Knicks · Fire Thibs (page 16)

To all the basketball SMEs in this forum, how can we increase Obi value to the 8th pick or is that even possible? Would have to clinch a playoff spot and tell Randle to take an injury? 🤷♂️

How does one come to this type of conclusion? What's the buildup? Cause I don't get it
We might not be contenders, but there is enough talent on the team to do that IMO.

This is the third year. Prior to this run, it was looking like the Knicks were going to miss the playin. You can’t miss on Donavan Mitchell and miss on the playoffs and think you are going to survive. It was playoffs or dust for this FO.

I don’t think the FO realized how volatile this roster was, regarding wins and loses. If the FO kept the same defensive culture, we wouldnt have looked so bad last year. Now we are back on track and I’m sure the FO understands what’s needed for thibs to win. Kemba and EF was the wrong direction. Looked good on paper but not thibs type of 2 way players.
The team still has room to improve. Tighten up shots. Work in some plays. Increase court awareness, but this doesn’t feel like the squad that got obliterated by Dallas.
Boston is playing some of the best defense and some of the best eFG style basketball right now. The entire team is 3&D. They are a couple years ahead. GSW isn’t getting it done this year. Whether through injury or infighting. But they never really had the defense, only the eFG to out score you.
I think the Knicks are locking down defense now. To our score other teams they still need to improve their shooting efficiency. Find better shots.
Brunson/Grimes/Barrett/Randle/Robinson is hanging well with other starting squads.
McBride/IQ/Sims/Hart is shortening the game while the first unit recovers.
Lately, Randle and Barrett have been getting to hoop stronger. Thibs says it’s because teams have to body Robinson. He’s right. As they keep looking for Robinson on the oop, they will get more dunks. They also have to look for the kick to 3.
Overall though, this team is really playing well. Finding ways to win.

I agree, that Mitch is creating space for Randle and RJ. Also believe that RJ's footwork has gotten better lately. He's getting better at driving, spinning, and finishing with the other hand. This while being closely defended.
Knicks are paying more attention to the details. RJ, Randle, Grimes, are starting to hit their stride. Brunson was already on point, no pun intended.

It hasnt been consistent. I believe the team has been elevating their game lately. From the coaching staff, to the players. From the Xs and Os, to more inspired, smarter play.

Perhaps there is a path to progress? Maybe some patience helps? I know it's fun to fire and trade everyone and tank and tear it down if it isn't instant. Anyway, fortunately we finally have a front office that didn't cave in to the nonsense. Trusting they will stay the course when the world explodes after a two game losing streak.

Not sure why this is directed to me. You wont find a single post where I advocate firing Thibs during the season. Not one. Or a post where I dont suggest that he should be allowed to finish the season. Then seeing how the season played out.
As far as trading players, still some I want to see traded.

Actually it wasn't directed at you. Just another shotgun rant meant as a response to the topic. Perhaps addressing the concept of consistency, but again, not seeking to single you or anyone out. My bad for not replying to topic instead of big quoting.

We good
Go New York go New York go!
I am not a fan of Thibs but he is doing the majority of things I thought he was messing up on.
Randle looked tired, JB was exhausted. And it was only the first quarter. Plus the matchup zone is the best. Personally my favorite defense on a city league level so I was surprised to see it at the nba level. But I wasn’t shocked at how affective it was on a tired Randle and JB.
Clyde was saying this all game, they keep switching up the defense from zone to man 🤣. But that’s how a matchup zone works. When the ball goes inside where the zone is vulnerable, you guard the main threat tight with single or sometimes double teams like they did JB all night. Ball goes back outside and they back into a normal zone.
IQ was the only knock down shooter they had to worry about. Grimes is the other. Who else on the team are knock down shooters from 3?
Thibs needs to teach these guys how to play zone defense. If a player almost scored 30 in the first half, gotta have a better game plan in the second half to stop him.
