Knicks · I didn’t want the trade either but the bottom line (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 10/30/2022 9:27 PM
We missed a star player in Mitchell. Probably won’t get same opportunity. No blame here but we bluntly missed
franco12 @ 10/30/2022 9:29 PM
I agree. I didn't want the trade either, but I was wrong. We should have found a package that worked for Aigne. Mitchell, Brunson, Randle would have been an awesome core and with our FO able to find picks later in the draft, we would have been ok.

My simple hope is we just miss the playoffs and win the lottery.

Let's just get over it

Pit your big boy pants on.
Knixkik @ 10/30/2022 9:43 PM
Agree that he’s a great player. But I do think there will be other opportunities.
Philc1 @ 10/30/2022 9:53 PM
We’re better off in the long term

I don't think so. When was the last time a player like Mitchell at age 25 was traded?

This was just such an unusual circumstance. What GM joins a team like Utah and decides to trade his star player?

Alpha1971 @ 10/30/2022 10:37 PM
Knicks made a very fair offer, Utah preferred the Cleveland offer. Move on.

He’s playing at a level above Utah — so he’s capable of doing this. I’m not sure I’d keep garland in unit 1 with him. I like the size of lavert.

Why do we want to just miss the playoffs again? When we can trade Randle / EF, play the yoots and barely miss the playoffs without Randle / EF services.

As long as COY Thibs is our coach, and Randle is on the team, we will continue to barely miss the playoffs 🤦‍♂️

Or

Play the yoots, get s better draft prospect and what do you know, we finally go into an of season understanding what we have and who to pay.

GustavBahler @ 10/31/2022 1:20 AM
Ainge wanted our best young players, as well as impede our ability to rebuild through the draft. With all the unprotected first round picks he wanted in return for Mitchell.

We have the second highest scoring bench in the league. We're an all star in their prime away from contending. Without Mitchell's asking price. That was envelope pushing.

jskinny35 @ 10/31/2022 2:15 AM
Sorry but I strongly disagree. No question he is playing great and much better vs anyone on our roster presently. If the proposed trade was RJ and a #1 pick (or 2) for DM then I could understand regret since DM is clearly the better player. Problem is the trade was too much with picks and players and we would be slightly better but with different roster issues. We'd have no bench and a mismatch of players.

DM running point with two 7 footers and Okoro hiding his defensive deficiencies is very different then playing next to Brunson with little defensive help (outside of Mitch). Then you think of the offense we run with Randle/RJ/Brunson iso and it's a very different team look. Like 4 ball heavy guys taking turns.

So while I agree he is a great player - DM kicking out butts doesn't mean he kicks everyone else's if he on the Knicks with what would have remained on our roster.

jskinny35 @ 10/31/2022 2:18 AM
Right now we are in a similar position to the Nets a season or two before KD and Kyrie decided to join. So while that ship has sailed (relief) - there will be another disgruntled star player that added to our team at the right position - could take us much further then DM would have been able to (due to roster and cost).

I'm not advocating tanking or missing the play offs on purpose - I'm just wishing for a Tim Duncan San Antonio outcome, where we're competitive, but because we're still young and not that good, we just miss the play offs and we exceed our projected draft position for the first time in ever, and pick the transformational talent at #1.

We have a bunch of picks the next several years. Just continue to pick good players. Maybe we hit a home run. The days of 1 player drafts are over. Mitchell was the 13th pick overall contrary to what the media keeps saying we weren’t the only nba team to pass on him

Swishfm3 @ 10/31/2022 7:48 AM
lol...Bunch of clowns in here. This just shows how much basketball people here watch. Mitchell didn't do anything new last night against the Knicks. He has been playing like this since year one.

But we want to cry about RJ and a bunch of protected picks. pfft

Chandler @ 10/31/2022 8:03 AM
Price was too high. Love his alpha attitude but water under the bridge now

I want a rematch where we have grimes and we deny love the ball. Very winnable last night

Also DM and garland can be great but their size will be a vulnerability. We’d have same situation if we got him

Originally Ainge wanted RJ, Grimes, Fournier, IQ and 4 Unprotected picks, 2 protected picks and pick swaps.

The final count was RJ, Grimes, Fournier, IQ 3 unprotected picks and pick swaps.
