Reading between the lines here there’s probably a deal agreed upon between the Knicks and jazz but because there’s no rush or deadline prior to training camp, they are probably taking their time to see if they can pull in more teams to enhance the trade. Maybe Utah wants to offload more contracts or the Knicks are trying to get a rotation player back from another team and they want to lump in more teams to a larger deal. And they can take their time doing that as long as they have a baseline deal between just the two of them that they can fall back on if no other deals can be made with additional teams. That’s probably where this thing stands at the moment.

Again - likely just talk but he keeps responding to others inquiring with the same information. While I'm not a fan of this deal it does sound a little better have 2 pick swaps and moving Fournier in the process. If true - sucks about Grimes and would have thought IQ would be more replaceable.
Guess time will tell and I sure hope he's wrong about Obi :(
Including Toppin in this trade will be like a mule kick to the b****. Not only is he my fav player, and I think his off the ball skills would be a better fit next to Mitchell, Brunson and RJ, but this move would indicate that the Knicks are tripling down on the guy that gave the finger to the fans, his teammates, and coaches last season. It will take me a long time to get over it if Obi is included....
Anyone think there is a possibility this was another leak by the Jazz to put pressure on the Knicks FO?
Truth B Said ....The tandem of Brunson & D.Mitchell equal a no defense backcourt!
The tandem of Barrett & Randle equal no defense at either forward position!
Randle's fake leadership equals D.Mitchell's leadership.
The Knicks will be an under .500 season team having the above 4 players mention receiving the top playing time minutes in the rotation.
The only Players Knicks should give up are ..
Randle & Fournier's half court offense ..
Randle & Fournier's talents combine equal D.Mitchell's performance on offense.
Knicks could throw in a couple of first rounders in a three team trade and it's an even trade for the Knicks.
Why?
Randle's a half-court scorer, and if Randle can't control the ball on every offensive possession, he become useless on both side of the court.
D.Mitchell's a high scoring combo-guard who will perform best when sharing the ball in the back court alongside another high scoring combo-guard in transition or half-court offense, D.Rose team-leadership.

That sounds really good. Where do I sign up for the newsletter?
Head coach Quin Snyder or Thibs ???

This home coming stuff.. Brunson & Mitchell ties to NYC
Is all very nice storyline & hope.
However this rarely ever works out and
Especially in the mecca. The two talents will
Come here and find out New York is very hard to
Be period.
Wish I didn't feel like that but it hasn't worked
In NY history & NBA Knickerbockers are ripe for that
Fall $$$$$$$.
Alot of investment for failures pending

I actually think it was a leak by Mitchell’s agent. He really wants to come to the Knicks
Ultimately I think the nets and jazz do a Mitchell for KD swap

I agree. I think Toppin would have great chemistry with a Brunson/Mitchell backcourt as well as Mitchell Robinson would too
If Ainge wants 6 first rd picks fine but he needs to take back Randle

My thought process is that if they want all those picks they take EF and none of Obi, Quick and Grimes. If we trade Randle without trading EF our team will be severely imbalanced. I want Randle gone if he plays next season like he did last but I am down to give him another chance before I am ready to ship him out for no return like some others are willing to do. I just want his playing time reduced to 28 to 30 minutes so Obi can get some love.

My biggest issue with the Knicks possibly getting Mitchell is Randle can’t be here. That’s 3 ball dominant players in the starting lineup. Way too much. Maybe Randle can adjust but I really don’t know. I have more faith in Brunson who managed to coexist very nicely with Luka. Randle I just don’t see accepting a new role as a catch and shoot forward

This is my hope as well but with how pouty acted last year when he had a lesser role in the offense I am not sure he can handle it. I still remember after an amazing game vs CHI everyone on the team was happy but Randle was in his feelings.
If the knicks can somehow get Mitchell to NY i think they can exceed everyone's expectations. If Rose guts the roster they can still reach the playoffs by Thibs letting the starting 5 play 35plus minutes a night and just like 2 years ago without a bench they will flame out in the playoffs. I think the biggest surprise will be how well the Jalen-Don backcourt will hold up on defense. I think Mitchell has a chance to rediscover his defense under thibs.
I saw the 1st round pick heavy trade package of Ian Begley, il be happy if it comes to that only youth casualty is Deuce. As for the picks at their age, they will be set for the next decade even without much 1st rounders. But what gives me hope is the ability of this FO to find good players later in the draft.
If this is the Avenue we’re going to go
Then we should stay with outline begley put forth.
I think I can accept 6 draft picks IF we keep obi iq and grimes
That leaves us w experienced youth for depth and hedges against sucking.
I can give up McBride reddish and 6 picks. That’s fair for the jazz. But that’s the line in the sand. We can’t make up a new breed of trade that forces teams to give up such gross compensation just to get a deal done. We’re paying more than any other team has ever paid. You can’t outbid that?
So deal or no deal
I'm beginning to think this trade isn't going to happen and it was never really that close to begin with.
I believe that, after the Gobert trade, Knicks brass did their due diligence and inquired about D. Mitchell...maybe suggested a hypothetical trade...and it somehow got leaked and it grew legs through social media, most likely, through D. Mitchell camp.
I think that if the Jazz are presented with an "offer they can't refuse", they will definitely take it but they are perfectly fine with resetting the button WITH D.Mitchell because, at the end of the day, he is still a young top tier PG/SG and that would be hard to replace.
And honestly, besides the heavily protected draft picks the Knicks have, Knicks don't have anything worth while. To make salaries work, the Knicks will need to add either Randle or Fournier. Adding Randle makes zero sense for the Knicks because it creates another problem at the PF position and for the Jazz, it gives them a player with a long contract (they might as well keep Mitchell) and I'm assuming that, along with draft capital, they also trying to cut cost.
Adding Fournier doesn't make much sense for the Knicks because we lose our best outside threat and the Jazz don't need him since they have Bojan Bogdanovic, although I'll admit, Bogdanovic is an easy player to move due to his productivity and expiring contract but I would imagine that the Jazz would want to hold on to that 20mil expiring contract
......Yeah. I don't think this is happening
Knicksblog was a thing ages a go. Maybe Tommy has some sources? At the very least, it's something.

Tommy Dee has been notorious for years/decades as having no sources and being wrong about most things, from what I remember!

Yeah, I remember his insider knowledge being sketchy. A broken clock is right at least 2x a day. Maybe this is Tommy's moment?

I hope not because the trade he said is the one we are doing sucks.
I think this trade may be dead money. No reason for the Knicks to overpay— they already know the price others can pay. So if it’s there prepare for a long slog —- that honestly makes the most common sense especially w kid still available. If I’d goes to an asset rich trade than Mitchell’s value might even drop by default
