On top of that, Knicks also had troubles at the C spot with Mitch taking 50+ games to get in shape and with Noel hurt all season.
In light of the improvements made by other teams in the least, how much do you think Brunson signing measures up? I'd 3-5 more wins, but there are a lot of variables there. I don't put any expectations on Rose at this stage in his career. But I expect Fournier to play better and RJ to make some improvements. IQ and Obi could also play better. I'd also expect this team to need time to gel in the early part of the season. This season could end up going in a number of directions. Maybe they should wait and see what they have before they make drastic changes to the roster?

If Randle rebounds a little and can give us 18-20 pts on solid shooting splits and limited TOs, I think we can see as much as 10-12 more wins.

Why do i think that this team being run by this competent FO will never land a superstar. The league wll look at the knicks as desperate suckers and will hike the price up a notch or two just because they are the knicks, but for once, they are run well and the will again exercise patience and will not cave in, which is the right thing to do, leaving this team seemingly stuck at the purgatory part of the rebuild. They can keep improving slowly through the draft but this process is painfully slow. The knicks need some luck on their side to make a draft based rebuild Ala Warriors and grizzlies to happen.

Best case scenario: 10-15 win improvement and 4th seed
Worst case scenario: 5-6 game improvement and play-in
Either way it’s hard to imagine us not being better next year. We have a functional starting pg now who can create passing lanes. Our young core guys have another year of experience
Jimbo5@ 7/18/2022 12:38 PM
I hope Brunson and Mitchell are paying close attention to the negativity and pessimism national media are throwing at the knicks. If the knicks are able to trade for Mitchell. With the help of Brunson and Mitchell playing with chips on their shoulders leading the knicks to a top 3 seed in the east and make a competative run at the 2nd round of the playoffs.

I think there's a reasonable chance these negotiations fall apart- Ainge has failed to pull off more trades than he has done successful ones. He was so busy trying to 'win' the Gordon Hayward trade with Indiana, he ended up blowing it and having him go to the Hornets rather than get back Miles Turner (who was exactly what they needed at C). But if that happens, it happens.

Basically said the status is:
Jazz and Knicks had talks last week, where Knicks laid out a sliding scale whereby the more players the Knicks would send out, the fewer picks, and the more picks they send out, the fewer players. Jazz said they want ALL the players AND all the picks. Now they've broken up while Jazz will go round the league canvassing D-Mitch's value. Thinks Knicks and Jazz will then like re-engage maybe this week, maybe next, maybe in 2 weeks.

Genuinely embarrassing watching Kellerman here, glad Hahn pushes back on the lame, tired, BS

But, Kellerman does sound like some of us too. To the point that DM won't bring a chip...... Which is true. Hahn is reasonable that we get relevant. I prescribe that you get DM and keep pushing the rock up the hill until we hit the ceiling. Would there not be trades to make also? We not lose all our picks, we still get some left. And Rokas of course! Kellerman is one voice and not incorrect. Its an annoying one. Hahn is another that says "We settling for 2nd round?" Missing is the intrigue of RJ. This kid trending better than Jimmy or Derozen and we just forget him?
One thing we might agree on is for Leon to not give up the dowry.

It's been said a few times on twitter and podcasts, but the Knicks are held to this bizarre, ever changing standard, that goes from "no one wants to sign/ go there", to instantly pivoting to "Ha! Well that doesn't make them an instant contender and is therefore a stupid move. What other non-playoff (or even play in) team has every move they make judged against whether it instantly makes them a championship contender?! Just ridiculous.
Seems like we've pretty much set out our stall and boundaries for a deal, and the Jazz will go fishing to see if they can top it, but we've pretty much said what our parameters are and given them a sliding scale to choose from. That's a very reasonable stance, that personally, I think is in tune with most Knick fans- is that what everyone else is finding among their Knick brethren? (ie go for it but don't over pay due to the scars of the Melo trade)

Sliding scale 😂Was that the true highlight of the off-season for Brock Aller?
Rose to the Nets (who then buy him out, allowing him to sign anywhere he likes, maybe a Bulls reunion) Horton-Tucker to the Nets $10mil
Nets send
Kyrie to the Lakers $37mil
Seems to work on trade machine, somehow…
The thing is, if we did this, we’d struggle to do future trades as we wouldn’t have the salary to put in deals (assuming we trade Fournier in a D-Mitch trade), plus if we lose Obi and Cam or Grimes in the D-Mitch trade, what’s the point?

I get it would be to shed salary and we’d buy out Westbrook, (we could even just do Rose and Randle for Westbrook), but we’d essentially be unable to do any deadline trades and be left very thin:
PG- Brunson SG- D-Mitch SF- RJ PF- no one? Cam? C - Mitch/ Hartenstein/ Sims
Rose to the Nets (who then buy him out, allowing him to sign anywhere he likes, maybe a Bulls reunion) Horton-Tucker to the Nets $10mil

Saw another theory that it could be part of a 3-way that allows the utah to move the salary they'd get from the Knicks and perhaps another player to the Lakers. They'd get another first-rounder from the Lakers (in 2030 😂) in the process.

And guess who would own their draft pick… plus Thibs will play that thin bench 42 minutes a night if he can get away with it

I don't think we're moving Randle, not unless we get some crazy offer
i think the knicks are banking on a rebound and frankly that's probably the smartest approach if you weigh risk/reward. We all got super frustrated with him -- me included big time. But of all Knicks possibilities the idea of Randle returning to all NBA form has the biggest impact for the team -- no matter what you want to do with him.
We treat him like an afterthought but let's remember D-Mitchell has not made all NBA.
fishmike@ 7/18/2022 5:14 PM
we are not moving Randle, he's our starting PF next year. He's just not getting moved.... not now.
Im just not trading for the farm here for this player. I would for a better fit like Brandon Ingram. DM is a legit all star but he's not generational guy. He's Booker.
I would offer: Obi + choice of (Grimes or IQ) + choice of (McBride or Reddish) + The Milw/Dallas/Det/Wash FRPs + choice of (Rokus or one of NYKs FRPs)
So 3 young players Obi, (Grimes or IQ), (McBride or Reddish) 4 FRPs and Rokus or 5 FRPs and no Rokus
Otherwise its a pass for me. I'll wait and stand pat.
