on the low the lineup i proposed could do better in the regular season than the Mavs and the Mavs pick might be better.

Well we resigned Mitch, so Evan has to start.

I was not for having a one dimensional defensive C in the starting lineup, but you have to make it up with shooting elsewhere And Evan can shoot the lights out.

I'd rather have Grimes then give those minutes to Dante. Plus it would mean less minutes for IQ. I think we're in terms of the two-guards rotation.

Mitch wasn't able to make up for the lack of defense from Randle/Fournier last season and RJ spent most the season working to hard guarding the opponents best player by himself. They do need someone who isn't just a D&3 at the wing, but if they could get a better defender around RJ and Randle the team can ask RJ and Randle to score more and they can hide Randle defensively better. Fournier is a liability they should try to move sooner than later.

franco12 @ 7/1/2022 10:48 AM
who exactly can hit an open 3 on our roster? Who would you bet on the roster can hit 10 open 3's in practice?

There is one guy on the roster - Fournier. And you want to dump him?

Defense may be bad, but the dude owns his problems, has no problem with the media - and shows effort and leadership.

Is he a lock down defender, no, not really.

I say he stays. Does he start? If not him, who?

I'd like to see RJ at SG again - then you can have Fournier off the bench.

I would also be intrigued by IQ starting with Brunson, then Fournier backs up the 2 - and you play him with IQ & Brunson as the PG.

Nalod @ 7/1/2022 10:49 AM
Whats with the “admission of a mistake”? We played burks then traded him. Norlens got moved. We paid money, Not my money so I don’t care. Knicks tried and did not execute. It happens. Do they need a public apology for it? Are we certain Bullock really makes us better? Mavs success is not on him only.

If we have a better use for the cap space I’d be happy to give them EF but they have timmy for that money. FinnySmith too.

Swishfm3 @ 7/1/2022 10:49 AM
Keep...period

Folks are too concerned with what he makes and forgetting what he brings to the table. Very few players in the league can do what he does, so to give him up for "draft picks" because we don't agree with is contract, his ridiculous.

Knicks overall offense is atrocious and Thibs does need to come up with a better way to utilize ALL his players. This is more of a coaching problem and less of Fournier problem.

GustavBahler @ 7/1/2022 10:59 AM
Unless there is a chance for a deal to get us an all-star. We could use EF's 3pt shooting next season. Broke Stark's record. Helps draw the defense further out. More room for Brunson to work, among others.

Yeah but Grimes could do that and defends better. This team was a four seed based on defense, and Fournier in the starting lineup isn't cutting it. Plus with Brunson here there will be less shots overall. I am not saying dump his contract, but see if there is a better 2-way player on the market and move him.

I would say just swap him with Grimes, but he is paid too much to be coming off the bench behind a guy on his rookie contract.

Thibs is the coach and he cares about winning, probably a whole lot more than you or i.

He will start Grimes if he legit earns it. And the FO won't care if Fournier is off the bench or not playing, as long as this team is winning (and making Dolan happy!)
