Yeah but Grimes could do that and defends better. This team was a four seed based on defense, and Fournier in the starting lineup isn't cutting it. Plus with Brunson here there will be less shots overall. I am not saying dump his contract, but see if there is a better 2-way player on the market and move him.
I would say just swap him with Grimes, but he is paid too much to be coming off the bench behind a guy on his rookie contract.
Thibs is the coach and he cares about winning, probably a whole lot more than you or i.
He will start Grimes if he legit earns it. And the FO won't care if Fournier is off the bench or not playing, as long as this team is winning (and making Dolan happy!)

Where was this vibe when Thibs was playing crap vets in front of the youth before or when Thibs was forced to play Kemba and everyone knew he hated Kemba? The smart move is they move Fournier for a better 2-way wing now and make that legit playoff push they have wanted too for a while.

But last year the team was losing and EF started all season. We had the most consistent starting 5 in the NBA and we was losing. So either Thibs doesn't care about winning or he was proving a point to the FO. We will see come next season, who Thibs picks to start (EF or Grimes). One is better and younger (Grimes) while the other is older and a defensive liability (Fournier). Both can score off the dribble or catch and shoot. But Fournier rather do more than catch and shoot, and playing next to 3 volume shooters (Brunson, RJ, Randle) doesn't help Fournier game. On the second unit, he will be the man and the offense can flow through him. He will be more involved. In the first unit, he will sit in the corner waiting or get the ball and force something up. I agree with this push for the 2nd unit. And this is all great talk. But I don't see them moving EF to the bench (not at the start of the season). Eventhough I wish that was the case, and sounds like we all agree for the most part.

Thats how I see it, as well. Grimes needs to show he can keep hitting 3s, going into his sophomore year. Thats Fournier's bread and butter. Let the cream rise to the top!
I mean Begley's sources are dubious at this point, but it does make sense.
I think you should slide him into second unit and let the better man of Reddish/Grimes start
What’s the point in trading him or Cam at this point? There are no FA’s, we don’t need the cap space. We need Cam’s skill set. We need Fournier’s shooting (off the bench). Only player i want rid of is Randle, but there aren’t any takers left.

He also needs to stay healthy! Fournier played 80 games (shout out to Burkes who played 81, will miss him more than I think we know)
The plan is nothing. His contract is an immovable object. He’s starting at SF next season and the year after

I think they have their eyes set on bigger fish.
you'll need his contract in any deal for DM
Send him to the bench because of Evan Fournier starts over Quentin Grimes?
It'll be absolutely criminal.
{Getting rid of Kemba Walker was the 1st step to regaining our #1 Defense of 2020 and sticking Evan Fournier on the bench and out of the starting 5 would become the 2nd step to featuring a top tier Defense}.

If Rose is healthy, you have to start IQ at SG.
Brunson/Rose
IQ/Fournier
RJ/Grimes
Randle/Obi
Mitch/Stein
Cam on the outside looking in.

Fournier starts over Grimes because he’s better than Grimes.

Who is that "better two way player"?
Agree that if we can trade him for a better one let's do it. Think the FO has been diligent in doing so. But obviously have to consider cost. I do not see anything wrong with how Thibs coaches.
Some do not see the aspect of coaches sculpting young players to play exactly as they want them to play. Think Thibs is tougher on the youngsters but so are ALL coaches. As we saw, IQ, Grimes and Obi started getting lots of playing time. Not the immediate starting roles some fans may have wanted but significant roles none the less. Especially if you consider some were first year players.

The bold... I mean you just said "We need to trade for better players" well duh yeah... you know you need another team to help with that
One thing.. Grimes is NOT just as good as Fournier. He may have more upside but he's not even close. Fournier has a lot of skills on offense and is much more a complete player.
I like Thibs a lot but how Fournier is used next year will show some coaching chops. Fournier had the highest EFG% on the team behind Obi and of course Mitch. To Thibs credit he took the 3rd most shots (not enough) behind of course our two LOWEST EFG% in RJ/Randle (hopefully that changes as well)
Fournier's defense isnt good but its not in the Jose Calderon zone. He plays hard, hits guys, fights through screens... but we all know its not effective. Fournier's offense is fantastic and why he's paid.
He's got value and it may be the Knicks. We'll see.
seems so long ago!

I'm probably switching Fournier and IQ. Starting lineup would be better served with the higher 3pt shooting percentage. Grimes, Rose and Stein can carry the 2nd unit in that regard.
There was some chatter a few days ago around a Fournier/Reddish/2nd rounder for Kuzma. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about it here.
I like Kuzma a lot, though he’d probably impede the development of Obi as a combo forward.

I thought we all agreed on iHart... I had to double take and check above lineup before I understand who Stein was
