Knicks · Fire Thibs (page 17)
Randle looked tired, JB was exhausted. And it was only the first quarter. Plus the matchup zone is the best. Personally my favorite defense on a city league level so I was surprised to see it at the nba level. But I wasn’t shocked at how affective it was on a tired Randle and JB.
Clyde was saying this all game, they keep switching up the defense from zone to man 🤣. But that’s how a matchup zone works. When the ball goes inside where the zone is vulnerable, you guard the main threat tight with single or sometimes double teams like they did JB all night. Ball goes back outside and they back into a normal zone.
IQ was the only knock down shooter they had to worry about. Grimes is the other. Who else on the team are knock down shooters from 3?
Thibs needs to teach these guys how to play zone defense. If a player almost scored 30 in the first half, gotta have a better game plan in the second half to stop him.

If you want a positive take away the rest of the team was pretty good with Brunson having a shit night. It says alot about what we are doing to be able to almost pull a game like this out when Brunson has a night like he did.
People have to find reasons for losses and every game is winnable if not for coaching. Its not how the sport works. TOs were 16-4 in favor of Toronto. Their best guy put up 50. Our best guy had his worst night of the season. These things balance out over time.
The only that counts is trends, and one of note that continues is our bench isnt giving us enough. As nice as IQ's points were last night we really need from the 2nd unit. Obviously IQ is super hot after some bad shooting early on. McBride is also showing signs of getting more buckets soon so I remain excited about ALL of it, but one area the youth is hurting a bit on the bench is that one. IQ is only bucket getter in the 2nd unit. Part of why RJ plays with that group.

Great points.
JB didn’t have it going
Hard to over come 16-4 TOs
And with that said we still had a chance to win. Lots of positives, I agree.
The negative to me is team defense and that’s on coaching. When a player clearly has it going in the 1st half, we could’ve done a better job in the 2nd half. Maybe we did and I need to look at some replays but I would’ve sent early double teams at him.
But this loss wasn’t that bad when looking at the circumstances.

Worth noting that every quarter was a couple of points apart or tied. Except for second when second unit could not get a stop and Raptors hit everything.
Also, Van had 28pts. We gave up 16 offensive rebounds and has 16 turnovers. That is a lot of extra possessions.

This is why Grimes is important. He would’ve or should’ve been on Van and he definitely would not have scored 28. If Mitch didn’t get hurt they would’ve gotten 3 offensive rebounds in crunch time.
But this just tells us we need redundancy on the bench. Wheres our poor man Grimes and Mitch when these guys are not on the floor. Mitch goes down and now we can’t get key rebounds. Grimes is out and now our guard defense drops.
I’m going to put this on tired legs and see how we look next game.
Whenever I complain about thibs, he makes adjustments. So I’m going to make some tea ☕️ and switch my energy to week 16. It’s fantasy football finals. I’m not a Jets fan so I’m hoping Travis Etienne has a huge game today.

COTY
Now they're 27th and 37th respectively. This rep predates NY, so its a good sign of a coach evolving. Im still in the lets see how this season plays out camp.
I Dont want to see Thibs gone regardless of how the Knicks finish. And dont want to see him kept on, regardless of how the Knicks finish. They're a young team, but with enough vets for the FO to make an informed decision on wether or not Thibs is the best choice going forward.

That rotation and roster change plus 8 game winning streak and he’s buddy buddy with Leon before the Knicks job. It’s their own little mafia family, with JB joining in.
Leon is not cutting off the head before the tail. Especially when the head is the all mighty Thibs. Lots of moves that can and will be done before that last resort. On top of that, regardless of their relationship. 8 game winning streak has bought thibs enough time to be last on the priority cut list. (While under contract)

I think Leon will try to find a star before Thibs contract expires, and go from there. If the season ends poorly, or it looks like coaching played a role. Then the FO should take a hard look at who is avaiable. Dont want to see Brunson's best years in a prolonged rebuild.

None of those guys are the one's I wanted to crack the vault of picks and players open for.

Thibs has to at least make the play in this year. Which he probably will

Why?
We are paying 3 guys like top tier nba players. And we still don’t have a playoff team?
I don’t like this triangle and definitely don’t like thibs with these 3 players. I just don’t have a replacement or a better situation than to ride the ship.
Very fragile roster, coaching staff and FO. It’a like anything can turn us into a tail spin.

You make a lot of nonsensical posts and it’s hard to keep up with how many mistakes you put out there.
Like every part of what you typed is just so out of whack with reality.

You continue to over complicate everything, which creates unnecessary side bars. So let me simplify one issue we clash. That’s the definition of top tier pay. Yes the guys around the league making their pay (RJ, JB, Ju) are not all stars sure. So you would say that’s not top that’s middle. Sure I would agree, because that’s not my main point.
what I should’ve said was their long term value of these contracts. But would I rather have all 3 combined or just pay 2 nba allstars the same total salary. Are we wasting JB prime forcing these 3 together? Same thing as last year. We clearly not making any noise in the playoffs with this roster. So I’m hoping we make a trade.
Forcing a big 3 vs just go for 2 AllStars might be a better approach in the future.
Thibs still looks a little rigid in his in game lack of adjustments. Rotations should’ve changed, too many mins (deuce 46?). Luca should’ve had more early possession blitzes.

I’m not the one making nonsensical statements, that’s on you. You should just start with what you actually mean to say instead of the other stuff.
Knicks didn’t even play 2 of their “top tier” players and should have won, and yet that’s the main focus of whatever point you are trying to make.
They missed 9 FTs. Played a second round pick who still can’t shoot and combined him with a back up PG and both ended up shooting a combined 9-36.
Brunson, RJ, Randle have played less than 40 games together. The long term value of their contracts is actually really good and also has nothing to do with your point but good try on the dodge on that.
You’d rather have 2 all stars on team? Who wouldn’t?
Gold star post.
“Stars” don’t grow on trees except by typing them on the internet.
Great that Deuce and Grimes are getting these minutes. Second year players!

As long as we continue to bench Cam for no real reason that’s all that matters
