Click here to view the TweetGreat news. It means we will not be get fleeced by Ainge. The other teams who looking into a trade don't matter since their assets can't compare. The Lakers trade talk makes me believe that if we trade for Mitchell the FO does not think Randle fits the team anymore. I actually don't think he fits now but that is another story. Every time I think of Obi playing with a real PG and Mitchell I envision so many wide open dunks due to all the attention they will get and their willingness to pass it to the open man.
Since it looks like the FO does not want to give up players and picks I hope they are going along the offseason like they are expecting everyone back. This is going to be a very important season with or without Mitchell.
Shams is clearly Ainges stooge when it comes to reporting in the D-Mitch trade, basically a press release for him- says essentially Ainge will accept the Knicks offer when they include 6-8 picks AND Obi, IQ AND Grimes. He can shove it!

Shandon Anderson gets no love?
I kind of want to see how Toppin and Robinson work with Brunson. I’ve long said that both just need a solid PG to blossom.
I am pretty low on Barrett and Randle right now. Mostly because their usages are high and their efficiency are low. Their willingness to defend keeps them in my conversation. Conversely, Fournier’s efficiency is high but his defense is suspect. Kind of wish there was a simple fix. I don’t think putting Fournier next to Brunson on defense is a great idea.
Otherwise, I like that the youths may get more minutes. I think they should consolidate a little somewhere amongst the guards.
Kind of want to see Cam get some run.
But mostly, I don’t want to hamstring the Knicks in wheeling and dealing. They have been adding good value and want to keep giving them the chance to do so.

See….I would lean one way. Then I read a post like this and I’m back the other way.
Knicks and this FO has given us a healthy system of picks, yoots while competitive enough to make the playin. We are on the best position we’ve ever been in from what I remember with our balance of vets and yoots and picks and flexibility.

Do McBride, Reddish, and Sims need or deserve any court time?
As is, a projected rotation of:
Brunson Rose
Fournier IQ
Barrett Grimes
Randle Toppin
Robinson Hartenstein
already skimps on minutes for a lot of those guys. If all the starters average 32 minutes, the bench guys only get 16. Of course there will be injuries and missed games but as is a trade where we turn 3 of those ten into D Mitchell makes sense. Thing is, there's not really much pressure for the Knicks because they comfortably control everyone's contracts for the next two seasons. There's also not a huge downside to doing that. The Knicks can use the first half of the season to see what they have. If Brunson, Barrett, Randle are playing 36 minutes and Rose is playing 25, someone else won't be getting much court time and could be a trade candidate.
And none of the 6 SG mention below has the talent or skills to play the (SF) forward position.
1) Barrett
2) Fournier
3) Quickley (combo guard)
4) Grimes
5) Keels
And D.Mitchell also are a SG (combo-guard)
After the ending-contract Keven Knox & future first round pick trade for Cam Reddish, do you really want the same person to work out a trade for a super-star D.Mitchell with grimy Ainge ???

RJ is a small forward. He’s been playing out of position as a 2 guard

I think RJ is a SF.
Keels has looked as bad as any rookie we drafted in a long time. He is more likely to be waived than make our actual team.
Quick had a bad year overall but post all star break made a huge jump. I am not ready to trust him with the keys yet. I do see the potential though.
Grimes is a 3 and D that is looking to expand his game. He could start but it would be more like the starting PGs on a Lebron team. The fit for the team is more of the reason why instead of him being a legit NBA starter right now.
Mitchell is an upgraded EF. Smaller in size but way better player.
The most important reason why is because we need someone to be able to score when our team goes in our droughts we always go in. Randle did that for us that one year. However, he will not be able to replicate making all those contested mid range shots again.

My take is last season he did not make all those contested shots as his selection was not the same as the year before. He had more open looks. Not sure the stat equates my eye test.
Keels will be assigned to Gleague. He is 18. And its summer league. He got measured and now has his homework assignment. Im not saying he makes it or not, but you don’t draft a child, then blow him out because of a few games. He is a project.

We burned a 1st round draft pick on Reddish. Would love to see if he can tp into his potential get an actual return on our investment.

McBride is a development project. His defense should have him in discussions for court time anywhere. I don't love anyone with a midrange game mostly because I think midrange is just inefficient. I think Kerr has the right of this eFG analysis. So, his offense needs work and he needs to continue to get stronger, but I really have him in the Marcus Smart category of players and would love to hold on for that reason. Whether he needs immediate time or not is questionable now that he has Brunson and Rose to practice against.
Reddish is an enigma. He has the physical tools to be a fantastic defensive wing and showed elements of that in ATL in his early seasons. Injury has kept him off the court and lost his spot in the rotation. He needs a strong training camp to break into Thib's rotation and I am not sure whether he is working in the offseason. I have no knowledge of it. His 3pt isn't that sharp. I'd probably err on the side of giving him minutes and see what shakes out. For me, 22-23 is a good season to take risks and see what's available in the draft. If we ball out and make the playoffs, great. If we hit the lottery cause our inefficient shooters are still inefficient shooters, well, I hope then we are really really bad and not just middling.
Sims is a perfect guy to be third in the rotation. Maybe Hart sees time at the PF and Sims get some minutes as backup. He is developing and I am glad he got his contract he should see sporadic minutes while most of his work is done with the coaches.

Not seeing much out there…FO has to ask themselves, do you see Fournier and Randle being key cogs in a deep playoff team vs holding on to the extra picks/youngins Utah would want.
And then you factor in the salaries of Fournier and Randle 2-3 years out against the roster as a whole and who is on the market. NBA TV deal ends in 2024 and salary cap will skyrocket and perhaps without smoothing over the course of multiple years.
If the Lakers are somehow willing to move THEIR 2027 and/or 2029 picks - while getting the salaried players THEY want in the hopes that LeBron extends - in place of the Knicks' picks and/or the Knicks young players, then you think about moving Randle/Fournier/Rose/Cam.
Think our fan base is stuck with the rebuilding mindset. Not realizing we have been trying to rebuild since 2014. We were the 4th seed with Randle and much less in 2020. We need to keep going forward. Think Rose will only get rid of Randle if he gets a better, higher impact player in return.
No way he will do it to sacrifice this year for cap space and picks. ImoPhil came in and talked about rebuilding , while adding good vets. And quickly flushed that plan , when he traded ROLO, and brought in Rose/Noah to start.
We are successfully rebuilding. We re-signed Mitch. Thats a franchise record, lol. Looks like RJ will be brought back as well. Thats rebuilding. I would argue it began during Fizdale's first season, when the FO soon into the season realized that this squad wasnt going anywhere. Started to shed contracts and tanked for the pick which would be Barrett.
We have more good, young players on the roster, than we've seen in years. As long as we dont clean house of all younger players, I'd say the rebuild has been going well for the last 4 years, through two regimes.
Phil had the right idea. Just too caught up in the past and wrong guy for the part. Draft picks did not work out.
Not complaining about where we are. Like where we are.
Think FO is doing a good job. Feel part of a rebuild is to add solid proven young players after building through draft. Feel Randle was the first. Think Brunson is good. Although a bit pricey. Feel next stage is to add a difference maker. DM is that. Just think we should use the Melo lesson and maybe get one in FA and not by gutting our youth. Which, imo, would be anything that gives up Grimes, IQ, RJ and multiple future picks.
I would be happy seeing what a "True" PG does with what we have. If we were able to get the 4 spot with much less, feel we can be real competitive with what we have.
Simms gets run if injury happens. and it does. He can still work on his game too!
Reddish will get an opportunity. Here or as a trade chip. At 22 it made sense to bring him in as his chances are still better than a undefined low 1st or 2nd round pick. We are rich with them at the moment and there/was a window to work with him.
If knicks move to the 50 game space and Brunson is "all that", NYC hype can elevate to an allstar nod. not far fetched is it?
Im not writing off Randle based on him offending me by response to the boo, or his salty attitude. Kid is a monster and I suspect with his contract and some couch time he'll be more coachable. The work ethic still there? The intensity? the good team guy? is that really all gone? We'll see.
The next big thing? RJ? I know what I saw last year and that was some elite shit he was putting up. The bar got higher. Glass is half full now.
This trio is now married to MitchRob who has elite abilities. Can he hit a 10 foot jumper? Catch the ball besides when he is flying? Will he be content with is money and stagnate? WE'll see!!!
I see RJ as a 3, so we got Grimes or DM at the 2.
how it shakes out is upon Leon and Danny Ainge to figure it out.

If a non Knick fan were to read that line they would think it was hyperbole. The sad part is that was reality.

How is that impressive? What great trades and massive hauls has he really pulled off? He's taken advantage if a couple of moron GMs a couple of times but I'm not very impressed overall- he's blown more than he's made
