Knicks · 9-man rotation has been a huge factor (page 1)

You can see better rhythm and continuity as the game goes on which lacked before. I think a tighter rotation is a main factor. The 9 man rotation is pretty locked in right now with Sims filling in for Mitch. He’s such a great 3rd string center. Grimes will get his opportunities but is the fill in for any other rotation player outside of a center. Guys slide up or down a position based on who’s out. While depth is good, hope the front office and coaching staff have learned from this and continue to adjust the roster with the idea that a 9-man rotation is the way to go.

I also liked the closing lineup of JB, IQ, Cam, Obi, and Randle. Finally looks like a team that can close out on 3 point shooters. Seems like there's enough of a track record to show that the Randle Robinson frontcourt pairing doesn't work.

BTW, Knicks win comfortably if RJ could have hit an open shot.

Just viewer the game and RJ had a total all around stinker. He must be sick, coach should have sat him down.

The Randle Robinson concern is why I have and will continue to push for Myles Turner. I know he’s not perfect but he provides the same rim protection as mitch but with a completely different skill set that would compliment (open the floor up) for Brunson, Randle and Barrett.

Wait a minute!
I thought we were supposed to fire Thibs for playing too few players!

I think Sims and Cam benefited the most with this 9-man rotation. I dont know how the season will unfold moving forward. When Mitch returns, could another Obi-type dilemma is starting to unravel? I wont be surprised if fans start being vocal about giving Grimes minutes, the player viewed as the main reason the Mitchell trade fell apart.

Im really happy with the emergence of Cam. I hope his play continues. Its nice to see the front office(if you look from the time of Mills or earlier) finally got it right when it comes to low risk high reward moves(mudiay, and to a certain point DSJ). Cam is finally showing up.

Players need consistent playing time to build their confidence. Im wondering how much Deuce can show us if he gets say 10 mins a game consistently, maybe another Obi-type dilemma unfolds. Given the short 9-man rotation, giving Deuce consistent minutes seems wishful thinking at this point.

Asterisks aside, we beat the top team in the West on consecutive nights giving them their first home loss of the season. Thibs needs to ride this rotation until a loss.

Im with you, i want thibs to stick to this 9-man rotation even after a loss. We can see alot of good things with this rotation. This team is fun to watch with this rotation.

In time its would just be nice for players like Sims and Deuce to get consistent playing time, there are teams that are able to play young players and have become a surprise. When mitch returns will thibs split the back up center minutes between hart and Sims or sims will ride the bench once more.

burning guys out with too many minutes.

I'm glad to see Obi and Cam getting decent minutes.

Reddish defense for Evan and players deciding to play defense has been the difference. Randle deciding to focus instead of just jacking up shots has been the difference.
wargames @ 11/17/2022 9:38 PM
I think the idea that Grimes is out the rotation is crap. Especially when Thibs is playing RJ heavy minutes and he has been sick and playing badly.

Having consistency when you can is always a positive. But eventually they will have to figure out a way to get grimes in there without disrupting this 9-man thing.

BigDaddyG @ 11/17/2022 10:03 PM
😏 might need to stick a pin in that 9 man rotation idea.

Jokic injury helped.

Two road wins and RJ sucked. Due to something bugging him? I think if Grimes is whole he plays a lot more.
Lets hope the kid puts it back together and makes one of his ascension growth spurts in the aftermath. Jules is carrying the team for now. Brunson is solid.
Philc1 @ 11/18/2022 6:53 AM
Always liked 9 man rotations. 8 is too small and players get worn out and 10 is too many

We are being told RJ is playing through a sickness. I wouldn’t say Randle is carrying us as Brunson has been the guy who seems to take over when it matters most. Grimes will have to eventually get rotation minutes but it may have to be over Drose eventually. In a rotation of Mitch, Randle, RJ, Cam, and Brunson with Quickley, Grimes, Obi and hart off the bench, it should be a much better defensive and shooting rotation with only Brunson as a small defensive guard. The rest of the rotation has size and length. But rose is playing well enough so it can’t be done yet.

Nalod @ 11/18/2022 8:28 AM
I think Drose finding some rhythm and his legs has been discounted. EF deletion is one thing, but DRose playing better is very important.
Reddish earning Thibs trust to play thru spaz moments.
EF deletion is a factor.
IF RJ sucks and the team wins, does RJ really suck?
Reddish, Brunson, Hart are all integral pieces playing major min and they and rest of team has to get used to them.
Also the “new Jules”. Dude looks like a spiritual cult leader at times out there. Im digging this version of him.
Whats up with RJ? Fans perogative to give up on him. Inconsistant output stains his cred. We often see a big surge of growth after a string of ugly games. Is he sick? Injured? If so Thibs trusts him over EF. His worst two games and two road wins. Thibs must thinnk he is closer to playing thru what ever. RJ is playing like he an allstar having a bad day. Been a few too many I suppose.
Lucky fans need not worry about being decisive about what to do.
