Also, does it matter if he's LABELED a star or not? What matters is his fit with the team and how that impacts RJ and Randle. Labels come with time and experience.

If JB helps Randle reach All Star level play, we might have to trade Obi / Cam. Not sure how we can have both, unless Obi signs a super cheap contract where he only get minimal mins behind Randle.
But I believe Brunson has the potential to be a stable force as the PG of the future for the knicks. And Mitch Rob with Hart solidifies our Center position. I love how this FO just locked down the two most important positions on the floor for several years. It's been a while since I could say that about a knicks team.

Stars can take over a game, by themselves, at a consistent basis.
JB came in to the garden and looked meh. He had a couple of games where he looked like a star,without LD's help, in the playoffs. He would have to do that A LOT more to be considered a star.
Keep in mind, on a team like the Knicks he will be focussed on more defensively then when he played alongside one of the best players on the planet
upside of this sighing is he's our version of Kyle Lowry. At his absolute peek with a good team he was a 2nd round exit, but + Kawhi and they get a chip. Lowry stabilized that franchise with leadership on both sides of the ball. You hope we get a run like that

Steve nash was mvp twice. While he isnt going to have 10-12 assists---and what will differentiate him from lowry etc.. is Brunson is an efficient player. Lets let in play out.
The Brunson signing makes the team significantly better and the Hartenstein signing also looks very good. The Knicks are a better team this season. I'm looking forward to watching them.

Only a couple of teams have won with an elite PG. Kyrie won as an SG with LeBron playing the point. Mostly about the pct of the cap spent on a star PG, making it difficult to add enough talent to contend. Brunson got paid, but his salary doesnt keep the Knicks from building a contender.
I don't think of Brunson as a star, but he turns what was a weak position for us into a strength which makes the team much better.
I can just see how the faithful are going to start clamoring to trade him as soon as he has one subpar preseason game.
Honestly, if I were the league, I would ban broadcasts of preseason games altogether. They only get fans overly excited over nothing.

Curry?
Kidd and Curry playing PG are the only exceptions I can think of. For the last 20 plus years. Dirk routinely took less to attract talent. I believe Curry did at some point as well.
Brunson isnt making superstar money, so Im confident the FO can add at least one star, in their prime, without affecting depth.

He has the best footwork out of any PG in the league and has a super high percentage in the Paint and mid range. He’s also one of the smartest basketball players in the league and has won at every level . It’s like when harden left OKC or when TMac left the raptors … this guy is an absolute stud. I have no doubts that he becomes a star player in NY.

I agree that he doesn’t have to be a star for this team to be successful, but the potential is there.
Watching what he did in the playoffs this past year was special, and now that he’s not in the shadow of Luka,he has the keys to the offense, he has a huge ceiling to stardom, hopefully he reaches that!

The Jerome James comedy stop was one of the few highlights in a dismal season. Big Snack was a HOFer if the Hall of Fame ever had a bloopers wing.
