I personally do not expect this scenario but good team managers are on the hook for any scenario
Depends on why. Injuries to key players means you have to ride it out until they get back. Lack of chemistry with the starters, try a different lineup. Coaching not where it should be, let Thibs finish out the season, give him a chance to right the ship. Not considered proper to hire a new coach mid-season. Would have to be an asst.
Dont believe tanking right after signing Brunson is the way to go. If the FO wants to attract more talent. It was the right move to draft RJ, but that was when the team had few picks, and no building blocks, to build a team around.
I hope it's unlikely, but then these are the Knicks.
Depends how they got there? Close games or blow outs?
Injuries or chemistry? Is it Randle pouting?
I think this FO has shown incredible acumen at running/building this team. Unlike years past, firing Rose is not in the cards.
If it's injuries, you just got to roll with it.
If it's Randle or RJ - I'd look to trade either if you could.
I should add- at some point, I'm moving on as a fan. Too long, too bad, too many super rich divas (Dolan, etc)

The polar opposite of the optimism thread...........
we start out 5-20 I agree, it depends on why. Naturally blame will have to be satisfied right?
Lets go thru the usual suspects:
1. If the starting lineup is filled with vets. Blame it on Thibs not playing the kids.
2. if he is playing the kids, then Thibs obviously sucks and must be replaced by anyone who conceptually can do better.
3. Its injuries. Blame Thibs for over playing who ever is hurt.
4. Randle. Blame Thibs for not playing Obi. Obi is not the answer but Thibs must be accountable to Briggs.
5. Hype. Brunson is not Iverson.
6. Money. Brunson and RJ need to play up to the contracts.
7. The Rain. Blame it on the Rain.
Injuries? Chemistry? Strength of schedule? Whose playing well and who can be traded.
If need be, tilt to the tank and go young. At what point?
We should stick with it, what have you got to lose?
I dont think happens but they fire Thibs
I probably start making spreadsheets to envision what the 2023 offseason looks like if we clear cap space. Not that there are many FAs left.
I’m starting a trade Randle thread

You’ll be late to the game by about 19 games

hasn't this become a trade Randle, and most importantly, also a fire Thibs thread.

here is one hypothetical- let's say our back court is getting killed on the defensive end- Fournier and Brunson- maybe you swap Brunson GRIMES in for the starting line up. I mean it's so hard to diagnose a theoretical.
But I think I agree with you largely- we're not firing anyone and we're not trading anyone. 20 games in, the only changes are line up/rotation based.

I think 20 games is an important point in hoop. 25% of season done with a very decent size look at the team. Remember we traded for rose 24 games in and he changed the whole season.
If the Knicks are 8-12 to 5-15 in the up coming season .. means the Knicks are not making the playoffs, and all blame goes to Leon Rose & Tom Thibs not being on the same-page for two seasons in a row.
Leon Rose has been clueless of what Reggie Bullocks brang to the Knicks starter lineup, and what Taj Gibson brang to the bench players. The Knicks job is way above Leon Rose capabilities, Ainge prove that.
After 3 seasons of Randle & Barrett chaos in the starter lineup, both players should've been traded this offseason for their non-chemistry performance alongside teammates.
Last season the Knicks had a 11-9 record when coach Thibs took Kemba out the rotation to have a 3-7 record in Dec., Jan., and February too. Should've been FIRED at end of season.
The Knicks 30 minutes of playing time starters ....
Brunson = poor defense
Fournier = poor defense
Barrett = lazy defense
Randle = no defense
MitchRob = The only player screening/picking/boxing-out/and playing top defense
Don't change anything and get my Wembanyama jersey ready!
This year's trade deadline will probably be the busiest in NBA history.
There are too many good teams this year, more than ever before.
There will be a lot of sellers with disappointing seasons.
There could be opportunities there to trade perhaps an expiring for a nice rotation piece.
easy... follow it up by going 25-5
duh
I wouldn't be surprised if there are stretches during this season where we do go 5-15 but also 12-8. We have .500 talent in a very competitive conference. Injuries will play a huge role this season. Remember we caught a lot of breaks during the 6th seed season two years ago. We'll need the same type of breaks and have stars sit out some games. I also think us winning the home games against teams in our weight class is huge. Can't lose home games to teams like Orlando, Toronto and Washington.

Fishmike is my nomination to replace Berman. Need a positive beat writer in the Knicks media.
Looking at the schedule, I predict.....
That we will go 9-11
Knick fans will "start Obi" / "Fire Thibs" chants after the first home loss.
UK forum will have 17 "trade Randle" threads 16 "trade Fournier threads" and 10 "Brunson not as good as we thought threads". All not coming close to the 25 "start our yoot" threads and 35 "2023 draft prospect" threads started by Briggs.

Throw in the dozen or so cries to tank and you have it covered there!
