Knicks · What’s your move if we are 5-15 after 20 games? (page 3)

Kemet, if the knicks players are so bad at defense, why did they finish with a rating of 11th in the league over all?
Does that not speak to the coach? Effort both as a team and individually? That is about EF, that is about the yoot, its all baked in. This includes Randle sulking, Randle turning his cheek at the dude with the laptop, him shushing the crowd. Its all there.
Why does Randle individually rank 18th? Some of it could be flawed and we can find holes in some of it. But the same ranking has Rudy no.1.
Seems to me the issue is offense. After all, still have to outscore the opponent to win games. That has not changed.

The knicks had a decent front-court defense from MitchRob & Taj Gibson last season.
And Quickley & Obi transition performance preyed on weak backcourts last season to outscore opponents.
Yes, the Knicks were missing two players from being a 6th seeded playoff team ..
Bullocks multi-position defense, and D.Rose creative closer performance.

All I can remember is Bullock being shut out of the Hawks playoff series by Trae Young standing next to him. And then, the next season, he wanted all 3 years of his contract guaranteed. See ya!

Reggie was asked to wait until we finished our business then we could sign him.
His business did not mesh with ours and he signed in Dallas. It happens.

Also, every Knicks player that was resigned was on a 2 year guarantee with 3rd year team option. Bullock was given 2.5 year guarantee and a trade kicker with the chance to play with Doncic. As you said, he made best business decision for himself.

And so did Brunson

So true !!!
Randle & Barrett performance missed Bullocks chemistry and defensive leadership last season.
I missed Bullocks hustle on both sides of the court .. plus being the only Knicks starter, no one criticize in the 2020-21 season !!!

“No one”? Fans or media?
Randle was 3rd team all NBA enroute to an unprobable 4th seed.
Fan reaction to media or is media drive to push media?
Your Bullock fandom running hot these days. Has RJ’s offensive monthly splits not warmed your heart just a bit?

You could probably work something out with the Suns.

Ayton and Crowder for Mitch and Julius maybe?

Widely discussed and maybe in PHX wheelhouse given its Ayton situation. They did not view him as a max player but with new majority owner taking over the direction of team could change.
Have to say the optics out of their camp does not promote a simpatico among Ayton and coach Monty.
Trade after January is something to look for.
As for us? Lets see how the chemistry comes together and Randle bounces back or not. Being objective if randle is kicking ass but the outlook is better with a core of Ayton-RJ-Brunson with Obi still upside that could be interesting.
Im not in disgust of Randle as some are but I see Ayton as an upgrade to Mitch and while Obi is not were Randle is thats a price to pay and hope the potential keeps showing.

Phx has a lot of question marks.

Bullock so overrated by Knicks fans.

Can’t see that happening unless the suns fall apart this year. Maybe the exhibition loss to the Australian team is a portent of things to come? The will soon be sold for $3-4 billion I doubt the new owner will want to come in and immediately blow it up

Charlotte should be winnable but the 7 after that will be a tough slate. Just have to take it a game at a time. No easy wins in October.

TheGame @ 10/25/2022 5:16 AM
If we beat the Hornets and then the Bucks on Friday, we would be 4-1, with our only loss to a tough Memphis team on their home court in a game we took to overtime. If we had won that game, we would be first place in the eastern conference and second place in the entire league. It is still too early to tell but it is starting to look like this may be the season we were expecting from the Knicks last year.

Adding Brunson really making a big difference so far. This team looks so different with a competent full time pg. the offense is fluid, there’s much more transition scoring, the players actually look like they are having fun

martin @ 10/25/2022 7:20 AM
DRose literally is taking his time to find his groove, that may be very good thing - give IQ some quality minutes as main PG off bench

Totally agree. The Brunson signing looks like a steal at this point.

There will be games were we move the ball and go cold.
There will be games were the other team will dictate what happens on the court.
They are having fun winning.
They lost to memphis in OT. They came back from 19pts.
All good signs.
Add, RJ is not shooting well but his playmaking and rebounding is good. He also is defending there best players.
I think last year he had license to do what ever he now has to account for ball movement. He is making plays, but I suspect he doubts some instances to shoot and its something he has to play thru. Trading him is silly thought.
Randle not freaking out on bad calls and mentally checking out. This is huge. Randle passing. Randle cutting. Randle defense. All improved. Multi tool player. Letting the game come to him will decide what he does is not a bad thing.
I don’t understand “trading him”. Are we to think he’ll revert back to the “dark side”?
Good take on whom ever said Brunson is CP3 Lite! He is in prime “Russell Wilson” like. Not tall, sneaky strong, cool personality and gets it done.

“Thibs did not want Cam”. That was January. The kid is playing into the rotation and a reasonable contract. Not sure its here but thats 79 games to figure out. He is buying into this opportunity. Who said Thibs does not develop players? This team is all about that:

Mitch
Simms
RJ
OBI
Quickly
Grimes

All Thibs guys.

But we all know “Winter Is Coming”! We had a soft preseason and our schedule has yet to test. This is the NBA, can’t take any team for granted nor that our guys will execute every night.
