That's really record level incompetence. Kudos.
Fans read that. Dumping Randle makes little sense. I want to see him with A PG on a balanced roster.

I agree.
And if they wanted out on the contract i should hope they could find something of decent value coming back this way rather than a $45m contract year they would have to eat. That's just stupidity.

Dude has a 15% trade kicker……….
Since most of us are spitballing and have our own “I want DM as long as we keep XXXXX player, I’ll throw out one that is messed up:
I have a faith that this FO is fastidiously detailed and won’t over pay. That don’t mean we don’t like the deal but its not going to be the starphucks of the past. But there is a line.
There are other teams that really need to do somthing. KD from nets, Ben Simmons is cockblocking DM to them, and lakers are in a bad spot with Westbrook.
I can’t solve it all. Also PHX can’t come back without any changes. Somewhere they need to figure a way to get KD on that team. They lose Cam Johnson, picks, and Bridges.
Ben simmons can’t stay on BKN. or Kyrie KD. Some where there is a place where KD can stay. Not with those two, or at least with both……..
My lead up……..Ben Simmons restoration project on NY. And we don’t give up alot to get him. DM gets to Nets. Sorry guys, Kyrie Gets to Lakers for Westbrook but someone has to facilitate. PHX is left out in the cold but maybe the play is they get a bought out westbrook and he comes off the bench.
Lets focus on Ben Simmons. What he is: Allstar, good passer, great defense. WE know he is a head case, no long range shot, and unknown inury status. Paired with Brunson its got potential.
Basically we get him for Fornier, two picks, and IQ. Seems like a lot, but what the fuck are we going to do with all those picks and our yoot?
Can’t see a championship team? Of course not. WE are not one. But other things can happen and slowly you have tradable players. Again, Ben Simmons is a restoration project. Its not what he has been, its what can he become. Now, if coaches and Scouts say no, then its no. I know he had a bad ending in PHilly and the back thing could be legit. If so, we pass.
All our yoot has to also get paid in two years as well. We can’t keep them all.
I like all our young guys. But they are not great and I want others to come and get chances also.
Tank. Utah has the all star game.. The world will be watching. Is Ainge really going to put them in a tank for the French kid where the worst three teams have just a 14% chance of landing the no. 1 pick? Use an obnoxious haul to move up in the draft a spot or two to pick a generational talent if he is that? I don’t know.
But I dont’t us desperate to get DM. Thats old nonsense.
We got here with doing lots of fastidious deals that added up. I said for years knicks need to create luck by increasing opportunities, That is DM. That is also 100 other things.
I dont’ love giving up swaps unless protected.

I'd rather try a restoration project with Frank N or DSjr before I would try with Ben Simmons.
I was sold last year he could be a gamble worth taking. Before the deadline. I thought he would help the Nets, but he never played. How could he be hurt still? He hadn't played in a year's time. Was the struggle last playoffs injury related? Is there a proper diagnosis?
If wealth and celebrity is his motivations he will continue to sink. At some point maturity might kick in and comes a time in a mans life he has to prove himself.
I don’t know him or his health either in his back or in his head. He’d have to give in to be coached by a taskmaster that is Thibs and earn the respect of his team. Have to take risks if you want to leapfrog others.
Nalod wrote:simmons has proven illogical at many levels. From what I have read his talent is vast and he like many have not paid the dear price as many have to reach such levels.

Here is the other thing with Simmons - I did not know his contract- the rookie designated item- basically limited who and how you can trade him. Another no thank.

Obviously this is an entirely speculative thing based on DM not being here and we essentially get paid to take him as it facilitates a bigger trade for others. In a world were we move Drose to Chicago where he is home, gets love, and does his swan song for a year or so. Also EF, whom I do like is sent out to a team that would play him. This opens up Grimes playing a bit more. To start? Not right away but Simmons would be bought along slowly and there would be setbacks with him. Nalod does not see a perfect path for Simmons, perhaps even a season long process. If successful it results on both Ben and Grimes gaining time, confidence and trade value if need be.
Thibs signature defense has greater possibilities to achieve.
How fun would an onflor line up of
Cam
IQ
Simmons
Obi
IHart
Yes, Simmons is a head case, coming off injury, and flaked out. Im looking forward and if there is path to redemption and pride, and im talking some real shit, not “tell the media/fans what they want to hear” kind of thing then Maybe.
Im talking a upfront non bindable promise:
1. No idiot sideline outfits when out injured.
2. No kardashians.
3. Work outs with Randle on the road.
4. No social media
5. Don’t buy a restaurant
6. You win in Philly by winning in Philly!!! They will boo you, but make them respect your game.
7. Get a tatoo of Doc Rivers on your ass. Look at it every day and get angry.
Play well and NYC will love you. Even Brooklyn!!!!
Nets are a dysfunctional mess right now. I dont know if Simmons presence is an issue for KD or Kyrie. Seems Kyrie has enough in his orbit. I can’t speak for what is in KD’s mind and why he wants out or wants fixed if he stays.
Knicks intense asset base makes them prime to make deals and facilitate for others. Brock Aller in his lab coming up with all kinds of crazy shit. Maybe something like this can work. Trust me fellas, its a long shot and Simmons character is not a good leading indicator.
Fact is I like when young players grow up and face their maturity. Kobe had a long string of immature on and off court issues and eventually he grew in stature. But he asked for trades, he rebelled against his coach, arrested and settled a Rape charge, lost his wife for long time, and came way back from all that. Lebron is not liked by many here but his on court performance for 20 years is incredible, the string of finals is impressive, and like him or not he is in the convo as perhaps 1 or 2 of the Goat. Off the court he remains pretty solid, very philanthropic and will speak his mind on social events. Somthing Jordan would not.
Simmons is not in this talent sphere but I’d like to see him EARN HIS WAY to respect. If he does, cool as a knick. But where ever I’d like to see it. If not, he got his money and maybe finds another path after his career is over.

Great news. It means we will not be get fleeced by Ainge. The other teams who looking into a trade don't matter since their assets can't compare. The Lakers trade talk makes me believe that if we trade for Mitchell the FO does not think Randle fits the team anymore. I actually don't think he fits now but that is another story. Every time I think of Obi playing with a real PG and Mitchell I envision so many wide open dunks due to all the attention they will get and their willingness to pass it to the open man.
Since it looks like the FO does not want to give up players and picks I hope they are going along the offseason like they are expecting everyone back. This is going to be a very important season with or without Mitchell.

Grimes might turn out to be a very reliable 3&D player, Obi can be special... or both may not turn out to br those. What if the knick FO pivots and try to geta different 2 or 3. Is there a way the FO can convince the Heat to trade them Tyler Herro for Randle and 2 1st? Herro is no Mitchell but he still averaged 20pts last year. Lesser cost and the knick can look at thier youth a little longer. Who are other SG or SF that are young and about to break out?
IQ no longer having to be a pg could be a 6th man of the year candidate next season

FO has to ask themselves, do you see Fournier and Randle being key cogs in a deep playoff team vs holding on to the extra picks/youngins Utah would want.
And then you factor in the salaries of Fournier and Randle 2-3 years out against the roster as a whole and who is on the market. NBA TV deal ends in 2024 and salary cap will skyrocket and perhaps without smoothing over the course of multiple years.
If the Lakers are somehow willing to move THEIR 2027 and/or 2029 picks - while getting the salaried players THEY want in the hopes that LeBron extends - in place of the Knicks' picks and/or the Knicks young players, then you think about moving Randle/Fournier/Rose/Cam.

Think our fan base is stuck with the rebuilding mindset. Not realizing we have been trying to rebuild since 2014. We were the 4th seed with Randle and much less in 2020. We need to keep going forward. Think Rose will only get rid of Randle if he gets a better, higher impact player in return.
No way he will do it to sacrifice this year for cap space and picks. Imo
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2022/07/jazz...While they continue to gauge Donovan Mitchell‘s value on the trade market, the Jazz could offer some combination of veterans like Mike Conley ($22.68MM), Bojan Bogdanovic ($19.55MM), Jordan Clarkson ($13.34MM), and Rudy Gay ($6.18MM) in a deal for Westbrook and draft picks. Malik Beasley and Patrick Beverley are also potential Utah trade candidates who have eight-figure cap hits, though neither can be aggregated in a trade until September 6.

Phil came in and talked about rebuilding , while adding good vets. And quickly flushed that plan , when he traded ROLO, and brought in Rose/Noah to start.
We are successfully rebuilding. We re-signed Mitch. Thats a franchise record, lol. Looks like RJ will be brought back as well. Thats rebuilding. I would argue it began during Fizdale's first season, when the FO soon into the season realized that this squad wasnt going anywhere. Started to shed contracts and tanked for the pick which would be Barrett.
We have more good, young players on the roster, than we've seen in years. As long as we dont clean house of all younger players, I'd say the rebuild has been going well for the last 4 years, through two regimes.

Shams is clearly Ainges stooge when it comes to reporting in the D-Mitch trade, basically a press release for him- says essentially Ainge will accept the Knicks offer when they include 6-8 picks AND Obi, IQ AND Grimes. He can shove it!
