I also wonder how Jazz fans feel about all these package ideas being thrown around. Probably furious how cheaply we all hope to get their best player.

It is like asking Knicks fans how we would feel about trading RJ for 6 picks plus Nickeil Alexander Walker, Danuel House and Juancho Hernangomez.

They will have to suck it up as that team , apparently, was a failure. Hence the rebuild. That means that those players are just not good enough. At least our youth still has the benefit of the doubt

If their team was a failure, then what does it make us?

Sometimes the best deal is the one you dont make.

This would be a terrible deal. 6 picks plus all our good young players. Toppin and Grimes are clear NBA starters. Quickley is a solid rotation player and McBride is a defensive stopper with potential. We are going to give up all that and 6 picks!!! WTF. Mitchell is not that good, and he is a question mark on defense. Just say No. I would give them Fournier, Quickley, Grimes, and 4 draft picks. That’s the most I would offer and I might add Reddish if absolutely needed to get the deal done. No way I trade both Grimes and Toppin if we are also giving picks and there is no way I trade 6 1st round picks. Just because Minny gave up a lot does not mean we have to follow suit.

Agree, thats a ridiculous benchmark. Dont believe they'll give up Obi or RJ.

Finally someone I know I can trust.

And this deal the Knicks should have done in a heartbeat. Three first round picks is a very good price for a bona fide NBA superstar. MitchRob is great, but his contributions can be replaced, lots of people, including on this board, were ready to see him go for nothing rather than overpaying on his next contract.

This deal doesn't even make sense to me. MitchRob would have been a S&T with all those weird rules that Brunson was under.

I don't know why Ian even reported on it quite frankly

Pretty close to the deal I joked about. Apparently ainge didn’t want Roses left testicle as a memento or at least it’s not being reported

Way too greedy on the player front. I know some here are like they’re not even starters but all of these guys are still ascending and super young.

My view is if we are giving 5 picks they get the players we want to dump. 4 picks they get to choose but never that melo 2.0 haul

So, do I take it that you would trade RJ for Utah's 6 first rounders plus bench fodder?

I still expect Pat the Rat to swoop in and steal Mitchell.
Chandler @ 7/15/2022 8:29 AM
I think there’s bad blood between Ainge and Riley going back to at least Ray Allen. Plus they don’t have pick and need to move Lowry and probably oladipo somehow
Jimbo5 @ 7/15/2022 8:36 AM
I hope this doesn't turn out to be like draft day's Jalen Ivey pursuit. Up to right after the 11th pick was made everyone is hopeful and excited with the possibility of getting Ivey then the big let down. Please Knick front office do your magic and get Mitchell home! Walt perrin has no more friends with the Jazz? Is it all Ainge calling the shots?

* Jazz asked for 6 1st round picks + Grimes, Quickly, Obi & McBride
this doesnt make sense... Mitchell is really good. He's not generational. He's Booker. Legit all star.

Bottom line is this is way premature for us. There's a really good chance adding a floor general to this team like Brunson is going to elevate the play of the rest of the guys. Obi/IQ/Grimes/McBride/Sims/RJ are all poised to take steps forward based on age/arc/progression... he's where it pays to be patient and at least see how this team looks together.

The miracle of Riley also has mistakes. Duncan Robinson had a bad season and they over paid. Jimmy Butler might not age well for all his incredible efforts, Bam is very good, but uneven and not a finished player (yet?), and Lowrey was an expensive luxury that did not get them over the hump. They had a trip to the finals and some recent success. We did not. But we have assets Ainge should want.
The bad blood, or good, these guys are pro’s. Like the CAA fallacy fans have and like to point out. Facts are players want to get paid and the whole thing was created by media anyway. Leon has to negotiate just like the rest of them. Ainge will deal with riles if he can get one done. He might be using them to drive up price. As might we?

Fact is if we do this deal our future for the role players is getting more Grimes type picks and development. Miami and other teams succeed in that culture vacuum to support the expensive core. Heat have high turnover. Dipo is back and he could be the next thing there. Bu that took three years to pay off if it in fact does. Strus was a Celtic kid who got cut.

What makes Riley so good is he is not a pussy. He is not scared to fail and his confidence is that he will fill in the role players but its not all laid out for fans to see. Why? He might not the answers himself. They don’t succeed every year. Difference he has enough success to be cool and not be a pussy. Knick fans in large are way too damaged to think anything will be good going forward and want the sure thing.

At some point you have to think like a successful person does. If not, hire one. Leon never did this job before but he succeeded massively over a long time. Yes, PHil did too. but just because that did not work out does not mean you don’t try and try again.

So I don’t go with all media, and I filter out some of my friends here too because its that hindsight thing. I have no idea if any of this will work but I do know that we are in a very different spot than at any time in the last 25 years. That Grimes a low pick is this important to a deal or on the court is very cool. SO is OBI and IQ, and all the picks we been hoarding. All that “WTF is ALLER doing” shit and noise from media is above our thinking. Don’t mean it is absolute success. Far from it.

I’m not lamenting on Frank failure, or that franchise killing Noah contract, or how we humiliated Kamba and we had to burn something to “pay for last years sins”………….. Truth is I enjoyed RJ emerge last season, and EF get some chemistry and finish the second half stronger. I did not like all of what Randle did but love he told us to STFU while he got hot, and we beat the Celtics in OT on RJ shot! I expected nothing from Deuce so his Gleague play and uneven NBA minutes was a plus. And Grimes getting better over time was fun!

Now we looking at a potential fresh new back court and the potential of what they can do for RJ and Randle. By the way, Thibs loves PNR and Brunsona and Donovan are really good at this!!

This comes together it has potential. comes with risks. That’s what Riley does. Takes them. Starphuchs don’t work because the remaining assets don’t. That is the question and its sorted out on the court. Not media trade grades.

If RJ was disgruntled because the Knicks were dumping the coach and roster and re-tòoling/starting again like the Jazz appear to be, then definitely yes.

franco12 @ 7/15/2022 10:27 AM
so does this seem to be at the stage that we have to wait for Ainge to accept our offer or go into the season and see how fat Donovan gets?
Chandler @ 7/15/2022 10:44 AM
We are in a position of strength. We want Mitchell but don't need him. We will be better and have assets to get better still

Utah not so much. When you look at the options there are not many trade partners who have what Ainge wants. And that team will be getting toxic

our position should be if you want picks then we choose the players (generally). And not that many picks either

Knixkik @ 7/15/2022 11:14 AM
One Mitchell factor that doesn’t get mentioned at all is his contract is extremely generous for a player of his caliber in todays game. Look at what Ayton just got, not to mention Beal, Lillard etc. Mitchell is better than Beal and obviously way younger than Beal and Lillard. You’re talking About a player entering his prime years on a contract that might not even be in the top 50 in a couple of years.

As usual, FM is spot on. Pull trigger only if it's a really solid deal. No speculation. But I'd be happy if we can make it two of those youngins plus EF and four picks. I mean Spida is a legit All Star, so having him is certainly an upgrade. It's the old conundrum...we lack hindsight so it's all risky.
