* Jazz asked for 6 1st round picks + Grimes, Quickly, Obi & McBride
this doesnt make sense... Mitchell is really good. He's not generational. He's Booker. Legit all star.
Bottom line is this is way premature for us. There's a really good chance adding a floor general to this team like Brunson is going to elevate the play of the rest of the guys. Obi/IQ/Grimes/McBride/Sims/RJ are all poised to take steps forward based on age/arc/progression... he's where it pays to be patient and at least see how this team looks together.
As usual, FM is spot on. Pull trigger only if it's a really solid deal. No speculation. But I'd be happy if we can make it two of those youngins plus EF and four picks. I mean Spida is a legit All Star, so having him is certainly an upgrade. It's the old conundrum...we lack hindsight so it's all risky.

As others have stated this just isn't the time to make such a move. You do and it puts a fairly low ceiling on what you can accomplish. Great for media frauds and the sugar rush mob. Not so great in the long suffering long term.

100%
first tier: Obi/IQ/Grimes second tier: McBride/Rokus/Reddish
For me you cant give them the 3 top guys AND a massive draft package. It just doesnt make sense for the Knicks.
There are some that make sense and we dont want to get too cute here... the guy's a fantastic player and may have another level up himself.

Good takes and really unknown. The devil is in the details and from our perspective its not who we trade (im lying) but who we keep to run with (so freaking logical) So the price say is EF, Obi, and 4 picks with two swaps. Keep Grimes and Cam. and they get good. Also tradable good. so much what ifs.
But bottom line is knicks do some winning next few years we gonna have fun. Not gonna trade all the picks and the swaps should not play out. I do IQ for sure over Obi. Rose is first guard off the bench. They want him instead? Ok. Expiring and can entertain with Mit Romney and Huntsman when the allstar game comes to town.
I though they need a star for that? ALl we know Ainge pulls the plug on all this and they roll with Dono for a while? And again, maybe we just in the talks to facilitate and get some side action?

Out of all the players you mention only Grimes is a legit two way player. That's what's needed to win a championship. IQ nor Obi are not on par with him. Forget about trading him for Mitchell that's an obvious setback. I am talking about rather having him in the starting lineup OVER Mitchell in 2 years. That's what it takes to build a champion.

Steph Curry disagrees. We are in the early stages of team building. We finally have some nice pieces and mixes to look at.

Feels like there's a countdown until Mitchell goes from 3x All Star to Disgruntled 3x All Star.
Drag out the trade talks and be willing to walk away. Utah's only going to lose leverage - a quick deal doesn't do us any good.

I'm still iffy on the trade, but I will say that Leon's regime has never gone over their perceived set value on the FA or trade market. I'm confident that Brock Aller won't get Timberwolved.

Up until now Rose has always had his price and while he's slightly offered beyond it, he still has a bottom line even if it means losing out (eg Gordon Hayward)- that's what I'm clinging to. But, he's never been tested like this- not only the prospect of getting a star but also one he has so many personal connections to, plus all the pressure from the media and Dolan and fans.
Of course Ainge may just be playing his usual games, or another team may swoop in. Who knows- I am preparing for/ talking myself into all possible outcomes!

well the question or test will be if they go forward anyway. He may say "this is a gross overpay for what this guy produces" and Leon and can say "Im doing it"
In many way this is the scenario we have been accumulating assets for... could be very long to play out though, and I do hope we dont do anything rash until we see these guys play together

Spida's value will drop after the Jazz miss the playoffs next season and then he will have 2 yrs left on his deal(as he will surely exercise his player option). They will want to move him before he has 1 yr left and he can scare teams off of moving anything significant as a 1 yr rental.
Rose should stick to the offer he is comfortable with and just allow Ainge leverage to gradually decline. Purse OG from Toronto, keep winning, create more leverage.
GustavBahler@ 7/15/2022 2:23 PM
Im hoping that signing Brunson, will be enough to fight the temptation for an overpay. If the Knicks had gone through free agency, empty handed. There might be more of a temptation to sign Mitchell.
The FO can walk away knowing that they made a significant move at PG this summer. No need to chase another FA to the point of giving away the store.
Edit: Mitchell isnt an FA yet, but same point
Chandler@ 7/15/2022 2:29 PM
i'm not sold on the trade but waiting until the trade deadline has its costs and risks too, e.g., what if we come out slow? there will be all the more pressure to move and Ainge will know it, and then if we do move midseason trades are risky -- it takes time for the new group to acclimate
of course the flip side is if the guys come out rolling we may question how much Donovan adds

There might be reasons, that have nothing to do with the SG. We really dont know whats broke yet, if anything.
This feels like a potentially very expensive fix to a problem we might not have. With long term implications.

You know what tho, Curry is their PG and Finals MVP. We have Brunson. Similar defense. However GS has Clay Thompson with the automatic 3 and super D to cover for Curry. We have Grimes who could be pretty much all that in a couple of years. Something Mitchell will never become. Just need to develop the youth. Grimes and Brunson are perfect together, just add water. Mitchell and Brunson not so much

The media seem to be universally pleading with us to pull this off no matter what the cost- bizarre! Even non-agenda folk like Windhorst- what’s going on?!
