Knicks · Fire Thibs (page 75)

One stat that struck me last night was hearing that Indy's rotation is 11 deep. Thats a lot of bodies to throw at a tight rotation.

If we were to lose the series, my guess would be that Leon would make it his mission to give the Knicks one of the best benches in the league. Honestly have no idea what he will do with the starting lineup, if anything.

I think Leon will lose his patience if we dont make the Finals next season because Rose's new aquisitions are gathering dust on the bench.

Sounds like a Thibs problem.

If Rose is keeping Thibs as his head coach, Rose needs to find a 7 man rotation that includes more 2-way players. For example:

Someone like hart who can shoot 3s
Someone like towns who can protect the paint

I think we have the roster to win it all, and we have a coach who can win it all. But I don’t think the roster and coach is a good match, even though they are winning. I think the talent is so good, we can win on talent alone with Thibs adjusting day to day.

Not sure Thibs can adjust quick enough in games right now and maybe that’s part of his learning curve. Can he grow into that type of coach? Yes. Can towns and JB become defensive stoppers? No. I’ve always said it’s a challenge to build a team around two non defenders. And since those two have been picking up fouls lately, their defense will only get worse just to keep the fouls down. That puts added pressure on their offensive efficiency.

Thibs might not survive a sweep, dont think he does. Have to wonder if KAT will survive as well.

Well, I think we're stuck with KAT. His salary number doesn't really work for the majority of teams in the NBA. I don't think Leon fires Thibs, but I'm having a hard time figuring how else they improve internally.

KAT for Durant. Only way to trade him is to swap him for an older guy at that salary. Makes sense for both teams IMO.

I’ve been a big KAT supporter but his head has been in lala land. Not making the smart plays. Taking bad shots.

I fundamentally disagree with this team’s shot selection. The propensity for iso ball to rely on midrange fadeaways is just silly. Bad math.

Pacers are whooping us rightly and they can’t seem to do nothing about it.

Only if there is a sweep Im guessing. Something so bad that it makes Leon nervous. If he believes its not going to get much better in the playoffs with Thibs and his system.

Some posessions it looked like KAT's mind was somewhere else on D. Not that he wasnt fast enough. In the ECF thats hard to explain.

I see it. Curious if the rotation changes had KAT confused. The team looks lost.

You're right. Let's just kill him! Joking. To be honest, I thought this was second round team going in. But I don't know how else this team improves.

Thibs and roster don’t match.
CanItGetAnyWorse @ 5/24/2025 3:46 AM
Thibs will make adjustments… next year. Needs time for the players to gel.

The only coach who keeps starting the same starters who have a net negative rating.

Knicks are $75 million over the cap for next season and $3 million over the first apron. We traded depth for talent over the last several years. Don’t get me wrong I think it was the right decision we probably never get past the first round without that philosophy but it’s a double edged sword because now we have no depth.

The best hope is guys like Kolek and Hukporti continue to develop. Mitch stays healthy relatively at least next year.

Leon hired a defensive coach.
Gave Thibs 2 outstanding offensive players.
Gave Thibs two wing stoppers in OG and Mikal.
Assistant coaches are all well known with experience.

What happens if we had an offensive coach to run a team built around 2 offensive stars? With the same roster, do we go any further? This is a tough hypothetical question.

What offensive guru is available? Mike D’Antoni would be interesting but he’s too old and probably wouldn’t be interested in head coaching again

Maybe the defense suffers? Good hypothetical.
Seems Pacers are executing better than we are.
They are running sets that have KAT confused.
In my mind pacers record second half of the year and this run thru playoffs demonstrates they are the better team. We are not out of this but the question is are the knicks faltering or is Indy just simply better.

How to get better? Easy to suggest new coach(s) or players.
If this team is not communicating on defense well I might surmise they have room to internally get better as well. If there is a deficit in the coaching I'd hope they fix it. Deeper bench? We have some yoot and perhaps one or two might start to earn time in the rotation?

Usually its the aggregate of it all that matters. Thus, not just one thing or not. One might study Pacers who have had their core now in year two and see how good that has come together.

Fans celebrated beating the Celtics and took to the streets. Disappointed? I get it but dancing in the streets celebrating a 2nd round win is all good, but it sets up the current despondent state of disappointment.

So you telling me, with an offensive minded coach, our defense will suffer? Like it’s not suffering with defensive COY Thibs. I’ll take an offensive minded coach that improves the offense and gets the most out of these offensive minded players.

Vs

A defensive minded coach that’s currently struggling on offense and defense.

You have a weird way of saying that we made it past the previous NBA champs and have played 3 tight games in the ECF.

Your expectations are whack man

My expectations? 😂

The entire city would’ve burned down the garden with Thibs in it if we got swept.

I’ve said all season, Thibs is an old dog that learns new tricks like playing the defensive guys Leon rose gave you.

So you now giving Thibs flowers for waiting until we are down 0-2 in the ECF to finally playing his bench? Stop the capping as the young generation would say.

Thibs season and some would say his job was on the line to finally say, “oh wait let’s try this bench thing out”

Good adjustment and hopefully it’s permanent. This is our window to win it all. These opportunities don’t come around often.

I’m sorry but:

#1. We just won an ECF game, which should be the focus.
#2. When did I share my expectations?

This is the first year this entire team was put together. With that said, I’m expecting Thibs to get us out of the 2nd round or put up a fight against the Celtics. My expectations was met going into the ECF game vs Indy. How is that whack? Confused. #PUFFPUFFPASS
