He really is such a unique player. His description doesn’t read like a star player. He doesn’t have those buzzy words associated with his style of play. “savvy”, “crafty” and “steady” don’t scream star. But what do you call a player who is going to score consistently and efficiently whenever he wants, make plays for others without turning the ball over at all, and be a go-to scorer in crunch time? Knicks got a good one. An unorthodox star.
He is definitely the most important player in terms of wins. Having a steady PG guard is going to win us games that we lost last year due to sloppy play in the 4th quarter.
Hahn during the post game observed that Brunson plays calm and that has carried over to the rest of the team.
I think Brunson, RJ and Julius are equally as important for different reasons but Brunson being that heady player we needed for a long time definitely really jumps out at you. He doesn’t even always need awesome stats to play well. He just needs to get to his spots, make the right decisions and be efficient. I’m really glad we have him.
When you have a player like Brunson, you don't need anyone to play the Hero and dominate the ball and limit the offensive flow.
The calming effect Brunson has had on Randle is palpable, he is not forcing like he did last year and letting the game come to him.
Everyone is doing their part by playing hard, with purpose, and trusting each other.
This is a much more complete team with Brunson.
I really liked the postgame interview where he would not celebrate the win and indicated it was a good start but they have to keep improving... He has a terrific attitude
I can't wait to see how the chemistry, culture, and players develop this season.

In terms of free agent signings, Amare is the most memorable because he was already a superstar, but obviously his major impact was really short-lived. The Brunson signing is very comparable to Allan Houston as far as adding a younger player who is sort of just turning the corner of a breakout and fits the culture the Knicks are trying to accomplish so well.

After 2 games might be premature. Some pundits did say it was the best off season signing by any team. THat I can agree.
Best ever for knicks? Could be. H20 was a good one. Money aside, he was very good. He was 25 when he signed here. Hindsight injury history perhaps inhibited his career trajectory. Lets see in a few years how Brunson pans out. Good to be enthusiastic this early!
Im guessing that Brunson will move the needle more than Houston. He did all of his damage from the perimeter. Brunson is a threat from everywhere.

I’d say Brunson is the perfect QB for this system. He has star abilities, and can keep the pressure off Randle and Barrett, he’s smart and knows when to dish or score. I think he makes us hard to beat, I don’t see us losing a lot of blow out loses. Our team is DEEP and if rose stays healthy to anchor our kids in the second unit. This team should make the playoffs .
Brunson is the best Pg this team has had in a long time the closest we had was marbury, but he wasn’t like Brunson and he definitely didn’t have a rose anchoring the second unit. so I think you’d have to go back all the way to mark jackson and rod Strickland 1988.
I’d have to agree that all considered Brunson is the most important player on this team, with Rose a close second. They both have a ton of weapons at there disposal.
I don't think he is the 'most talented', but he is certainly 'talented and maximizing every ounce of his talent'
he is much better than I thought he was, I am happy he is here, I really like his brand of ball. In today's NBA, PGs are all pretty much score first... I kinda hate it. He is a throwback and I am about that
Brunson's a student of the game. He'a smart and he's a leader. Besides being a good player, he has the intangibles the Knicks have needed at pg.

It can’t hurt that even though he just got here, he has a ton of support from day one. Team President, head coach, his dad, back up PG and mentor, his college buddy. You couldn’t script this story any better

That is also not a bad thing, in fact I think it ends up being the strength of the team. They are all signed long term and you can already see them playing for each other. We have already seen Mitch get more post ups in 2 games than the prior 3 years. Brunson and Randle are already making sick passers to cutters in the half court. There is a much different attitude this year and its very positive.
Back to Brunson... not our best player but easily one of the highest IQ players in the league. What that means is he's really going to elevate guys around him because he's always making the right play. Randle/RJ are the best all around players on the roster, but their scoring is not EFF% enough and either that improves OR you get help. Hopefully we get both, as Brunson and IHart are massive offensive upgrades from last year and we already see them taking pressure of RJ/Randle to get a volume of shots off.
Brunson is also a perfect fit for Thibs. Those core 4 guys and Thibs all look like great fits. Honestly that group should win a lot of regular season games because we are good and deep and will defend every night. Still need a star wing, but I think we have the making of a good and deep team in the 45-50 win range with plenty of upside from young players and chemistry. Extra future draft assets are great also.

Randle is our most talented but I feel like replacing him with Toppin wouldn’t leave much regression. Replacing Brunson with any other stopgap PG would leave a huge hole on this team as we have seen last year. I do agree about needing to find an elite wing at some point.

I think this sums it up pretty good. Knicks need a high level player that just can get his own. Hardest type of player to get but there it is. Your reference to Toronto pre-Kawhi is spot on.
Brunson is a proven playoff performer (Randle is not) so he's our best player imo.
This team is at it's best when Randle is the 3rd best player on the team behind Brunson and RJ too.
I think Brunson can average 8 assists per game and that would be a top 10 for PGs

Brunson's first playoffs he was a bench player for 8ppg in 7 games and was terrible. He was NOT good. Randle gets more than 5 games before being labeled anything in the playoffs. Brunson surely benefitted

I am not sure what that means? Randle is an established 20/10 2-way guy who at worst is productive (last year) and at best an all star (two years ago). He certainly looks focused on being a high assist guy taking the right shots. He's also beating up guys nicely in the post. I have always thought Randle/Mitch were a spacing problem but they have looked great early and Randle's even gotten Mitch some nice post ups!
I get the Randle hate. You cant be a Knick fan without having some interesting emotional traits (phucks sakes look at Nalod). Randle was wildly disappointing last year after the AS/MIP season. His attitude sucked. I have no excuse but the fact that it stayed internal tells me he had stuff going on (wife post partum? I have no clue, he's human).

Its just utter madness. Randle is an established 2 way guy who's a work horse on both sides of the ball, super physical and has 4 years of 20/10/4 and an AS game. I LOVE Obi. Just go back to when he was drafted and I was streaking down the quad. But he's not anywhere near the NBA player Randle is and if you think subbing in Obi is close to a push I want what your smoking (no seriously I'll take it anyway)
